Newfiefan's long overdue Sept. TR!

Hello again, I'm back at the TR writing! My computer crashed in the fall and my vacation pictures have been held hostage ever since. I have a new laptop and I've been able to retrieve my pictures! Thank goodness!

For any of you out there who has been following the drama that is my life, things have returned to semi-normal around here. My father had a horrible accident last year and I'm happy to report that he is on the mend. He may need one more surgery this summer but he's pretty much back to normal. For those of you that don't know, the accident happened on my new home construction site. It all went down as I was writing my March TR from last year. You can check it out if you're interested but the TR never did get finished. *embarrassed* http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=564342&highlight=newfiefan's With all that was going on in my life at the time, the TR writing went on the back burner.

We haved now moved into our beautiful new home and Uncle Matt (as you all know him) is now a married man! It's been quite the year for us!

This Sept. trip couldn't have come at a worse or a better time... depending on how you looked at it. We were right in the middle of new home construction and my brother (aka Uncle Matt) threw a surprise wedding at us. The wedding was scheduled to take place the week after we returned home from WDW!!! Uncle Matt had originally planned to come on this trip with us but that all changed with the wedding plans. So, for the first time since 2007 (our first trip as a family) we were once again taking a trip by ourselves (just the 4 of us). I was disappointed Matt wasn't coming with us, as we have so much fun with him on vacation, but I was looking forward to just our family getting away together. And what a trip it was! It was just what the doctor ordered... we left the maddness behind and headed for 12 nights at the most magical place on earth...

Day 1

We took the usual flight from St. John's, NL, switched planes in Toronto and landed in sunny Orlando just after 1pm local time. An uneventful flight and journery for the most part. We did however have a hard time locating our luggage but we tracked it down and we were on our way to DME.

Silly kids waiting on a bus...
scaxxw.jpg

This was our first time staying at CBR and we fell in love with the place. We were located in Jamaica and it was quite the convenient "island". The bus stop was next door and we were usually the first ones picked up depending on the route. And Old Port Royale was a short walk across Caribbean Cay!

The kids loved the Nemo theming!

The mandatory room number shot...

We headed straight for Epcot (somewhat of a tradition for us) and looked for some food for our very hungry stomachs.

Always have to stop for the first PhotoPass pic of the trip!

We found some yummy food in here...

And got a bonus ride on Soarin' - it was walk on! (Don't you love Sept.!?!)
1y7thg.jpg

It's funny how attracted kids are to spraying water...
2gy0wme.jpg

We made our way into World Showcase and the kids wanted to ride "Donald's Mexico Boat Ride" (as they like to call it)...
2lxwayg.jpg

We poked around a little inside and then headed back out into WS. It's interesting how our touring has evolved our the course of our WDW trips. We had no real plan, just wandering, stopping when we wanted to see something or take a pic, etc. That and the fact it was just our family and we didn't feel the need to cater to anyone else... it was nice!

China...

What a great report! I'm enjoying every minute of it. As always, your children are gorgeous--and they've gotten so big! Congrats to the newlywedded, and on your dad's recovery.

Your son is the most perfect Peter Pan, he really looks the part. And his sister is a beautiful Tink (and the ladybug is cute, too--what, no costume for dad?) Speaking of dad, my husband has the very same Iron Man tshirt that your hubby is wearing at DTD/Lego. Is his tissue-thin, too? I'm afraid to put it in the dryer. And while I'm on the topic, I have the matching dress to your children's "hawaiian Disney" print clothing!

Love all your character photos! I'm think I'm going to concentrate on characters on our upcoming trip, in addition to our other concentration--eating! Look at all the cool new stuff you got to do by taking it easy, especially the Tink movie, what a great experience for your whole family!

Looking forward to the rest!

Thanks for the kind comments!

Yeah, my husband didn't wear a costume... I think he thought that it was only kids that dressed up but he's changed his mind on that now! He's already looking for a costume if we attend a party in the fall!

I've thrown that shirt in the dryer quite a few times and it's fine. I throw almost everything in the dryer!

You have the matching dress!?! How cool! I bought that clothes at least a couple of years ago on clearance and the kids are still wearing it (I did buy it big at the time).

