News New security measures

I didn't say I think I own it, but I and people who share my opinion have helped to pay for it and don't feel the need to surrender privacy completely just to ride teacups. And I doubt in the decades my family has visited the parks and stayed at Disney Resorts that any of us has shown up "acting like raving lunatics." After following this for 87 pages, I've noticed some people don't tolerate expressions of differing opinions very well. If it doesn't bother you, by all means, keep going, volunteer for a pat down, whatever makes you "feel safe." But don't go ballistic when someone disagrees and says so in a forum dedicated to a discussion of the topic,

Oh, honey, nobody is "going ballistic." They're just laughing at you because you are feigning offense at something so silly.

I'm too old to say this, but I'll say it: Bye, Felicia.

That's funny. I laugh when I see people spread eagled for a "wanding" because they think it's making them safer. Good luck with that. And, you're right, there was nothing vitriolic about saying my comments were "ridiculous" or saying I might show up as a "raving lunatic" or that people are laughing at me because I have a different opinion on a fairly innocuous subject like visiting a theme park. Wow. Just wow. It makes me wonder how many of you work for Disney--or a security company that supplies the useless junk Disney is using.

Just in from the BBC - A man was arrested carrying two firearms at the entrance to Disneyland Paris.
BBC Quote
A man has been arrested with two firearms at an entrance to a hotel at Disneyland Paris, French media report.

The 28-year-old is not known to security services and gave no resistance when he was detained, according to the reports.

Police sources said the man was also found with a copy of the Koran. He was stopped during a security check.

France remains in a state of emergency following the deadly Islamist attacks in Paris in November last year.

I don't work for Disney. I just have a reasonable worldview which prevents me from acting out like a toddler over nothing. I walked through the metal detector. Didn't bother me. So if it bothers you, that is you choosing to make a mountain out of a molehill.

I choose to only get upset at real problems.

I am reading "a hotel near disneyland paris" Wonder if this means a Disney hotel or another hotel in the area....

From what I read (cant find the link), he was trying to check into a hotel. His suitcase was x-rayed and they found two handguns.

Exactly which hotel? It is not clear yet. Story is still coming out.

A police source told the Reuters news agency the 28-year-old man was carrying the firearms in a suitcase and was stopped by Disney security staff after the bag passed through an X-ray machine at the Hotel New York.

He was carrying ammunition and a copy of the Koran, the source added.

I think it's possible to not be bothered by the actual check at the metal detector but the idea of it. Sure it's no big deal, but it serves no purpose and unnecessarily inconveniences you. To me it's equivalent to a straight section of road with no intersections adding a red light at a random spot. Is stopping for one minute going to really hurt anyone probably not, but you can bet something like that would get huge public opposition.

Some people go through the world needing to know the reason behind why something is done rather than just ignorantly going through life thinking everything thrown at them must be for their own good.

As the events in Paris today prove, screening does serve a purpose. After reading a lot of comments in this thread you world think these security measures never work. Nothing is 100% effective but they do serve a purpose and they do work. The question is whether it is worth the hassle and expense.

That has absolutely nothing to do with this. They found those guns x-raying the bags. Randomly pulling a few people aside who could just simply refuse the search if they wanted will do absolutely ZERO to add to security.

While you could refuse the request to walk through the metal detector, Disney security could also refuse to let you into the park. As a CM told me Tuesday, guests should view the enhanced security measures like the TSA, but without the full body scan and sometimes inappropriate pat down.....

Yeah my point is someone trying to bring a gun in to do something bad has absolutely nothing to deter them from trying, worst case scenario they have to leave and come back and try again.
