New single day quick service dining plan test to begin at the Magic Kingdom

The all season dining plans are good for select people. They definitely aren't a good deal for the way we eat at our park, we eat more snacks than meals so I don't even think we'd break even.
I posted the single day plan on here..it's $31.99 no drink included. Is Six Flags price similar?
We figured a long time ago that the dining plan was not worth it for our family especially when 2 of our kids turned 10. One doesn't eat anything that isn't off the kids menu. Many times our kids just want a pretzel for lunch or a hot dog off a cart. The price point here doesn't seem like a good deal either. At least they should offer a snack as well.
Oops I see it is for 2 QS meals a day. That is not a terrible deal then.

Still not enough of a deal to really make any difference. Just guarantees their money. But portion sizes have shrunk over the past 5 years while prices went up. I'm not falling for that "Nabisco trick." (Nabisco products reduced their packaging sizes and now call the old regular size "family size)
At my local Six Flags (yeah, I know..no comparison...just hold on), you can get a season pass add-on that gets you lunch and dinner every time you go to the park. Yeah, the food's not great, but they do have some good-tasting, nutritional stuff if you go to the "fresh cafe" locations and stay away from the filler-laden burgers. I paid $90 for the entire season (which is six months here in the frozen north). It's a super deal.

Of course, Disney doesn't have to offer anything like that. But it's a stark difference.
Six Flags has horrible service. Went last September for the fist time in over 10 years and was figured by the filth in their kitchens and eating areas.
Exactly. If you pay upfront you're less likely to leave early and still be around for impulse shopping.

Plus as has been said the company is guaranteed the money.
I think this is aimed at AP's and Florida AP's because they all know places that are a better deal outside the parks and will usually eat before and after they visit. I can be home in 12 minutes after leaving the MK gate so it's no value to me.

It's just another way to pay for your food - pay up front and put your wallet away. Not a savings at all and not designed to be. It's like if Disney started accepting payment in Canadian dollars, or bitcoin.

Yep. Not a savings at all unless you get the most expensive items on a couple of select menus. Good values are few and far between. A good piece of advice to everyone is to keep their eyes peeled for the seasonal "shootin and hollering" or something bbq that is located between Splash and BTMRR. Great burgers and dogs. Very reasonably priced.

Whether this is a *good* deal or not.... it won't be a good deal for diners if it causes a *cheapening* of the items available... like say, the fixin bar at Cosmic Rays (what makes that *burger* edible) disappearing... Or like the grilled salmon at Colombia Harbour House going the way of the Citricos Veal Shank...

Like any kind of dining plan, some people will save money with this, others will lose money.

Me and my family usually eat cheap in the parks and just stay at a hotel with a breakfast, order ourselves kids meals for a late lunch, and get dollar menu dinner after the park closes (at most a popcorn in between). A few times a trip we'll eithat treat ourselves to a nicer meal in park (German buffet in Epcot is a favorite) or a nicer meal at night (TGI Friday's endless apps at fantastic).

So, for my family we'd lose money because we'd be spending more on food in park. But considering we spend 20 a person per day total, the occasional 30 per person per day looks more reasonable than 15 a pop for adult meals (even if we logically know it is the same). Disney wants people to think that way and spend more in park than they usually do. Do those people, this is a bad deal. Not a rip off, But not a good deal for them.

Some friends of mine spend 35-50 a day in park usually on food easily. He doesnt have great impulse control with snacks and added desserts and such. This would be good for him as a budgeting tool and save him money. For him it's a good deal.

I don't think this was ever meant to be seen as a "deal" ... they get their money and you prepay for a meal that may or may not be cheaper than what you order. So now you're forced to return that voucher for the meal.

You may already be in line to purchase a 1-day ticket, then the CM says "would you like to add a Quick Service dining plan to that for $x?" You say yes, you pay for your tickets and the meal vouchers, they give you your tickets and your meal vouchers and off you go. I don't see it adding much to that transaction time.
Having the meal vouchers should reduce the time at check out in the quick service locations, hopefully.
Not add much to the transaction time? "Would I like a Quick Service Dining plan? What is it? Tell me about it. What do I get? Are there any restrictions? Will I save money?" The explanation of this is not short and simple because the plan is not simple. Times, restaurants, and menu items are all restircted. The value, if any, is not quantifiable. It depends on where you eat and what you order. Nor is it convenient. Not compared to the ease and simplicity of eating where you want, when you want, ordering what you want, and paying for only what you've ordered.

Or for $20 with NO DISCOUNTS you can get 3+ meals at Subway, Taco Bell and many other "quick serve" restaurants outside the parks. And you won't have to settle for just water either. ;)

True, but you have to leave the park in the middle of the afternoon or early evening to get to those places. Each meal would take you of of the park for 1 to 2 hours.