Day 10 continued...

As soon as we entered we were given a free krispie treat each...
2e2p8g1.jpg

And I took one pic of the stage b/c we were asked to put our cameras away...
30dkltc.jpg

The event was a little interesting, they said the word "Duffy" about a million times... but the highlight of the event was when they brought out Duffy the character and paraded him around the room. There was actually someone there who came all the way from Japan to attend this event... these people are hardcore! Duffy stopped to hug the lady from Japan! My kids actually enjoyed the event and couldn't wait to get their hands on a Duffy of their own. Well, they were in luck b/c they offered us a chance to pre-purchase Duffy and his sailor outfit. It was marketing genius! People bought these up like they were going out of style (myself included)!

Who likes Duffy???
14j12zc.jpg

It was time for lunch and we wanted to try out the new La Hacienda Cantina (I believe this was it's first or second day in operation). The seating outside was full (which I was dissappointed about) but they had people stationed at the doors to let guests know that they could dine inside as well. I reluctantly went inside and sat down. It was beautiful in there and what a view from the windows!

Don't you love these light fixtures (I want some in my house)!?!
213j4ao.jpg

The view from the windows is just amazing!
2i3rlk.jpg

Then my children wanted to do exactly what they were told to do at the AP event... take Duffy around the "World"! Who says people won't get Duffy???

Hi,

It is always great to look at one of your fine TR's. Glad to hear your dad is well. I wonder if your girls sickness is heat related. We have looked at an late August trip before school reopens, but I am concerned that DS #1 will just wilt. I can imagine him being sick down there that time of the year.

Thanks!

You know, she did have a head cold (which I'm sure is picked up in the airports, airplanes, and the million other places their little hands touch) but the heat doesn't help! I think the slight fever mixed with the temp outside is what really makes her feel miserable!

We went in late Aug. back in '09 and next to Sept. I think it's a great time to go. The crowds are significantly lower than the summer crowds. It's still hot but there's so many places to go to get out of the heat. And like I mentioned before, if the crowds are lower and you can tour the parks faster than you don't mind taking the breaks to get out of the heat!

Loving your TR , my BF and I were there last Sept 8-15th !! We attended 'Fantasmic' on the Sunday (12th) there was alightning storm in the distance but the show continued, but not long after the 1st show the heavens opened, so I think the second show was probably cancelled. We also went to MNSSHP on the Tue (14th) this was our last night at WDW so it was filled with mixed emotions. I love your photopass pics, I never realised there were so many variations!

I do, and I bought the matching shirt for my husband, too, when I found them in the clearance section. We've never worn them together, though!

I just booked one of the 2012 Disney Cruises to Canada from NY, so I'll get to see St. John! Really looking forward to it, it will be my first visit to Canada (and my first Disney cruise).

I had a bunch more comments saved up in my head but then you dazzled me with Duffy and it all vanished! I loooove my Duffy(s)! Each one is special, not just because it's Duffy or Disney. Ugh! And speaking of Duffy...I knocked the dust off my sewing table this week and fired up the machine. I sooooo wanna make each of your kids an outfit for their Duffy. What's their favorite colors??? Oh I need to PM ya or email or something. I just had a brilliant idea pop in my head that I think will totally rock! Oh! And I gotta tell ya all about the new "thing" I've been working all day designing. (((squeals))) :sohappy:

It's so funny because early in the TR I was thinking: "Why aren't the kids carrying their Duffy's? Maybe they didn't stay interested." DUH! That was BEFORE they had 'em! :hammer::lol:

And I totally hafta publicly say....

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

....for gifting me my first ever Duffy!!! I wanted him so so soooooo bad for such a long time...ever since I read about Duffy & Shellie Mae at TDR. That was so oober sweet of you and your family to do for me. Y'all are the BEST!!!

Are y'all considering another trip in the fall??? Remember, we'll be at POFQ 9/12-9/15 and Yacht Club 9/18-9/24. I would just looooove it if y'all were there! :sohappy:

I was wondering about Fantasmic that night... I had no idea there was two shows though! The party was so much fun, too bad it was your last night!
Once I make the decision to buy the PhotoPass CD I try to get all the pictures I can at the parks (and of course I play around with the boarders on the website).
Thanks!

