New Train Station Sign

Man, I never knew the word "The" meant so much to Walt. Who'da thunk.

I am a self-confessed admirer of Walt and his ideals but come on. Grasping at straws here.

You are missing the point entirely 'The' was not the ONLY thing removed from the sign , The established and population portions were removed but most importantly "Walt Disney World" was removed which is part of an ongoing campaign to remove 'Old Dead Guy Walt' from any customer facing material. It's why 'One Man's Dream' was poofed, Walt was removed from the movie releases.

If this had just been about removing 'The' from the 'The Magic Kingdom' even I would have said stuff changes. Removing the indirect reference to Walt Disney is what animates the people who dislike this change.

I think people are capable of thinking for themselves if they like a change or not, but if you're taking it upon yourself to be the contrarian of WDWMagic, you'd be more successful saying things like "I can see why you prefer the way X used to be, but it's a stretch to say Z" rather than "you are wrong to like the original X because I think it's not important".

If you have a counter opinion, by all means share it, but trying to change people's opinion by saying they're wrong and complaining about complaining is going to accomplish sweet squat-all.
I didn't say that... basically I said that NEITHER of them are worthy of concern. It is a useless concern with no basis of fact. Give a good reason why it is important or even relevant to anything and I might be a supporter of that opinion. However, until then, recent history is showing that many people are not capable of thinking for themselves and need choices to compare and decide what they think is good for them. Hearing only one side is of no real use when it comes to making decisions. BTW, how does one offer a conflicting opinion without, at least, implying that the other is wrong? We can't all be right can we. The rest of you are saying that I'm wrong, my feelings aren't hurt.

Magic Kingdom Park (and that is the official name; no "the". Curious, ain't it?) isn't the Walt Disney World Resort. Maybe it was in 1971, but now there's four parks. MK is its own entity now and has been since 1982 when Epcot opened. It's a lot harder to justify the leftover remnants of the name "Walt Disney World" inside of Magic Kingdom to me (aside from merchandise of course).

Typically one uses logic, or evidence, to counter a specific point objectively. Compare that to:

"I miss the elevation being printed. It was a nice detail that made Main Street seem like a real town and I used it as a segue to discuss the corridors with friends and family"
"The elevation is useless info."

Arguing someone is wrong because you judge something unimportant is inherently flawed as, clearly, it's important to someone. We'd all like the power to decide what is and isn't important in the world, but sadly we must make do with rational conversation.

Thats it for me .. i am cancelling my 2 week stay in the poly bungalows over this. Disney is ruined forevermore.

Yeah, that'll teach 'em. I'm sure they'll reverse their position and put the old sign back up now.

Whoa..

Looks to me they designed to new one to be more similar to the original sign...

In the end it's a sign, but it is most certainly not a sign of bad things to come.

Just a sign. Like, to tell you something. Magic Kingdom isn't declining by degrees because of the sign. There are no signs here. Catch my drift?

I think this is a sign that it is now time to move on from this post about signs.

And really shouldn't offend anyone, because it's just a sign, but you know, people gotta complain about Disney somehow around here. I guess my biggest wonder is the fact that since there is a Magic Kingdom in Anaheim, and it was there first, how come this one was THE Magic Kingdom??

I don't know, because that's what had been on the sign since 1971??

The park in Anaheim has always been called "Disneyland" (but affectionately known as "Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom", but never officially called "Magic Kingdom").

Seeing the removal of the word "The" and the elevation/population numbers brings a few words to mind (that are family-friendly): Sad. Disappointing. Disheartening. Yes, it was small, but it's another little detail gone. And, as was pointed out previously, Disney used to be known for those little details. Just more management by spreadsheet, soulless and clueless.

And, by the way (I'm not sugar-coating this, sorry) - Anyone who uses "The Epcot" in this discussion just sounds moronic.

You're missing the point, it's probably an attempt to curb people from thinking the Magic Kingdom is "Walt Disney World" and not just a part of it. A staggering number of people actually think this.

Nope. Not missing that at all. The poster i replied to was "alluding" that disney is trying to get rid of the Walt part of its name everywhere.

The current sign seems to tie closer to the RR, more common and authentic of a destination/station sign you'd see just telling you what station you're at. THE wouldn't make sense in this type of signage. I believe the design aesthetics are more authentic to the Main Street USA period as well. the Pop and Elevation were cute details, but not accurately depicted. The argument that Walt Disney Word had been removed is also a bit misleading, as the photo shows by the OP, directly below the new sign, says Walt Disney World Railroad (which has been added from the original area in question). Just FoMO on my part, glad to contribute ;)
