It definately! I was actually on hold for an hour this morning waiting to get through to switch people over to it and to book new reservatins. I am on with them now.

Wow that is an awesome deal. Any ideas why they are doing this? It didnt seem like they were going to have any kind of specials, besides AP specials this year since business seems to be doing well. Could it be because of the hurricane threats this year? Since last year was so bad with the weather maybe the bookings were down? Any insight Pam?

From what I was told the rooms were just not selling for this time frame so they put this out to bring in the clients.

The way I figure it (and Lord knows I could be wrong), food is marked up pretty darn high at the World. It represents a pretty nice profit margin, which means that costs aren't quite so high. Therefore, they can use food as a loss leader. Sure, some people will take advantage of the offer strictly as it stands-Base ticket, no add-ons, etc. But lots of people will take advantage of the money saved on food to do all the ticket add-ons, OR add days to their vacation where food isn't comped. Or spend it on souveneirs which also tend to have a ridiculous profit margin. Or pay extra for one of the uber-expensive restaurants which means they'll have an extra meal to buy. Or upgrade their room, which costs more fot the customer, but it's not more expensive for Disney to upkeep.

It's a great value to the consumer, and if I weren't an AP holder/DVC member (and if I could travel in that time frame), I'd take advantage of it, too. But WDW figures they will get that money back from most people in a myriad of other ways.

I dont disagree with you Slappy but I know my party was planning on going in any event and having this offer does represent a savings to us. We would have gone for the same time frame, probably bought the same souveniers etc. I like the offer and took advantage of it already!!! Belle

What a break!

This deal could be the savings my family needs to get back to WDW. I have called Pam and gave her our info! Hope it works out. My kids will be crazy when they hear about this! I guess I better not tell them until we go???

Pam,
Now that room only prices are out for next year, any word on packages? Looks like it would be a $4-5 increase for room only.

OHMIGOD...that's all I can say about this deal.

And I don't say that very often, hehe.

Loss-leader or not, this is an EXCELLENT deal. I'm going to book a room for three people who need a room/ticket anyway (we were booked seperately for two rooms under my passholder rate), which means for our 7 night/8 day stay we will get 21 FREE SIT-DOWNS, 21 FREE COUNTER SERVICE, and 21 SNACKS. For FREE. That's 42 free meals!

Let's do the math. You can easily spend $40/person at a sit-down, and let's say counter is $10, snack $3.

21*$40=$840
21*$10=$210
21*$3 =$63

That's a grand total of $1113 of FREE FOOD!

This isn't like trying to decide if it's worth it or not because it's $35/person/day, this is FREE.

This is a special trip for a special member of our family, and that extra grand is going to go a LONG way to making her trip even more magical. It works out to about a grand, because we will loose the passholder discount on one of the rooms which works out to about $140.

A thousand bucks worth of free food...if it wasn't Pam bringing us this news I'd tell whomever believed this to have their head examined. :)

Sorry to be overly effulgent, but man...this is one hell of a deal.

I agree with you!!! Although to really get a true number you have to calculate out how much more you are paying for the room and then factor in how much you would spend on food( THAT Is the tricky part!!!) It was still somewhere around $800 or so for my group!!! Belle

For me it works out to be less to not use the package. I just called and rebooked my rooms with the military promotion and saved over a thousand dollars off the rack rates. If I rebooked as a package and got free dining that would save me about $675 but then I'd pay over a thousand more for my rooms so it's over $375 less for me to juse use the military discounts. It is a truly awesome deal though. I can't even imagine if I was able to combine it with the military room discount (I asked and they said no). The promotions right now are outstanding. I'm very happy!

Allllll I'm saying is, I wouldn't be surprised if, once you're there, you find yourself tempted to spend more than you normally would because you saved so much on the meal deal. I'm NOT saying you'd spend an amount equal to the price of the meal deal. But you might find yourself buying more (or more expensive) souveniers. Or thinking about seeing La Nouba again (if you're not already going). Plus, since the meal plan only covers 2 meals and a snack, maybe you'd consider spending more on that one meal a day NOT covered. And walking all day in the hot sun, you might need more than one snack a day anyway.

If you know (or are fairly certain) what your budget is going to be-how much you're willing to spend on souveneirs or drinks or what have you-and that number is a fixed number that won't change even with the money you just saved, then I think that's great. I know *I* don't have that kind of will power, and if I suddenly found myself with a lot of extra money because of the meal deal savings, I'd probably spend at least some of it. And it's my kind of sad pathetic weakness that Disney is counting on most people having to make the meal deal promotion worth their while. :)