St. John's, Newfoundland? Awesome! I hope you have good weather when you come here... St. John's is beautiful if the weather is nice. If you're interested in what the city looks like when the sun is shining watch this video. This is actually footage from a TV show that is filmed here in St. John's, NL - Republic of Doyle (good show, btw)!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=wOmp_r0WWhs#at=10

Edit - nevermind! I just checked the Disney Cruise website and you're going to Saint John, NB not St. John's, NL! Two different cities, two different provinces! Boooo, Disney should bring their ship in St. John's harbour... all the cool cruise ships are doing it!!!
I was surprised I hadn't heard anything about it. Something like that would be on the news here! lol

Loving the trip report so far! Looks like you guys had a blast!!! And like everyone else has said, your children are so adorable!!! :animwink:

Thanks so much!

So embarrassed...I didn't even know there were two towns so closely named, I thought I was going to be in your backyard!!

For some reason, Disney doesn't seem to be talking up the new cruise locations, I haven't seen any advertising locally at all, if I hadn't come here to WDWMagic and found the Cruise forum (and Tammy from Kingdom Konsultants!) I might not even have booked it!

I am excited to get to see Canada, every time I go to Oh, Canada at Epcot, I think wow, what a beautiful country, and right next door, we need to go there, and I believe I am only a 5-hour drive from Montreal...but we always wind up going back to WDW instead of anywhere else!! :D

Don't worry about it! At least you know where Canada is (no offense to Americans) but you wouldn't believe how often I have to explain where our country is and how big it is.

Saint John (with the "Saint" spelled out) is in New Brunswick and St. John's (with "St." and the "s" at the end) is the capital city of Newfoundland and Labrador and the oldest city in North America (did you know that?). And did you know, the first wireless signal was sent across the ocean to Europe from Signal Hill in St. John's!?! You can see Signal Hill a few times in the video I posted. A very popular tourist attraction in the city!

There's a little mini-history/geography lesson for ya! :animwink:

AWESOME trip report. As I mentioned in another report I read earlier today, we're contemplating a stay at CBR, so it's nice to see photos from there. The pool looks amazing!

Nice to hear your experience from T.Rex. The restaurant looks pretty cool, but I have to admit that I'm prejudiced against it because it's by the Rainforest Cafe folks. For some reason, I've never had a good meal there. But the ambiance looks SO COOL that we really want to give T. Rex a try anyway!

Your photos really convey the experience of your trip so well; everyone looks so happy, and you capture a lot of candid moments really well. You probably have some of the best photos here from the perspective of capturing emotion. Kudos on that! (Congrats on the Celebrations Magazine photo!)

I guess I am the only one unfamiliar with "Uncle Matt." Unlike some women here, I guess I'm not too disappointed about him getting married.

I'm back! Sorry for the short hiatus (okay, it was a long hiatus) but I will finish this 9 month old TR!

Day 10 continued...

When I last left off we were touring WS with Duffy(s) in tow. We came upon Mulan and just had to get in line. This has to be one of the all time best M&Gs consistently over the course of all our trips! And I'm pretty sure it's been the same "friend" of Mulan everytime. Kudos to Mulan - she's a pro at her job! Anyways, I have dozens of photos from this M&G but I will just post my favorites. Also, while the kids were taking their turns talking to her the Photopass photographer was snapping pics of them with their Duffys. So again, fair warning... lots of Duffy pictures ahead.

Hugs for Mulan...

Day 11

Well, we're nearing the end of this trip (and this TR). We had no real plan for the next two days and we were certainly slowing down (the Florida sun will do that to you).

We had breakfast by the pool again and took a dip as well.

Disney ~ Sept. 10 & Matt's Wedding 025 by NewfieFan, on Flickr

The night before we tried to return a hat at our resort that we purchased in DHS. The lady said it had to be returned to the same shop that it was purchased in. I knew the difference but she must have caught me at a weak moment or something b/c I didn't argue with her or ask for a supervisor. The hat was expensive and we did want our money back so we headed back to DHS for the sole purpose of returning the hat. We figured we'd do a couple of things in DHS and then boat it over to Epcot.

