New Park?

True

Agreed, that was simple (it was boring enough as it was) but correct.

You must keep in mind the kind of demand. People have a choice when vacationing. If the prices go up people will buy tickets to somewhere cheaper bringing the prices back down.. It is also much cheaper for an airline to fly 300 people in than 10 at a time. Trust me, it would take the industry days or weeks, not years, to get the supply in.

All of that aside, Disney isn't worried about making parks within driving distance of Omaha or St. Louis. Orlando is a very cheap place to fly, eat, and stay as it is. I can get a flight for under $150 most of the time from my Midwestern town.

::sighs::

Why can't people just be happy with what they have already?

I agree! What does it matter if they are going to build another part in FL or any other place. It is not going to stop me from going to WDW and having the most magical time :sohappy: if they do not build another park. If they build another park, GREAT! If they don't, also great! I have been going to disney since day 1 in 71. I did not complain when there was only one park. When the others came along that was just icing on the cake. Aparently nobody has anything better to do than to do complain :( about what you do not have instead of being HAPPY for what you do.:sohappy:

I'm almost sorry I started this thread. I didn't mean for everyone to get up in arms about whether or not there is an impending/will be ever Texas Disney park. I just wanted to see what everyone thought about the picture that was posted on the investors page. I did label it New Park...just cause it was what was written as the caption. Sorry.
The real reason why I'm sorry is that everyone here is giving a miriad of reasons why Disney won't build a park anywhere. Cost, tourism base, economic reasons...whatever. But no one here is giving the reasons why they can. Because they are Disney. And I may just have a soft spot for the ideals set forth by the man that inspires me on a daily basis but Walt made the impossible believable. He made the wonderful...touchable. And he made a lot of our dreams come true. So just remember that when you get into a contest about who here is "righter." There are a million reasons why there shouldn't be another Disney park but only one reason why it should be...and that reason is because it's Disney. And to me...that reason outweighs anything else you can put up against it.
So I'm guessing that the answer to my question on whether anyone else here had heard anything about the posted picture on the investor page is:

"We're too busy counting the ways why there shouldn't be a park, we're too busy arguing about the fiscal dynamics of a Texas based attraction, and, more importantly, we're too busy trying to prove everyone else on a post wrong that we will completely ignore the question at hand."

Thanks guys...I guess next time I'll post a question that won't be taken so personally. Possibly something on gay marriage or stem cell research.

The Truth

youve nothing, nothing at all to be sorry about. the self apponted thread police are the ones who should appologize to you. censorship sucks.

this is by no means a dead subject, were it one, the thread would have died long ago. the fact that there are new posts show interest and i beleive a majority of people here like the subject. its just those few who deem it unworthy are more vocal. ignore them.

myself, i dont see a new park opening anything soon and prolly not in america, tho i would love to see one, especially another on in florida. i do feel that this subject should be discussed as long as there is interest and as there are constantly new people joining this forum, there are always new views on the subject.

keep up the good work.

:sohappy: I totally agree with everything you said - eventhough I wasn't alive in 1971...

Just curious, what years did MGM and EPCOT open? I think AK was in 1998 if I'm not mistaken and, of course, MK was in '71. I was just wondering what the gap was between parks.

Thank you, that is exactly what I wanted to type, but was too lazy, lol.

I just don't get why it's so crazy to think WDW could have a new park 2010. The other parks were built no more than 11 years apart. We certainly didn't NEED AK when we had MGM, but they built it anyway.

WDW prior to DAK was still in its growth mode....as was the Orlando tourism industry. Orlando is now a mature destination....it will never again grow like it did in the 80's and 90's.

-When SeaWorld opened in 1974, it did not hurt the attendance at MK
-When Epcot opened in 1982, it did not hurt the attendance at the MK or SeaWorld
-When MGM opened, it did not hurt the attendance at MK, Epcot or SeaWorld
-When Universal opened, it did not hurt the attendance at MK, Epcot, MGM, or SeaWorld (but Boardwalk and Baseball was closed)
-When DAK opened, it DID hurt the attendance of Epcot and MGM (MGM never recovered, Epcot only recovered in the last 2 years)
-When IOA opened, it DID hurt the attendance of Universal (which has never recovered)

What you are seeing is the saturation of the market. As the average length of stay for a family can only get so long (for out of state families, it is 4.5 days) decisions need to be made on what parks will be visited, and which will be skipped. Prior to DAK and IOA, this was never really a problem, as guests could visit all of the parks and not skip any. Even prior to DAK being announced, there was discussion that perhaps WDW was "overbuilt" in Orlando and that they would need to consider other options. This is why theme parks of the future may look nothing like what you envision a theme park to be currently....

There are 9 theme parks in Central Florida, 5 water parks, and countless side attractions....at what point is that "enough"?

Lets just say that it comes down to updating 4 other parks. There is no time to have another park. There wont be another park for a long time. They have the space but now is not the time. You still have AK as an unfinished park. You cant even think about a new park until you finish a park you have started.

"finish" is a strange word.....the parks will never be "finished" as trends and guest desires change constantly...

I would say until the parks that are around at this current time are completely relevant in all ways (rides/attractions/shops/dining) there is no reason for another park. Considering the condition of MGM and parts of MK, there is no reason to build a new park prior to these parks being redeveloped up to the standards that guests coming today and "tomorrow" will enjoy.

didnt walt say something to the effect that disneyland would never be finished, or was it completed? i think that would go for the rest of the parks too

Yes but AK and MGM are no where as "complete" as Epcot and Mk. You cant build until the other parks are "complete" Its like opening a new park with 3 rides in it and calling it a park. Its got to have some sense of "completeness".
