As others have said, there are ways for an AP-holder to get Free Dining.

If you don't have an active AP when Free Dining is available, you can upgrade the Free Dining package's MYW ticket into an AP. That's exactly what I'm doing next month.

If you already have an AP, you can book the Free Dining package with a Base 1-day MYW ticket. Don't use the ticket during your trip, use your AP for your admission. Then apply that 1-day ticket toward your next AP renewal. Yes, you're paying for something up-front that you won't be using during right away, but you get the money back at your renewal.

If you're interested in trying out the Free Dining next year (if it's offered), you should consider one of these options.

I think I read one of your ealier posts that mentioned something to this nature. I will definitely try that in 2011 if the loop hole hasn't been closed. This weekend will mark my last trip to WDW (my pass expires Sunday) until the 40th Anniversary Celebration. Instead of renewing our passes this year we're going to be taking a trip (our first) out to DL in Dec 09!!!!

But I was really just being smart about the fillet thing and those who want great food for free! Heaven forbid they don't get their free fillet!

Btw, the fillet mignon at Le Cellier with it's Sweet Potato Puree was simply the best!!!! =)

I think it is more of the principle involved that is irritating people. They are using free dining to lure more people to the property, but then after everyone buys into it, they change the menu. It's no different than a store offering 20% off all its merchandise AFTER they raised the prices 30%. It's misleading.

That said, it's a theme park people! Surely you can get better food closer to where you live. I know I can.

As has been pointed out, the menu changes pre-date free dining. The two don't appear related.

I book all my ADRs 180 days ahead, but I have no expectation that the menus are going to remain static in the interim, there's nothing "misleading" or innappropriate in Disney restaurants adding or removing items from their menus.

I, too, am not a huge fillet fan---while tender, they can be rather flavorless (which is why most WDW versions are sauced to within an inch of their lives.)

When I eat beef, I like to taste beef.

Stop blaming Free Dining for the reason Disney has decided to cut back service. The next thing I'll hear is Free Dining is to blame for Fantasmic being cut to once a day or the reason there is only one refillable mug design. :lookaroun

Prime Rib???

Bring on the Baby Back Ribs, Buffalo Wings, and Prime Rib.
Who needs a filet.

:)
We just got back from 9 days in Disney, and I hate to break this to my fellow Prime Rib lovers..but, Crystal Palace, and Cape May Cafe will no longer be serving Prime Rib:cry:. Disney has replaced it with "Beef Top Sirloin":hurl:...or what I will call glorified roast beef...it's just not the same. CP was always our traditional last meal before we would head back home..might have to change to Boma for the final night...their still serving it there...sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Maybe you should complain to Disney for offering free dining and not to those who are smart enough to take advantage of it.

They are not getting rid of all steak, just the filet. There are plenty of other cuts to choose from.

Just wanted to add
today, August 13th, is National Filet Mignon Day!

Would anyone be able to confirm (as I'm a bit confused) whether the removal is only during the Free Dining? or is it a permanent change?

I'm kinda....well, real disappointed if it's for good. I had filet at France, the Yachtsman and in Canada and I thought they were all wonderful. We will be there over Thanksgiving and my DD was so looking forward to one in France (her restaurant of choice)! Any more info is greatly appreciated

(just between us though....she REALLy wants to go there because of the waiters.....we had a real cute one during our last visit....) shhhhhh

Has anyone gone grocery shopping lately?

Last week filet was $19.99 a pound. This is uncooked, without a baked potato or salad.

Prices for everything are sky high.

Some people blame ethanol production for driving up the price of corn that used to feed cattle and chickens.

We were out to eat lately and the menu said that there was a 10% surcharge on all steaks due to higher prices.

This is not to try to explain or excuse menu changes, but you cannot discuss it or complain about it without the acknowledging that beef prices may be the real culprit.

Ok, silly question here (please forgive me, this is my first time doing the dining plan....)

On the menus, do they have a certain section of the menu that dining plan users have to order off of, or can they choose anything on the menu? We're going in September, and I'm not sure how it works.

Does anyone know if this change will affect Cali Grill? I looked at the menus that Steve had links too, and I still saw filet of beef on there, so I hope it will be there when we go. I would totally be willing to pay extra for it if needed! The oak fired filet with BBQ was AMAZING!

Thanks for your help!
