News New Parade: Magic Happens

This parade has the Worst Main Theme Song ever. It really drags the whole thing down. The floats are underwhelming except for Coco. A lot of talented performers giving it their all, though. They all deserve to be in a better parade.
And Merlin looked like he was younger than Wart.

Not really a fan.

- Mickey Float was fine. The costumes are just plain weird.
- Moana Pt. 1 was I think the best float. Beautiful float, amazing costumes & great choreo.
- Moana Pt. 2 really just starts to feel redundant. Maui doesn't need his own float and those dancers in front of it are just not good. Replace this Maui unit with something else.
- Coco's float was too grand with a lot happening but at the same time nothing happening. It's just too big. They should have made it smaller, maybe make the Maui unit Coco.
- Frozen 2. Costumes were awful, Float is just a mess with too many ideas that just overwhelm you in not a good way. Also why Frozen 2 when you can just make a Frozen float. They were limited by the Frozen 2 idea which downgraded the float. Also, the floats gonna be pretty outdated in a few years times.

GRAND FINALE- I like the characters walking around prior such as Peter Pan, Fairies, Pinocchio, Aladdin. I think they should add a few more characters such as Rapunzel, Ariel, Belle, Alice in Wonderland, etc. mixed in throughout the finale between the floats. Also the dancers in these final 4 floats it just looks like they ran out of ideas & ran out a budget. Seriously, they look like crap. Also, Why does Maui get his own float when Peter Pan should get his own float. The final float in Dreaming Up would be great in this parade.
- Cinderella. I actually think it's a beautiful float.
- Sword in the Stone. Arthur & Merlin are amazing and the float is just fine.
- Princess and the Frog. Simple yet amazing. I love it.
- Sleeping Beauty's float is beautiful. I really love it.

They should have honestly took out Maui's float, made that Coco's float. Then replaced the Coco float with a "catch-all" style float, the parade would be massively improved. Also changing the Frozen 2 float to a generic Princess float. Too late to do all that now, but they should have done that from the begining.

Decent parade, but Paint the Night & Soundsational were WAYYYYY better. I'd say Festival of Fantasy is even better.

Now rereading this, I'm starting to notice that besides Mickey and Cinderella, none of these characters are in Paint the Night. I wonder if that was done on purpose to have both parades run each day in the summer and there be very little redundance.

Unlike a ride, this is something you can judge by a video. It’s purely visual. It’s also an area that I’m personally qualified to judge from my real-world job and experience—I’m not an armchair Imagineer here.

This is one of the most awkward parades Disney has put out in a long time. Most of the floats are too small and too few; there isn’t much consistent art direction except swirls. Then amid the tiny floats, there are massive, oversized monstrosities for Moana and Frozen. There’s no consistent sense of scale, and some of the floats dwarf their characters while others are too small. The colors on Mickey’s float clash.

The costumes range from “art-school artsy” to “‘80s ugly” and, frankly, look like somebody tried too hard. Disney’s emphasis on the costumes and makeup reveals a big flaw: this element was intended to appeal to trendy Instagrammers, which ignores how quickly trends change. The art direction will be dead within a year. Considering classic Disney parades, I’d rather see dancing broomsticks, gingerbread men, scarecrows, or ostriches than random people in randomly outrageous costumes. The choreography in those costumes is embarrassing, with lots of posing to say, “Look how hip and cool I am!”

If you have to say you’re cool...

The music quickly wears out its welcome through redundancy.

Disney doesn’t do “hip” well. The vibe doesn’t fit into the Disneyland surroundings.

But for every failure, there are some successes. The Coco unit is incredible! Its scale doesn’t quite fit, but it’s loaded with fun details and animations. I hope to see it carried into future parades. Same thing for the gorgeous Sleeping Beauty finale. And the tiny floats for Merlin/Wart, Cinderella, and Tiana could be expanded into units with appropriate characters and dancing that actually matches the movies instead of pairs of dancers who flap banners and strike awkward poses.

All IMHO. ;)

We disagree on the Moana/Coco floats, but I could see the case for either one. The LED wave on Moana is a nice touch, although I prefer the physical animations on Coco. But both floats are enormous for hardly any riders.

Again, the scales just seem off base. Some floats are much too small and practically disappear amid Disneyland’s Main Street architecture (they probably look even tinier passing through Small World Mall and the Matterhorn). Others are huge set pieces that don’t have much otherwise.

But I’m also not a fan of Paint the Night, and my taste runs closer to Tokyo’s day and night parades, which I love.

I think you hit many nails right where they needed to be hit.
