Not unless a fan drew it!

That's what I thought.
I wonder why the rumors about Australia have been so persistent, then.
Is it just because it seems like an obvious thematic companion to Asia and Africa, or did the company announce something at some point that drove the speculation?

There was fanboi talk.
OK, wasn't sure if it was a truly considered plan or just armchair imagineering passed around the internet.

That said, would it at least be accurate to say that is a new land with live animals was planned, that it would probably go in that cleared area between Africa and Asia? That area is considered an expansion pad, right?

All I know of the land (aside from River Run) is its for expansion and the master plan is to connect the Planet Watch area to the park by walking instead of just train.

Since no post-Avatar expansion is likely until 2025 or later, I don't think "Up" would still be relevant. It also doesn't move enough merch.
I don't know if that entirely applies, mainly because
A) Ratatouille is pretty much just as irrelevant as Up and got a dark ride recently, many years after it released.
B) Even though merch isn't/shouldn't be a huge factor for creating an attraction, Up can still potentially sell a lot. Doug plushies, "Wilderness Explorer" kits with Boy Scout-esque stuff like camping gear, enough to fill up a gift shop for after the ride. I like the idea of being able to buy a Wilderness Explorer sash, then kids can go out and do Agent P-esque "missions" throughout DAK and you can get actual patches on them, and keep the sash plus all the patches of the accomplishments they did as a souvenir.

I love the movie UP but it should probably be over at DHS in the Pixar Expansion Area. But I could see it fitting in at DAK. How about Bambi? This there one ride at any Disney parks that has Bambi?

You already can do this in Animal Kingdom, except its stickers in a paper booklet for completing badges http://blog.touringplans.com/2015/07/14/wilderness-explorers-review/

Going back on subject with ROL, does anyone expect Disney to release more details at D23?
great question...obviously they re releasing quite a bit on avatar so it will be interesting to see if they will...my guess is no since they didn't mention it yet, at least in the parks and resorts pavilion, perhaps for we will hear more during the presentation.... 90 min presentation surely is enough time to mention it

Why would seating be an operational nightmare? I loved World of Color during my trip to Disneyland; but hated having to stand the whole time. Seating is a big plus in my book. Please have loads of seating.
I prefer seating as well, but it will cause some major capacity issues. You just can't seat as many people in an area that you could pack in standing. Plus there is some concern about how this will look during the rest of the day.

Fantasmic is the best comparison as it's a huge area separated from the rest of the park. It still has capacity issues and RoL doesn't appear to have nearly as much viewing areas.

Rivers of Light looks teeny compared to Fantasmic. I'd be interested to see a numbers comparison on these. I guess it also depends on if they're planning to do multiple shows of RoL a night and how long it is. It seems like a big loud show happening on the water multiple times a night would be really distracting for the rest of the park.
