Nearmap has updated their Orlando area images. Looks like some interesting things going on in the marina area behind MK. This is probably part of River of Light.

Have had this debate many times since it was turned off, so I'll keep it brief.

I vehemently disagree with you on the impact of the A-mode Yeti.

Like any great horror-monster film, the experience is amplified by a shocking, sudden interaction with the beast, not a prolonged exposure. I thought it was a perfectly timed interaction. Your eye caught him in full fury when you entered the cavern and then rushed right at his swiping arm.

It was a "Holy S___!" moment that took the attraction to a much higher level.
I rode it a handful of times back when it first opened. I agree the fog was a great effect. As far as the yeti goes, I thought the impact varied depending on where you were on the train. On my first ride, I thought it was a bit of a letdown. On my second ride, the yeti's arm swung right over my head - that was incredible.

Hoping whatever they are constructing in front of Everest compliments the mountain. Was always a pretty view from across the pond, hoping it remains that way.

You can see from this Orlando Parks News photo that one building's shape mimics the Nepalese style building behind it (block with a smaller block on top). I expect this RoL area will be as complimentary to Serka Zong as Theater District was to Harambe.

Your post got me thinking - a real opportunity to "expand" the footprint of the Everest area. Along the path behind the seating they could do a whole marketplce look with themed tables and booths for snacks and merchandise stands. Suddenly the main path area becomes a new "waterfront district" of Serka Zong that comes to life in the evenings.

Thanks. It is more that straight on look at Everest that always impressed me. I can't get WDWMagic's photo to stick
but this one...

I too hope it will compliment. I know it is a ways off from completion but looking across the pond the Mountain is beautifully massive. I am wondering how the structures now being built will stand up to massive mountain and the mountain being so close. I'm having a hard time imagining the outcome.

I wasn't a big fan of how they blended and transitioned Original Fantasyland to New Fantasyland nor Tomorrowland Speedway to Circus so I do hope they don't muck this up. I've got to say with how minimal some of AK started out it has come leaps and bounds in some of the newer theming.

Are folks as concerned as I am about the cohesiveness of the RoL observation areas to the rest of the park? There seems to be a lot to complain about with AK but theming and cohesion was never one of them. I'd hate to see the waterfront just be "paved over" so that they can horde us in for the show. These little photos don't seem to give much to answer the question. Anyone have any firsthand opinions? Reassure me the charm of the waterfront isn't dying with this project.

Also "theming" comes up as a spelling error on this forum. That's sacrilege.

Considered yourself reassured. All indications are that this will be an outstanding piece of place-making that improves the waterfront:
1. You'll have an expanded 'village' (including the newly-converted Fastpass/bar, show control building and other smaller buildings being erected) that adds depth to the area.
2. They kept the mature trees between viewing and the main path.
3. The seating area itself is now getting character paint and looks great (see OTPN photo below)
4. As someone notes in the OTPN comments, the fact that there is a fairly small amount of seating could be a real benefit to the park: everyone sees the show but instead of one big performance, you have 3-4 reservation-based showings. That way there is no mass exodus that could overwhelm The Oasis.
5. The environmental work completed so far in this AK Expansion has earned them the benefit of the doubt.

I'm as excited about the prospect of an expanded Serka Zong as I am about the show itself. With Harambe's expansions being so detailed and immersive, I can hardly wait to explore what's coming to Serka Zong.

My main worry was that they'd remove trees that block Dino-Rama's "cementosorous" from being easily visible from Asia. Very relieved that it looks like it's still be pretty well-hidden.

why is it this nighttime show and the nighttime Safari ride is expected to open in the spring but the posted AK hours into the summer don't go past the normal times they have now? Are they just waiting until it's officially open and working until they mod the hours?

The hours are always provisional and nearly always get extended closer to the time. I wouldn't read anything into it.

appreciate the responses. hopefully, i will get to see it and assess it myself soon. i imagine that any changes are going to impact the "pristine-ness" of the waterfront, but there are, of course, ways to blend it/theme it that can mitigate that impact. i was just hoping they weren't going to put up aluminum bleachers. :]

I've been watching the photos during construction, and the ones with closer views seem to have quite a lot of texture in the seating areas. Certainly will change the overall look, but at least to my eye, looks like they are keeping with a "rock" type influence.

While at AK today, I snapped a couple photos of RoL but then saw the same pics already posted from yesterday lol. I'll add this one though, not sure if it is projectors but there were quite a few dome like show structures installed along the water behind Flame Tree. Apologies if this has already been posted.
They're spotlights for the show, I believe. The domes are for protection from weather.
