That is an excellent point. I'll admit I didn't really check the timelines and instead just started putting pieces I've seen mentioned together for that suggestion haha.

We could easily make Lafitte just one of many who have used the outpost over the years instead of the founder. Or change the founding story
It could almost be like a hub with different people who have visited the outpost?

I mean, I have no issues with changing the founding story. We could very easily move the founding to post revolution and nothing would change.

  • Frog to Pirates
    • Jean Lafitte - Thematic/Story
    • Tia Dalma Shack - Visual
  • Frog to Frontier
    • Louisiana Purchase - Thematic/story
    • Moved Riverboat - Visual
    • Lewis and Clark (or original characters inspired by them) - Thematic/story
    • La Porte (Smugglers outpost turned gateway to the west) - Visual/thematic/story
These are all the ideas that I think we’ve thrown out (thanks Pi!). From those, I see three story options. I think everybody vote for their favorite idea and we’ll see where we are.
1. Jean Lafitte
2. Louisiana Purchase/Lewis and Clark or original characters
3. La Porte (smugglers outpost turned gateway to the west)

I'd put in my vote for La Porte. I like the idea of a smuggler's outpost that gradually became an entryway for the West. There's room for some fun personality with that set-up, and it makes for a solid transition path whether you're coming over from Liberty Square or passing by Pirates of the Caribbean.

La Porte definitely has my vote. Especially since it is easy to incorporate elements from the other two is we want too. Its a good story set up/setting without being too narrow or limiting.

So that’s 5 out of 6 votes for La Porte, so I’m going to go ahead and say that we’re going with this. Trying to think of jobs, let me know if I’ve left something off. If you want a specific job or want more clarity or modifications on jobs, just let me know!
  • Story development
  • Character development
  • Frog Mountain development (within the context of the rules)
  • Land development- basically taking the story and translating it into the physical park space... this may be a two person job-one for transitions, one for the actual Splash Zone area
  • Concept Art if the people working on Frog Mountain and Land Development focus more on text
  • Presentation potentially. We’ve done a lot of forum posts, and I think we could try something slightly different for a presentation this time if anybody has any ideas. I don’t have anything against doing a forum post, just thought it’d be cool to explore other options.

Gonna quickly try to give insight into the area we are working with (coupled with some notes of things discussed so far)

So, if we count from the archway that divides the edge of Caribbean Plaza up to the Train Station and don't go to the right at all beyond MAYBE using the wooden boardwalk type thing for a Riverboat dock if we did want to do that. Which I think would help with sightlines, but thematically it might not work. Plus, if we don't touch that boardwalk, that gives a path that connects the two parts of Frontierland without fully entering the Bayou.

That leave us: (Things on the path to Pirates are italicized)

  • Overflow dining areas for Pecos/Tortuga (could be made into Tiana's Place if we build out into the pathway)
  • The Pirate Interactive Game starting point (basically a tiny, one room building like a Food and Wine Booth, easily moved or rebuilt or rethemed, perhaps to Tia Dalma's Shack to keep it fully PotC even though it isn't actually in Caribbean Plaza or possibly Jean Laffite)
  • The food booth that currently sells waffle fries (small and easily moved since it is basically a more permanent food and wine booth. presumably this will be a walk up way for some New Orleans food)
  • The Briar Patch Gift Shop (Not at the exit to the ride. Usually pretty empty. Biggest benefit is being a quiet, air conditioned spot. Possibly a Clewis and Lark cabin?)
  • Frog Mountain
  • The Splash Mountain themed playground under the train station on the path to Frog Mountain entrance (real tiny toddler play area, could be made into a small meet and greet maybe?
  • The Train Station (Not sure how much we want to change it, but Splash's entrance and exit do go directly under the train station and past the entrance)
  • Frog Mountain exit gift shop
  • Frog Mountain exit bathrooms (Not sure how detailed we wanna go lol)
  • That small space by the exit of Splash that usually is unofficial stroller parking or a Brer Rabbit meet and greet (could be used for a small live jazz band? or a meet and greet?)

I think those are all the elements we have available to work with in the area around Splash. Unless I'm missing anything

I would personally be more interested in Land Development. I can try to do some concept art too (especially tied to what I'm writing up), but I don't want to promise to be a concept artist.

What would be called for with character development? I might be up for that, but I was wondering what that would call for?

I think the big question is if we want streetmosphere. Personally, I think that it's unnecessary for such a small area, but if you guys really want to I'm not going to fight.

Also, since I forgot to post early, my second draft for the story was that La Porte was established by Lafitte in the 1810s as a smuggling settlement (in real life, he actually did this off of the Gulf Coast.) Everything subsequent happens as I wrote it yesterday, except the treasure is now Lafitte's. If we really want to extend to Caribbean Plaza, we could make the building for the current pirate game into the starting point for the Lafitte treasure hunt. I'd still advise against building Tiana's Place over part of Pecos Bill's, but I'm not going to fight you guys if you really want to do it. I feel like having the outdoor portion of this transitional corridor themed to Lafitte/ bayou transition could work well to transition from Pirates to bayou. And Pecos Bill's could act as a sort of thematic segway from Texas to Louisiana.

In terms of moving the Liberty Belle to the bridge on RoA, my initial thought was to place it over the Tom Swayer dock and reopen the third dock to the island so as to not change wait times, but that bridge should work fine as well. My only worry would be congestion.

In my mind, it sort of goes along with the story development... more background characters to learn about and stuff like that. If jokers has the whole story covered though, it may be unnecessary

So my notifications were off (I guess I never actually watched the thread) and was a bit worried that nobody posted yesterday, but I was out and about so never got around to actually popping in to check.

Anyway, yeah, La Porte is great and I’ll give it an (unneeded but still) unanimous vote.

What parts have not been claimed. I’d like to take some writing just since I don’t have much time for art currently as today I’m busy and thurs/fri I work
