Rumor New nighttime show at Epcot

Tests with lighting up the panels, in assorted ways.. using things mounted in the rain / access ways were done.

Replacing the WHOLE outside with LED panels, that could be on 24/7 so that content and color could be viewable at all times.
Costly as all get out and I don't see that kinda money being put out no matter HOW COOL IT WOULD BE!

Mounting it on just half of the structure would look more than ugly and I'd hope that common sense would prevent that.

Disney has ordered the installation of LED panels on the south face of Spaceship Earth, which will become part of the new World Showcase lagoon show, once Illuminations closes after next summer.

Partly true, partly false.

It’s on hold. It’s still a possibility but currently not expected to be needed.

If it’s like its expected to be I’d quite like to see it.

Project Spark is in active creative development that I've seen progress on as recently as last week with show elements for specifically Spark (not part of Kappa) being tested on the World Showcase Lagoon after park close.

This could be very wrong, but I thought the big advantage to LEDs is their insanely long life span, while projectors have bulbs they have to be replaced every few months, or even sooner with heavy use. But this still is odd, as other nighttime shows and entire attractions depend on projections. Maybe it's something to do with the texture of the surface? But they did that death star projection for rogue one.

The newer generation LEDs have over 20 years life span based on 3 hours of usage a day. The only real issue is heat dissipation but I guess it depends on how many they use and how good spaceship earth can move the heat from one side of it to another , the whole surface of it can act as a huge heatsink .

A lot has to be considered for projections: angles, distance, lumen decay, atmosphere distortion. I imagine the shape of spaceship earth makes it slightly a pain to project onto the very top. Doable, but you're going to increase the potential for glitches.

LEDs also provide different effects over projections. Projections are smooth and don't radiate light, where LEDs do.

Plot twist, they will add the leds to spam shows, times and ads for DVC.

According to the latest press release, we'll still have the Holiday tag running next year:
Bid a Fond Farewell to IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth – This nighttime spectacular of fireworks, special effects, flame torches and more includes a special holiday finale from Nov. 18 to Dec. 30. This will be the final holiday season for IllumiNations, as the show is scheduled to conclude at the end of summer 2019, with new thrills on World Showcase Lagoon set to debut immediately afterward.

Wasn't the current standing rumor October 1st/2nd for the new show? I guess they could run the tag in addition to the new show but if they didn't have the earth barge out there, I think it'd be awkward.
Edit: Please ignore. Me being dumb.

I’m not seeing where it says the holiday tag will return next year.

The earth globe isn’t a requirement for the tag. The current holiday show is actually a snippet of holiday illuminations that predates the earth globe.
