You don't find it in all offices. And you used the phrase "mutually exclusive" incorrectly. I'm not sure exactly what you meant, but I think you might have meant that Disney isn't the only place that is being run by dimwits.
Do you work for Disney?
I actually like this logo
Hint;: Take a look at the new Test Track Merchandise.I like the original EPCOT logo best... Is that to return as well? I know I posted the merch pics up with the retro EPCOT logo... wonder if that will be on guidebooks and such in the future.
I can imagine how long it takes the average Disney Attraction CM to clear $350.

Very similar. The original had a stylized globe with Mickey ears inside of the "D".Wasn't this the original logo when it was just Magic Kingdom?
And EPCOT Center and then the Disney-MGM Studios. The change was made for the 25th Anniversary.Wasn't this the original logo when it was just Magic Kingdom?
I would think it would be permanent. After all it was rumored after the Magic Kindom Parking lot Entry re-do that Epcot was next. Also, Marty Sklar verbally trashed the current Epcot logo on the 30th Anniversary.Yeah I was the one who first posted them. I just wonder if it was just for the TT merch or if it was going to be park wide and permenant.
SIGH! No more removing Walt's name from things. They already did that with the Walt Disney Pictures title card.
i hardly think it'd be dishonoring anything since the name DISNEY is still there... i know it's the company's name but it's still a person's name, mind you. so the identity of the man is diminished just because his first name isn't there? no the last name means nothing since it's the name of the now famous company. which was made famous because of him.
Roy Disney felt very differently, to the point that he scolded employees who dropped the "Walt" when speaking with him. It was very important to him that his brother's name be specifically attached to the project. So yes, it would be dishonoring Roy Disney who, instead of retiring, spent the last years of his life opening Phase I of Walt Disney World.
This annoys the frick out of me every time I see it! It's obviously getting worse now as they've started to omit 'Walt' from the DVD cases of classics like Dumbo.
I live in the UK and I'm under 25 and I know exactly who Walt Disney is and how much blood, sweat and tears went into the founding of the company, and how he risked everything he had on Snow White etc. I know that Roy O Disney changed the name of Disney World to Walt Disney World for his brother, as he didn't live long enough to see his dreams realised, and how Roy lived just long enough to open the MK, before also passing away.
I think it really sucks that they are just dismissing the fact that they think 'oh, no one knows who the Disney Brothers are any more, and Disney is a massive co orperation and we just want to make money so lets forget about them.'
I mean, obviously they still have One Mans Dream which I'm really looking forward to seeing for the first time in June. It's just so sad that the brothers own Company are just trying to wipe them from the company. I know Walt's been gone a long time, and what he knew as the motion picture business is a million miles from what he knew, but still, I don't think he deserves to be forgotten by his own company.
Well, yeah because people don't understand that it's a person. It's like, it's just a company. It's like any big company. You lose the person who started it, and it's just a company who make money, and no one is interested in it's history or who founded it or what crap they had to go through get to where the company is today.
Take any big company like, I don't know, do you guys have Harry Ramsdens in the USA? Obviously Harry Ramsden founded the company and it probably has a really interesting history. Granted he makes fish n chips but still. Take away Harry and you're just left with Ramsdens. It's just a company then.
Exactly! Roy was a great man, who sacrificed any retirement plans just to see Walt's dream become a reality. He worked hard every year of his life, the same as Walt.
The dropping of Walt in the pictures logo is due to Mobile phones. Smaller screens required a simpler logo that was more legibible. They signed a deal recently with YouTube to have their films available so it makes sense. TWDC (remember his name is still in the corporate name) won't be dropping Walt from WDW... If they were so hellbent from cleansing Walt they wouldn't have spent millions on Buena Vista St in DCA. They wouldn't have added his statue there either.
I understand the argument you make and the feelings this stirs up but you need not worry.
That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
The reason "Walt" is removed from the title cards in the films is for "branding" purposes -- Walt is not in vogue with the execs in charge, but apparently the generic, corporate, soulless "Disney" brand is. In many ways, the current regime at TWDC would rather move on from "Walt" and everything he and his company stood for.
Smartphones and youtube had absolutely nothing to do with it. It's sickening either way.
I really like the new "throwback" logo. There are a bunch of merch that can now be bought at the disney store. There is one tie dye shirt that I might even have to consider getting: http://www.disneystore.com/walt-disney-world-tie-dye-tee-for-adults-2013/mp/1322718/1000228/
I seem to think that the logo is just a "2013" logo and not a new park logo (that will be plastered over the main entrance, etc.), much like the design of the 40th anniversary logo was. It will be neat to see what the 50th Annivesary logo will look like.
I'm really glad that you can now find shirts with retro park signage/lettering. Likely they (Disney) knows that there is a really strong following out there for that kind of stuff.
Walt on Buena Vista Street is a shallow overlay that was likely tossed in to get the project approved so that it was associated with a franchise (the selling of Disney history). The reason of phone screens is simply ridiculous. The type of people who are going to be streaming full movies to a phone are not on some cheap Android device that is three versions behind. It was all part of the stupid branding movement away from the possessive. It's why new stuff went from "Disney's" to "Disney," "Disney's California Adventure" to "Disney California Adventure" and most recently the title card dropped "Walt" and "Pictures." It's a process that has been slowly moving forward for at least five years.Once again that isn't true. Look at DCA... Buena Vista Street is all Walt. Additionally, there was an article in the Wall Street Journal about Tim Cook (Apple's CEO) and he spoke on following Steve Jobs and the advice Jobs gave him. To sum it up... Jobs, who sat on Disney's board until the end of his life told him to be himself and use his own creativity. He referenced his experiences with Disney and how he believed there was too much talk of what Walt would do in executive meetings. Jobs believed if you tried too hard to emulate another person's vision and creativity, you'd stagnate your own and never truly achieve theirs. Although the point was made for other reasons, I think it shows that Walt still is highly regarded within the company. They may have changed the logo on films but they aren't cleansing themselves of Walt. The reasoning provided in my previous post was the one I found when researching this change.
