The fountains and the boats make me think of Fantasmic. I wonder whether the general public would view the two shows as "the same thing."

Well, DLR has WoC in DCA and then Fantasmic! in DL and I haven't seen that be a complaint -- and those parks are right next to each other. Considering the content would be completely different, I doubt people would made that connection any more than they would with parades in different parks "being the same thing".

Also, the setting between DAK and DHS would be very diffent with a purpose built theater for F! but this looks more like you find a spot on the edge of the Discovery River to watch.

Cant wait to hear the music. WDW is getting a lot of love recently. Is this because of George Kaligridus(???) I don't know but it's better than the witch meg. Uh her face gave me nightmares.

The concept for the show looks promising and may have some good things going for it:

- Could it be that a new nightime spectactular have NO Disney characters? Hopefully, the lack of any shown in the concept art is an indicator of this. Be still my beating heat if WDW could feature two shows (this and Illuminations) that don't feature the ever intrusive character branding that is in everything Disney does these days.

- As many have said, anything that forces Animal Kingdom to have nighttime hours is a plus. The park is unbelievably beautiful at night and is a real shame that so few people can experience it.

- From the concept art, it looks like the Tree of Life is going to be getting a lighting package up in the foilage. Hopefully, this will mean it will get a much needed refurb and they will strengthn the branches to hold those heavy LEDs they will be adding and this means those horrible nets will come down and they will open up the garden paths around the tree again.

The only downside I could potentially see from the new show is the potential to clear a bunch of foilage around the river to make more viewing areas. I definately don't want to have all the center paths to have a clear view to the ToL as that would ruin the ambience of Animal Kingdom.

Now... if we could just get the ball rolling on Hollywood Studios.

Good points.

I am very interested to see how the viewing areas are going to be arranged.

That puzzles me.
I've been told for years (by people who should know) that the WoC system wouldn't work in Discovery River due to water quality issues.

I wonder if that changed, or if they plan to do some major infrastructure work to that lake....
WoC basically needs pool quality water correct?

This was my concern as well. If this is going to be a show on the order of Fantasmic! there is going to need to be some major work to not only make a comparable size seating area, but making it blend into the feel of AK.

This new show doesn't have any fountains so perhaps there were some issues there? If they mount the water screens on moving platforms perhaps they can pump in the water from an outside source.

If you've ever stood by Paradise Bay at DCA, you'd be suprised by just how filthy the water is. Lots of oil residue from the flame throwers. When I take my DSLR down into the wet zone for WoC, the protective rain bag that goes over the camera has enough oil on it to stain the plastic and the lens filter I use needs multiple wipes to clean off each night. The good news is that my tripod legs do get a nice bit of lubricant on them though.

While the water is filtered, it is nowhere near pool quality.

From what I understand, the main issues with using the pumps and fountains are keeping small particles out of the nozzle. A natural waterway, like World Showcase Lagoon, would get too much setiment into them. The nozzles and pumps in Paradise Bay are permanent, so they have to sit in or under water all day and need treated filtered water to try to keep growth out of them. In theory, I would assume Disney could use the same pumps and fountains in Animal Kingdom if they bring them in on a barge and if they would pump water far enough away from the bottom to not pull up whatever nastiness is down there.

They will need to do something about the algea that grows in the river though.

As far as I know nobody has mentioned a specific location, but the area in the picture below looks like it could accommodate some seating. Also, the location of the Tree of Life in the concept art is consistent with this location.

algae eating bacteria?
they tested them in a lake in Mexico that was swamped with algae and lyrium(a type of invasive water plant), (which was killing all other life)

what if they installed some watching areas ON the water zone?
instead of cutting down the trees, they install some sort of viewing pier.

They COULD (and should) build faster. It's a matter of them wanting to spread the cost out over 5 years instead of say 2 or 3 years.

In my opinon, the nets around the ToL are a perfect microcosm of everything that is wrong with TDO these days. TDO knows there is a structural problem with the Tree of Life. Instead of fixing the issue, they apply a "temporary" fix by putting up all the nets and fences. Another example where show quality gets pushed aside for the budget. There is nothing inherently wrong with putting up the nets if they were there temporarily until a full refurb could be done; but, it has been years now. That is what is rotten in Orlando these days - temporary becomes permanent. Short term wins out of the long term.

I was being facitious earlier when I said "heavy LEDs" requiring the ToL to get refurbed. We all know that won't be the case as LEDs are lightweight. I'm sure TDO will put the refurb under the guise of reinforcing the ToL for the new show. If you believe that, then there is time share and wrist band they'd love to sell you too.

My fear is that the nets will stay and the paths around the Tree will remain closed as we know from history, once Disney taketh it rarely returneth.
