The first ad was better. I know this was made for a Japanese audience but surely even the Japanese would prefer to listen to the nostalgic sounds of the Mario games over some cringeworthy pop music.

As for the land, it will certainly be aesthetically busy and I'm anticipating quite a bit of kinetic movement. On the other hand, construction footage shows quite a few static props that I worry will look jarring next to the moving ones. On the whole the theming looks a bit cheap and plastic-y due to the nature of the IP, but the kinetics may help quite a bit.
My guess is your not very familiar with EDM. It's not "Pop Music". It's the counter culture music for today's teens and young adults. There are a few cross-over artists like Marshmello, but on Pop Radio, you're not going to here Galantis ft. Charli XCX squeezed in between Taylor Swift and Lizzo. And these aren't Japanese artists. Galantis is a duo from Sweden and Charli XCX is English.

It was a very smart move. This release hit every music site out there, from Rolling Stone and Billboard to NME and Pitchfork. And of course, it blew up all the gamer sites.

I have been saying for years that I wished Universal would start bringing in EDM artists for Mardi Gras and their now defunct summer concert series. Universal fanbois kept telling me it would never happen. And guess what? Marshmello will be coming to Mardi Gras this year. And now this music video. The bad thing is, this is kind of proof that EDM is leaking into the main stream. And you know what it means when that happens. Time for a new type of counter culture music.

Maybe the new counter culture music can go back to actual instruments.

I’m 26 but yeah I’m old school.

Off Topic: I know this is a bit of an unpopular opinion, now that Nintendo annoyed people with how (and still are to some extant) handled their back catalog, but I still think SMB1 and SMB3 are still good games. Honestly SMB3 is my 2nd favorite 2D Mario game behind SMW2 YI (If we're counting that as a mainline 2d Mario game). I like SMW and SMB3 about the same, but the powerup selection and the level design being slightly better in general in SMB3 wins me over. Original SMB is still good, but has aged in some areas, especially with the reused stages, maze levels and Mario not as controlling as well as he does in any of the sequels.
My list 2D Mario from best to worst
1. SMW2 YI
2. SMB3
3. SMW
4. NSMB DS
5. SMB
6. SMB: TLL
7. SMB2
Can't remember anything from the "New" series past DS, so I just put that one on there.

I'm hoping for an eventual All Stars remake with Yoshi's Island added in plus a few bonuses with all games receiving hand drawn 2D art.
I’ve never understood the appeal of 2D Mario games. They are all super bland and super boring. If I’m going to play a 2D platformer, it’s going to be the Donkey Kong Country games (which are getting a land), the UbiArt Rayman Games, or, as you said, Yoshi’s Island.

As far as I’m concerned, the 3D platformers and the RPGs are the Crown Jewels of the Mario series.

No I honestly don't know very much about Japanese culture, nor do I have much interest to be frank. But I also believe there is a degree of universal culture in the world (pun not intended). And even in Japan I'm thinking the audio from the ad below beats the pants off the newly released video.

Well, it is music from Super Mario Galaxy, the greatest game of all time (which stupidly has zero representation in the land), so it obviously beats the pants off of the pop music.

Heck, Marshmello even collaborated with Disney two years ago. Marshmello made a special music video featuring Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby (Ducktales 2017 incarnations).

Haha, I did not know that. I love it!

I am the only 56 year old hillbilly that I know that likes EDM. It's not my favorite genre of music, that would be Jambands, but it's probably my 2nd favorite at this point. I can't do Classic Rock anymore. Even the bands I have been a fan of for 40 years. I never listen to them anymore. Been there, done that. So as far as new music goes, EDM is more interesting to me than most everything else coming out these days.

Looking good, but where will the people go?

This land looks to make Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley's public spaces look spacious.

It has multiple levels so we’ll only really know once it’s open. Plus Japan won’t be opening with the Donkey Kong area which adds more space.
