Nope, Not Ready For Kids - An October 2011 Trip Report

Welcome to my trip report. This trip was planned as a sort of last minute excursion to WDW, although my mom and I had discussed the possibility of this trip for awhile it just never came about until what seemed like last minute. Our dates were October 15 - 21, staying at Pop Century. We chose these dates because this was the time that the school district that I work for took Fall Break. Leading up to the trip these dates made me nervous that the parks would be crowded considering the possibility that other schools would also be on break. We had a glimmer of hope when we were able to get most of the ADRs that we wanted; however, that would be short lived.

Now for your cast of characters:
Me - Rachel, 25, have been going to WDW since I was less than a year old. I work at a high school. My official title is Reading Assistant, but I pretty much do whatever they need me to do. I am certified to teach History and Language Arts. I received my Master’s in the Art of Teaching in July, and as a graduation present, my parents got me a Nikon D5100. I am still very much learning how to use it.

My mom - Disneybird, older than me, has been going to WDW since around the time it opened. She is responsible for not only my love of Disney but for planning all of my trips as well, thus far. After all of these years she still looks forward to trips to WDW as much as I do.

My grandmother - 81 and cruises around in a scooter while in WDW (which will be quite an ordeal throughout the trip). She finds any and every excuse to head to WDW for a quick getaway and will pay for just about anyone to go if they will take her.

My nephew - Victor, 4 ½, and he is very proud of that ½. This is technically his 3rd trip to WDW. He went for the first time in January 2010. That trip included a lot of our family. Plus it was my husband’s first trip to WDW, as well. You can read about it HERE. He went to the Magic Kingdom with my parents for a few hours in April, also. He is a lot of fun to be around, but we (my mom and I ) tried a lot during this trip to bring out the adventurous little boy inside of him during this trip. He is just a bit too cautious and practical for his age (parents fault).

My sister - Amanda, Victor’s mother, 33. She has gone to Disney quite a bit, as well. However, her trips have become farther between. She had a few vacation days that she needed to take before the end of the year, so she decided to join us for a few days and before flying back into Chattanooga.

For those of you who did not see my trip report, my husband and I were doing the Insanity workout system before I left on my trip. I told him that I would do the program as long as I could eat whatever I wanted to on the trip. I know that he was worried that I would just throw all of my hard work away over this week, but I reassured him that I would not go overboard on eating and would walk a significant amount during the trip. So, determined to prove my ability to maintain what I accomplished, I weighed myself the morning I left, took a pedometer, tracked the amount of steps we took, and weighed myself the morning after we returned.

So, there we all are. Now on with the show!

I agree! Those name pictures are amazing! Love the idea. May have to steal that for a present for the hubby!

Love your train station pictures too. That is one place that I have neglected to take pics in and it is a really cool spot.

Love all of your report. It was totally amazing. I especially loved the presents for your nieces. They are gorgeous. You have amazing talent.
If I had to choose one picture, it would be the one you took at PPF. The "boats" look so beautiful. I have never seen them from that level and its my FIL's favorite ride and he is 83. LOL

^^ Those look incredible!

Thanks so much!

This is great - it's actually so much fun to golf at Disney, they're really good to you! They've usually got deals on, too - play two courses for 1. I know Dad's playing all four Disney courses when he goes up in March - and we played LBV and Osprey Ridge (fav!) in 2009. Which course will you go with for times? They're all gorgeous =)

PS: I'm DOING THAT with the pictures.. they're amazing, I'm SO jealous that I'm not going back sooner. They're beautiful!

I'm not sure which course he wants to play yet. We haven't sat down to look at them yet. Knowing him he will want to go big or go home, but I will keep Osprey Ridge in mind as a fav of yours.

I had A LOT of fun going around taking those pictures. And thanks!

Thank you! I need to get some more pictures because I plan on doing one for my house, too!

The train station had a lot of really neat details spread throughout. I had just never taken the time to really explore it. Plus, I had the whole room to myself for a good 10 minutes, which was fun.

Thank you so much! They turned out better than I ever could have imagined.

That is really funny about your FIL. My grandfather's favorite ride has always been IASW. I will never understand that!

Love those pics you did! Such a good idea and very original! :)

I'll be back in April/May as well. When in May are you going?

Thank you!

We are actually checking in on May 6th. As soon as my husband receives his diploma we are getting in the car to head to Florida. Have you been to Disney at this time before? I'm hoping that the crowds will be light and the weather great!

Thanks everyone for the kind words on the presents. I was very happy with them, and I had a lot of fun doing it. I plan on getting more during my next trip. Jordan has a great eye, so I am looking forward to having his help!

I remember Magnolia being awesome but so, so long - but I was also 13 and pretty terrible at golf compared to what I am now. But you can't beat Mickey sand traps - definitely the "Disney golf" experience.

I actually fell asleep trying to figure out what would look like a "K", and then deciding that I'm making one of those for Carly's bday/Christmas next time I go. Subtle but awesomeeee.

In '09 when I went with the girls we went the week before (May 1-5) - the weather was amazing, pretty hot, and there were hardly any crowds. The TR is in my sig, even to get an idea of the wait times. We usually took a break in the afternoon because we were so sweaty and worn out because of the humidity (coming from barely-spring, we weren't used to the weather at all!). I'd definitely go back at that time of year.

As we sat on the train in Frontierland waiting to load, I looked on the ground to my left and a snake was on one of the railroad ties.

So long as Jordan never joins WDWMagic, I'm safe!

Besides, for the most part I'm harmless... :lookaroun

I don't know...he tried to kid nap me when I met him. Told me they had LOTS of bacon in Canada and I ALMOST went willingly.

We can handle the heat. The weather isn't too different where we live. It will definitely be better than during Jordan's first and last trip when Florida was experiencing record low temps. There really is nothing like going through Disney in a coat. I'm glad to hear that there were hardly any crowds. We will be utilizing the awesome pool at the Beach Club, so I want to make sure that we have plenty of time to do whatever we want in the park to have good pool time in the afternoons.

The framed photos you made for your nieces are amazing!

Thanks so much!

I completely forgot about that!

He promised me expensive liquor when I met him.

Whoop Whoop another Rachel on the boards :sohappy: (We share the same name haha!) This trip report was SOO cuute! :) Victor is adorable! Your such a fun aunt it sounds like you guys had a great time! That's funny how your sister did not approve of him trying to drink chocolate with his Mickey straw, I probably would've tried the same thing :ROFLOL:

she is always trying to get him to do the "cute" things his parents might frown on. I think it comes with being an aunt.

Glad to see another Rachel, too! If she wasn't there I think it would have happened.

It's true, but I'll probably eat all of the things that I've taught him over the years when I have my own.