We caught Block Party Bash while we were there and I was glad we got to see it before it became Countdown to "Fun"!

My daughter really wanted to meet McQueen so we headed over there for her. She's never taken her picture with the Cars characters.

Photo0248FourBySix by NewfieFan, on Flickr

With no real plan we wandered our way towards the exit and my husband stopped at a DVC booth (you know, Disney's best kept secret). We had researched DVC prior to this trip and had talked about the possibility of purchasing in the future. Of course, the guy convinced us (mainly my husband) to go and check it out. Well, with that we were whisked backstage (which was pretty cool) and boarded a van. The DVC office was at Saratoga Springs and it was our first time seeing the resort. We got to put our kids in childcare and then we relaxed with some complimentary drinks and cookies. I'm convinced that they sell DVC to parents by offering to take their children for awhile. How can parents think logically when they're so relaxed and happy b/c someone is watching their children on vacation! Our membership guy (don't know the proper name for them) was really great and we honestly didn't feel any pressure from him. We talked, crunched numbers, and toured the mock-up DVC rooms. It was quite an enjoyable evening actually. We told him we needed a night to talk it over and he was really understanding. They gave all of us some free ice cream and then the van picked us up to take us to Epcot (our request).

This evening is a bit of blur for me. We had a late supper at Sunshine Seasons and rode TT for one last time.

Photo0253FourBySix by NewfieFan, on Flickr

And that was it for Day 11. I didn't take any pictures at Saratoga or during the tour. We tucked the kids in bed and the hubby and I stayed up discussing DVC.

Day 12

This was our last full day *sniff sniff*

We toke the kids to the MK to cross the last few things off our to-do list. The MK is usually how we end a trip, anyway!

Last bus ride to a park *sad*

Day 12 continued...

After we took FL off our to-do list we headed to Tomorrowland and took one last ride on the TTA (Peoplemover).

While on the TTA I spotted Chip 'n Dale in their space costume and we just had to meet them. We parted ways at this point, I went towards the chipmunks with the kids and my husband said he would meet us after he grabbed a frozen coke. Well, as soon as I got there the chipmunks were going in for a break. So, I stayed put assuming that my husband knew where the rodents were doing their M&G. We waited, and waited, and waited, and... well, you get the picture. Daddy was no where to be found! My son started crying (he's a very sensitive and emotional child) even though I was staying calm and reassuring him that daddy would come any second. I didn't want to move b/c I was afraid that he was looking for us.

While we were waiting for daddy Stitch showed up. This time my daughter wanted to meet him (I find she gets a little more brave as the trip goes on).

Here's my son forcing a smile...

And by this time the chipmunks were back!

Disney ~ Sept. 10 & Matt's Wedding 050 by NewfieFan, on Flickr

Chip 'n Dale were great. We told them all about our lost daddy and they tried to sniff him out for us. (They actually got my son to smile for a second!)

Finally, after I don't know how long I took the kids and went walking. I figured if my husband was looking for us he would have found us by now. Well there he was kind of stood over by Space Mountain! I have no idea why he decided to stand there and apparently he didn't know the rule... the parent with the children stays put and the other parent is the one that goes on the hunt. I asked him why he didn't ask a CM where Chip 'n Dale ususally meet but he's a man and incapable of asking directions (wink).

With everything ok in the world again we went over to Columbia Harbour House for lunch. I love the view from upstairs...

Disney ~ Sept. 10 & Matt's Wedding 051 by NewfieFan, on Flickr

After the lunch the kids spotted Frontierland Donald and they had to see him for nanny (it's her favorite character)...

Photo0270FourBySix by NewfieFan, on Flickr

My daughter really, really wanted to see Princess Ariel so we checked out the wait time. Princess Ariel was not even there but a long line was already forming. This was probably the longest time I've ever waited to see a character but my daughter was insistent that she wanted to meet her.

It was worth the wait (look at the excitement on this child's face)...
