New Rumor Says Further Demolitions Cancelled & Clubs Could Reopen!

and that is exactly what I did:
Dear Tom,

I am writing to express my support and desire for nightlife to be reintroduced at the Walt Disney World resort. The closing of Pleasure Island left a gaping hole for college kids, single travelers, couples without kids and convention attendees. The beauty of the entire complex was that it had something for everyone’s musical tastes. As Downtown Disney evolves after the closing, I sincerely hope the venues that replace the clubs are allowed to offer dancing late at night. Nothing can ever replace Mannequins, which once won best club in the southeast, but I hope any new venues (ultra lounges perhaps?) can offer the same techno/dance music as Mannequins and perhaps another could offer 70’s and 80’s similar to 8-trax. I don’t know the validity of any rumors out there suggesting this is even on the table of possibilities, but I couldn’t resist taking the opportunity to express my desire to stop driving 15+ miles to dance (or worse, taking that money to that OTHER park) and bring that money back to Disney property.

Thank You,

<name>

yes I used first name because Disney is a first name company!

Wow a new form letter that we can send to Disney Management in stead of the other way around

Bad choice using the term "college kids." Maybe "college students" but "college kids" implies the kind of immature imbeciles I've been trying to get away from for four years. "College kids" implies keg stands and pools of Natty Light on the floor, which is exactly the clientele that Disney wouldn't want fouling up the atmosphere at a hypothetical re-vamped night club district.

Am I missing something? IF I am reading the rumors correctly there isnt a chance we are going to get Mannequins, the Adventures Club or any of the others back as they were. .. That being said there is no legal way the Adventures Club could return,

Technically, Disney could lease the rights to use its intellectual property in the AdvClub, although I admit that is unlikely. Not unprecedented tho--Disney on Ice and Disney Live! are both run by a third party company who simply licenses the characters and songs from Disney.

Personally, tho, I think Disney would be smart to open at least one club on HW, to show potential tenants they have "skin in the game" as well. The AdvClub seems the most logical choice in that (i) it's a weenie, (ii) it would bring them gobs of good PR, especially in the fanboi community, and (iii) not much else will ever fit in that building.

But the odds are no, it's not coming back.

QUESTION

So if a 3rd party were given permission to open a (1) new club on the island....I mean Warf....where do you feel the most likely location would be??? What do you guys think???

Mannequins. Best placement of the clubs, and has the spinning dance floor which is a nice gimmick. Doubt it will be all techno/house music, tho, my guess is more like the top 40 at Motion, perhaps with some 80s thrown in (or an 80s night).

8-Traxx wouldn't be bad either, tho.

Agree. Since that building cannot be torn down, that would be the place most logical to reopen as a club. Plus it's just so damn huge, not much more you could do with it!

Has work really stopped, or is there any evidence that this is true?

I am asking this from 912 miles away.

As someone who still visits the Island a couple times a week, yes. Work continues on a service entrance to Portabello, but nothing noticable since the buildings came down and grass was laid.

The size of it makes it less likely to rent in this economy. Harder to rehabilitate too.

Again, people using "the economy" as a cover-up for DTD management's screw-up despite strong evidence to the contrary (up to 6 restaurants within 2 years on a single corner of 192! giant Dave & Busters on I-Drive!).

I'll just say, as the only "dance" club of its type at DTD, one of only two on WDW property, I think any place in Mannequins would do alright, just as it and Motion and 8-Traxx did before October 2009. And as Mouse Detective said, given its size and configeration, not sure anything else could fit in there.

I agree. Mannequins would be the best space for a club but
........ Disney isnt going to open a club on the Warf. Its being debated whether to allow a 3rd party that option. That said, as someone mentioned before, the rent for that prime location would be outrageous and im not sure its even logical to think a club COULD re-open in that space. I honestly believe they already have plans for that building since the neighboring HD store conveniently decided to relocate at this time as we wait for further development of that building and the rest of the area to begin.

I do wonder how much of the equipment is left in Mannequins. I know there are rumors that the floor is gone and what about all the lights? They wouldnt just leave that kind of equipment in there sitting would they? It really is pretty sad to think that such an amazing club got shuttered. It easily had the best light show on the island and MAN a rotating dance floor......it was just a one of a kind experience.....

sound system was sold at property control. light system was redistributed across property. The 2 mannequins that came down from the ceiling were sold. the rest are still hanging as they were the night of the closing

whatever, college kid or college student, they are both IN COLLEGE so it doesn't make a difference.

lets be honest, we are not changing minds by picking apart what a given word "implies". We are trying to make our voices heard. At the end of the day, Disney is going to do what they are going to do(read: it's all about the $$$$$$$$) but we have no right to if we don't at the right people.

No, no I understand. I also realize that nobody important will ever read that message. I just think that it's still fairly undecided as to whether PI closed due to money or due to image. Ultimately, if it were "image" that ultimately shut down PI then it still translates to money as image=publicity=money.

PI was closed due to money. Even though the PI clubs were profitable, they estimated that they could make those spaces earn higher profits if they were leased out to third parties. Fewer headaches too due to fewer employees but that was just a bonus. Bottom line, more profits. Nothing wrong with that; they owe it to their stockholders to maximize profits. They were simply wrong for a lot of reasons. And now PI earns less profits and the impact on image and good will has been horrible.

Not true at all.
Image was never an actual factor in PI's closing.

It was a red herring tossed out on boards like this to deflect attention from the fact it was purely a money trumps show/guest satisfaction decision.

I don't usually relate clubs with even-keeled patrons. If you put a club anywhere, you are going to get some of those immature imbeciles you try to avoid.
