New nighttime show 'Rivers of Light' confirmed to be coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom

Realistically, the new nighttime entertainment will probably open around the same time as the Avatar stuff, which is likely at least 3 years away.

I don't know if that's true. I wouldn't be surprised to see the night time show and night safaris open in, say, 2016 so they could advertise it as "something new in WDW" that year. They have never given any date to the expected opening of the DAK night show.

I doubt 2016. The barge is testing and they've started to chop trees down near Nemo in preparation.

The new night entertainment sounds kind of lame to me after seeing what Diagon Alley is going to look like. I suppose if the nighttime spectacular show portion is as good as WoC it will be nice. I'm all for it if it keeps people out of the MK at night. This is just my opinion but I could really use less people at the MK at night.
Diagon Alley is going to have a nighttime show too? Are there any details on what the show will be like? Any links?

Oh I wish it was going to have a night show! but sorry I have no info on that. I have heard that Down Horizont Alley there will be live entertainment in one rumor, not sure if it was at night though. I was just speaking in general that the nite offering at AK sounded a bit lame to me personally when comparing it to how Daigon alley looks. I know its like comparing apples to oranges but these are the new offering coming soon so I compared them. Dancers and a street party with lanterns, not that exciting to me. A water show with lights sounds good and the safari at night sounds ok too. I was just writing AK night offerings didn't impress me much. sorry If I made it sound like there would be night entertainment in Diagon Alley.

Edit: oh sorry silly me, lol.

Im very sorry if you didn't like my post, I truly am. I will be more careful in the future I was just writing my opinion on the new offerings. It was truly how I felt. Now I feel bad, sorry. I will be more carful next time. I don't post here much but I was trying to post more this week. I was hoping posting my own opinions would not get people mad at me since they are just my opinions. I guess I was wrong.

Did you quote the wrong post here? I didn't dislike your post and it definitely didn't make me mad, I just misunderstood what you meant. No reason to feel bad. No worries. I agree with your opinion that the new Harry Potter stuff will be far superior to the nighttime stuff at AK.

There's no reason to feel bad, it's all opinions here. I just think comparing a fully realized, full scale version of London/Diagon Alley to ANYTHING other than another land (Carsland, FLE) is, like you said, comparing apples to oranges.

ok, Thanks I feel better now. I thought I made you mad. The last thing I want to do here is make people upset. But I do love Jimmy Thick (I think his name is) he seems to try to make people upset a lot of the time. I find his comments funny if you understand that he is always negative to anyone who is not 100% behind Disney. If you don't see him as being funny then he is quite upsetting I think.

I'm not a fan of Jimmy Thick, but I will defend him. I don't think he's 100% behind Disney on every little thing. Anyone who is 100% behind Disney is either not sane or on the mouse's payroll. Jimmy is neither. (Actually I don't know the later, but eh...) Jimmy tends to just not see the other sides of an argument, and some people are just like that. But to say he loves everything Disney does... I find that unlikely. Besides, everyone knows these days that Disney is far from perfect... you'd have to be living under a rock if you didn't notice the problems with the MyMagic+ rollout. They will get it eventually, it just will take some time.

As far as you, gonnichi, don't worry about apologizing here, we're all civil and willing to listen and accept everyone's opinion. That's what makes this site great. There is generally a lack of anyone censoring your opinion here, something that I find much more welcoming than what "certain" other sites do to create a "welcoming" atmosphere.

In other words, have fun!

The question is, is it worth keeping that park open longer hours just the night safari and night show? Will people just end up just going to the park later to stay into the night instead of going early and leaving early.

It's a very valid question and that's why it would be nice if TDO were also planning to open up a few smaller attractions along with the night show in the short term. i.e. some dark rides (like the possible Lion King one that Martin mentioned, but is apparently off the table) or flat rides -- stuff that could be built quickly to help "round out" the park and give people more things to do.

One of the problems with AK is that the lands are VERY specific. Its not like at Magic Kingdom where you have a generic Fantasyland or Adventureland which allows you to fit in all sorts of different ideas. Or at Epcot with Future World leaving you open to interpret that how you want. At AK its very specific in it being Africa or Asia or Dinosaurs and obviously thats continuing with Avatar. They would have been better to just have Beastly Kingdom area and put Avatar in it and then the area is open to have other characters or attractions in it that aren't related to a specific franchise. People keep saying to put in a Lion King dark ride, but if you already have the Festival of Lion King show, you want the other attraction to be a Lion King theme as well?

I don't think the lands being very specific matters. If green lit I'm sure the imagineers can come up with attractions/shows that are land specific. Having a Lion King dark ride would be a nice addition to the show. There is a Nemo show and Nemo ride also. Yes they are in different parks but having both is nice.

LM also now has a show and ride and Pirates too if you count that thing at DHS as a show.

You can have different executions using the same IP. The FOTLK is a spectacle with songs and show. A Lion King ride could be more focused on the animals of the African savannah and on the "circle of life" message of the movie and would be very different from the ride.

Also, DLR has two rides based on Dumbo and two based on Alice and Wonderland in close proximity to each other. No one seems to be bothered.
