News New security measures

Maybe they're increasing the % of guests sent through scanners bit by bit as they work out the kinks of the system, and will eventually send everybody through?

Anyone have updates on how the new security is going at Uni by comparison?

As to uni they have been wanding everyone since the 18th and they don't have the rent-a-goons doing it. Uni security has been handling it with 2 person teams one checks your bag the other does the scan

That would be me a certified SME. But as you see I have not chimed in at all as discussion in open forums of effective policy, procedures, and methodology only gives people ideas of where to start to counteract them. You want effective? Take a look at Airport security in Israel. Very low tech, but the most effective you'll see almost anywhere.
I looked up airport security in Israel and found the thing they do differently is train their people properly. What a concept! Wish TSA would try that. ;)

They dont rely on "things" which may or may not work, rather security in depth with people who engage each traveler and are trained to evaluate reactions.

A friend and I got selected for screening while entering Magic Kingdom today. We came in over to the side by bus area and went thru the temporary bag check on that side. After they checked the bags we were routed to scanner. Employees were very polite and the process took only a few seconds and we were on our way. I'm guessing the backpack of camera gear for shooting parades today was the trigger but that is totally speculation.

All in all no big deal that did not disrupt my visit experience at all.

I'm guessing they can since there aren't that many airports in Israel, but you need many numbers of TSA employees here to do all the airports.

I did not notice any delays with the detectors during our trip last week. They sent random people to the extra spot, but nothing that created an extra line.

There isn't any expectation that the current setup would create any delays other than the minor delay for those that are selected. Seems the big issue most people have with this is the method used to "select" people and the fact that this serves no purpose.

Quick, yes
Easy, yeah
Painless, sure
Meaningless, absolutely!

Absolute safety can only be achieved through absolute nudity. No clothes and you have no place to hide weapons. Of course, if you are super obese, you will still be (magic) wanded in case you are hiding weapons in your rolls. An X-Ray or MRI may also be needed.

Consider yourself quoted.

I think your idea of nudity has merit: It would help to drop attendance at the very least. Personally, if I were screened this way, I'd never leave for fear of having to go through that again the next time

This could make lines shorter at airports as well. This is such a great idea... if everyone overreacts, I think that we could get make this a reality. It would also make nudists very happy.

Its all about perception. We can pick that apart analytically all we want, but at the end of the day Disney felt that it had to be seen doing something and the average potential park guest doesn't realize that it is mostly for show.

Yes. It is interesting though in this situation that we get to see how each park operator chooses to react to what is obviously the same recommendation or suggestion. Disney's has certainly been the weakest response. They didn't even bother to so it themselves they just contracted a company to come in and occasionally pull a few people aside and check them. It is a shame though to see the money being wasted on this. My hope is that based on the minimal effort they put out that they expect to only do this temporarily. If I were judging based on what I see at the other parks I would think this may be more permanent. Universal put in metal detectors after initially just using wands and I hear Seaward just put in some metal detectors as well today.

Funny enough, I did not, but I DID actually get a sticker on that day in the Main Street Emporium for tossing a "snowball" into a bucket for a CM and nailing it on the first try. ;)
You know this reminds me I have several of those Junior Disney Security stickers laying around unused. I think I may start carrying them around with me and if I happened to get pulled aside hand them out to the CSC employees as a thank you.:)

Orlando Sentinel:

The Orange County Sheriff's Office's mounted patrol unit is expected to start appearing at Disney Springs next month. Disney and a sheriff's spokesman wouldn't disclose how often the horses will walk the premises. Disney wouldn't say what prompted use of the horses but said it had already been making plans for them before a Christmas night brawl at its dining and shopping complex that escalated into chaos when people mistakenly thought they'd heard gunshots.

Disney's theme parks have also stopped allowing guests to check firearms in with security and have them stored in special safes. Law enforcement officers can still have their weapons stored, though.
