NFL Playoffs Competition

Yea, I really liked both the Colts and the Steelers, so to me it didn't matter who won. I wanted the Colts to win for Tony Dungy, and The Steelers for the "Bus" any my cousin who is a die-hard fan.
SO........now it's all Steelers for me! GO STEELERS!
(I always root for them unless they are playing my team - Eagles) :p

I think the Panthers and Seahawks are pretty evenly matched. We'll see what happens. I just hope the Steelers don't fall apart in the change in altitude the way that the Pats did. (Although I was thrilled that the pats lost, being that i'm an eagles fan who is still bitter. ha ha)

If Pittsburgh wins, this contest will effectively have shut itself down.

Right you are, basically. The Colts and Bears both losing took a lot of people's entries down the toilet. Anyways, here are the official standings.

Standings after the Divisional games:

1. Iakona (6.5)
2. Wilt Dasney (5.5)
3. HauntedPirate (4)
3. SpongeScott (4)
5. dxwwf3 (3.5)
6. Number_6 (2.5)
7. bsandersjr (1.5)
8. MKCP 1985 (1)

The only people still alive for advancement are Scott and HauntedPirate. If the Seahawks win next weekend, they'll both tie for first place, regardless of the Super Bowl outcome. If the Panthers win, Iakona will finish first.

perhaps after next week we can have a Super Bowl contest and wipe the slate clean.

Sounds good to me. Maybe have everybody pick winner and final score...any other suggestions?

And since I applied the kiss of death to the Redskins last week by publicly declaring my presence on their bandwagon, I'll do the same to the Steelers this week. After watching Cowher and Bettis plug away and come up short so many times, it would be great to see them finally break through.

Great defined: a kick in the (stomach). Yes, it would be great!

just kidding. They deserved that win, yesterday. The official's call on the interception being an incomplete pass was worse than the "tuck rule" in New England a few years back, and that's saying alot.

I got a point? :sohappy: The way this thing has played out, I thought I'd possibly been shut out!

You sound like a longtime Jaguars fan who still considers them a divisional rival.

I remember those 2 played some doozies back when they were both in the Central, and they were both in the playoffs just about every year.

I am so guilty of that. The avatar gave me away?

I don't have any problem with the Steelers. Going on the road and wining at Cincy and at Indy means they have earned their right to be where they are. Can they do it 3 times? I'm not betting against them. (or for them, either!)

I hope AKL Concierge was better than the Patriots were last nite! I personally got some enjoyment out of the look on Tom Brady's face at the end of the game. :p

OK, since I have decided to check in from AKL tonight let me respond:
Yes, AKL Concierge was much better than my Pats, but I still wore my Pats shirts the after the game. Pat's Pride lives!

That being said, I'll take Tom Brady and 2 Super Bowl MVPs over Payton's meaningless MVPS any day.

We have a lot of work to do in the offseason, including adjusting some of the whining I saw early in the game from New England. I have confidence that adjustments will be made and we will be BACK.

As for the tuck rule (people love to cite that) everyone ignores the fact that the officials called that AGAINST the Pats earlier that year. By the way, I don't believe it has been changed.

By the way, I have heard plenty of fans here in WDW whining about the pass interference on Assante Samuel and the ball not returning to NE after the Ben Watson hit. Fact is the Pats turned the ball over and Denver scored. End of story. End of game. Denver deserved to win, we didn't; they were the better team.

Tomorrow we lunch with an Imagineer and get ready for our Disney cruise, but one last comment:

GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, here are the final standings for the original competition. The Seahawks' win today means that Scott and HP tie as the least bad prognosticaters among us. :D No one had Seattle or Pittsburgh winning the Super Bowl, so these standings are final:

1. HauntedPirate (7.5)
1. SpongeScott (7.5)
3. Iakona (6.5)
4. Wilt Dasney (5.5)
5. dxwwf3 (3.5)
6. Number_6 (2.5)
7. bsandersjr (1.5)
8. MKCP 1985 (1)

And...since the first competition is over, I like the idea of a new one for the Super Bowl. Here's what I propose: Everybody picks the winner of the game AND the cumulative final score (total number of points scored by both teams).

The rub is that any single combination of winner and points can only be entered ONCE, so getting in early pays. For example, if I think Pittsburgh wins 6-3, then I could enter Steelers + 9 ONLY if no one else has entered that combination. If that combination is taken, I might say Pittsburgh wins 7-3, and enter Steelers + 10 instead. The person who picks the winner and comes closest to picking the total score WITHOUT GOING OVER will be the winner.

I'll try to keep an eye on entries and let anyone know if they've duplicated a previous pick. Also, since earlier entries can affect later ones, I'm asking that there be no editing of picks at any time. Once you enter it, stick with it.

My pick: Steelers + 41

Also...this should go without saying, but the Super Bowl contest is open to anyone, not just people who participated in the first contest.

What does it say about the competitive gulf between the two conferences that the early line has the AFC's #6 seed over the NFC's #1 seed by 3 1/2?

If the 1 beats the 6, it will probably be considered a minor upset. Found that interesting...

I do believe that the AFC overall is a stronger conference right now, but Seattle ain't getting any respect. That is a stunning line right now.
