News New Parade: Magic Happens

Thoughts upon a quick view on a phone - so I can't speak for anything that is "better in person": As a designer, this parade has the same issues for me that Fest Of Fantasy has - there doesn't seem to be a controlling design language for the overall look. I loved that Soundsational had ONE thematic language. The idea of paper art was carried through very consistently - even reinterpreting elements from the said movies into that style - it tied perfectly into the subtle idea of "sheet music" that is the foundation for all music. The music varied from unit to unit, but remained consistent in tempo and tone throughout - actually building to a finale that felt like the logical capstone of the entire parade. I felt there was also better pacing of large unit - small unit alternating through the whole parade. This seems just...there. Sounds like many of the effects read better at dark, so I can't speak to that. The parade of wackiness that kicks it off is fairly fresh and inventive, but then the "ribbons of magic" (their words not mine) of the first float end there. To me any of these floats could have come from any parade and been dropped in - even the finale doesn't tie it together stylistically - either visually or musically. Its like a different parade joined in at the end and just rolled along.

It's "nice" - seems labored at the end, and doesn't do anything "new" in my book once the opening unit passes by.

Great video of the 5:00 1:00 pm showing.

Best one I have been able to find. The camera is stable, resolution and audio are good, and you have a view of the castle and Matterhorn, what more could you ask for?

My bad, I saw that it was uploaded 8 minutes ago so I assumed it was a live stream that had just ended. Still a great video.

I like the parade. I have nothing against the music. Looks very solid, I'd say the weakest point was the Cinderella float.

So I like the music but i think it's the actual order that gets it weird. First 3 floats, doing ok. Frozen could have been better and was almost too short of a section, but I think where it really falls apart is the last few. The music changes and gets super chill and there's 3 little floats and one big one at the end. Those 3 should have been mixed between Frozen Coco and Moana. Would have been structured better.

Disney parades are always extremely cringy to me. This music seemed particularly repetitive and boring/dull to me. Also, Maui was terrifying, and there seemed to be waaaayyy too much open space between floats. Good to know I won’t need to waste any time trying to see it in person this summer. I’m just not a parade person.

Especially since there aren't any music cues to those last three little units they could go anywhere, and to my previous point - the 3 little one big didn't go together stylistically AT ALL they just sort of felt like extra floats they had form some other parade. Even it there was a "visual framework" that the looks from the movies fit within that tied into the last float - or if the opening and closing had anything to do with each other stylistically. I guess I just like the whole to look more unified.

Going to have to wait to see it in person. The usual armchair experts and mopes here aren’t impressed so it must be stunning. ;)

Update: Finally saw the parade. It was on the short side but still damn good. Floats are really beautiful and the music worked a lot better than when it was first heard at D23. Video doesn’t do it justice.

no - they are sharing their opinions. They don't claim to be experts. They maybe just have a skill set that gives them a different perspective and this exists as a forum to share their own opinions. You are welcome to share yours as well.

While I agree with you about that final opinions should be based on in-person experiences, please don’t pretend you’re not a mope.
Nope no mope. Just a person who will be the biggest advocate of a product that impresses me, and a observant “critic” of one that doesn’t. Please don’t pretend to know about me. Maybe basing personal opinions on in person experiences applies to people as well.
