The traffic is going to be terrible. Vehicles will be halted for the motorcade so get to the parks early and stay there. If you leave close to the motorcade, you will be stuck for a while (even on the Disney buses).
I have a feeling that he will NOT be going in through the main gates.
I wonder how WDW was able to convince the secret service that they have adequate security measures in place at the park (keyword being "adequate")?

The Secret Service provide there own security measures. The President goes to places a lot less safe than WDW.

Since they are luring guests to the other parks for the day, is there any chance they will have another Electrical Parade on Friday? It is set to not run starting Friday and if they are luring guests to Epcot and H.S. the least they can do is run the parade for those people that otherwise would not be at the Magic Kingdom Thursday.

Secret Service has been there for at least a week already, maybe two, learning the place and preparing. The bulk of the cost of presidential trips has nothing to do with the president getting on a plane, it all comes from the preparations of the Secret Service for weeks in advance to make the destination the safest place on Earth.

When the President comes to town the secret service takes over. I have a feeling they will be there all night tonight with the cleaning crews checking over different parts of the park to make sure that there is nothing out of the ordinary. That is the reason the main street shops won't be open until after his speech. Once they do their sweeps of an area they need to make sure that area is still secure, so they won't let anyone into it. I would also bet that there will be some agents hanging out on the top of the Main Street buildings tomorrow as well.

Yeah I would think that Main Street is a text book case for securing a location. A single street with front and back access, rooftop access, already good security. Sounds perfect.

I have no problem with the president giving a speech about tourism, but this idea that we need to allow more people from Brazil come to Florida because they love the theme parks like the author of the sentinel article suggests is a little nuts. When I was their in July, every where you looked their were Brazilian Tour Groups...how many more Brazilian tour groups does Disney need. Find a way to reduce the cost of flying so more Americans can afford to come to Disney...the cost to fly from NY to Florida is insane...the cost to fly is a big problem with tourism. I guess it is more important to get more foreign tourists here than actual Americans.

Overseas visitors bring money into the USA, while domestic visitors are just re-cycling money that is already in the country.

NOOOO!!!! Not more brazilians!!!

Yessir. The article specifically points to Brazilians. Crazy.

The speech is about tourism to the USA, so the location is really important.

Disneyland fanboys can't be happy MK was chosen over thier park :p

How about some stimulus for the monorail expansion? :D

LOL

I find this visit and speech a bit curious. Why did they choose WDW? I understand it's one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, but from what I've read Florida/Orlando (Disney, Uni, Seaworld, Legoland, etc) are not really suffering with attendance. The beaches and tourist areas along the gulf coast, however, are still struggling to get the message across that everything is okay and they are open for business.

Yeah, I am sure for the secret service it is a piece of cake. They just need to sweep all the shops and the utilidors underneath.

No such thing as a piece of cake for them. Every location they work and secure, whether its for the President or someone else is treated with the same level of intensity regardless of if it's WDW or Iraq. Failure to do so leads to complacency and a general sense of letting up which leads to a decreased awareness level.

Not saying that it won't get the same scrutiny. However, securing an area like Main Street is probably a bit easier than a park somewhere, or the area around the United Nations when he goes there. The same step are going to be followed, but I would venture to say a controlled and fairly small area like Main Street (or even the entire MK) is easier for them than many other places the President goes.
