New Muppets Ride Rumor

Here is a link for those interested in info on the new Muppet Movie being written by Jason Segel and Nick Stoller.

http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/03/31/jason-segel-reveals-new-muppets-movie-details/

A google search for "jason segel muppet movie" gave me a ton of related hits....looks like I have some reading to catch up on!

While I'm excited about a possible Muppets comeback, I can't say I'm too enthused about the plot outline. The whole saving the theater thing sounds pretty borrowed from the "Very Merry Muppets Christmas" from a few years back. And the whole thing with the oil sounds like it might turn the story to a bit of a political side. I don't know, I guess we'll see what happens.

But I would love to see a Muppet Movie Ride. The concept is absolutly wonderful, and I'd also like to see the Gonzo's Pizza Resteraunt idea come to life.

I wonder if the recent removal of Jim Henson's name from the Muppet balloon and from the Muppet-Vision 3D entrance has anything to do with this new push?

From Screamscape:

While I haven’t heard an official story yet, I was given a good theory about why Jim Henson’s name has been removed from the attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. According to this older news article from when Disney purchased the Muppets, they simply bought the Muppets characters along with Bear and the Big Blue House from The Jim Henson Company back in 2004. It’s a common mistaken believe that Disney bought the entire company, but they did not. However part of that deal also included a four-year consulting contract with the Jim Henson Co., as well as a three-year production deal to make new films or TV shows. It’s thought that The Jim Henson Company may have even requested that Disney remove and stop using the Jim Henson name in an effort to clear up some of this confusion how that the consulting deal is over that they have cut their ties with Disney.
Meanwhile, just in time for the end earlier this year, Disney launched an all new version of the Muppets.com website that also has no mention of Jim Henson’s name (that I can see at least...). Not long afterwards, Disney also announced a deal with writer Jason Segel and helmer Nick Stoller to produce the next Muppet film for them by 2010.
Clearly Disney is taking ownership of the Muppets for this all new generation. It seems this is just the start of Disney’s efforts to ramp up public awareness of the Muppets all over again for their next big marketing push, which will include a new Christmas special to be broadcast on NBC this December. It’s taken a few years for Disney to figure out how to fit the Muppets in to the mix with the rest of the Disney characters, but it seems clear now that they have a plan and it is being put into action.

What a wonderful idea!!!! I love the muppets!! They can start with renovating Muppet Vision 3D. Then turning that whole area into a Muppets area. Like turn the Pizza Planet into a muppet themed resturant and than they can move Pizza Planet over to Pixar Place. Then they could have muppet meet and greats!!! Omg! I would love to have my picture taken with Kermit and Miss Piggy and Gonzo and Fozzy and Pepe!!!! (gotta love Pepe ok! he he ) Hopefully the new Muppet movie will spark interest in them again and that way Disney will actually pay attention to them.

On a side note (kind of). Disney really needs to stop with this theory of "If they like something, give them as much as we possibly can." I really really hope that HSM3 is the end of that mess and that Princess and the Frog can finally get disney to realize what is important. Yes I know they are a business and they do what makes them money. Ok Im done

I hate to burst your bubble, but HSM4 was being planned before HSM3 even started filming.:dazzle:

How about a new TV show where the Muppets run a school for the particularly gifted? That way it could be educational, and also hectic. Kind of like the original show was.

I'm all for the Muppet themed restaurant as well as the Muppet Great Movie Ride and new movie, as long as it has a similar "edge" to it like the original show did. Mayhem should rule supreme.

Avenue Q? I had the chance to see them in Tampa. it was howlingly funny- but not for the kids. REPEAT no kiddos!
But for those of us born on Sesame Street, and rocking out to Electric Mayhem, it was sidesplitting hilarity!

I would love to have a Muppets ride. I think that at this point Disney has already seen the viability that exists in the Muppets franchise, so the chances for a ride, or new tv show are great. I would definitely plan a trip just to see this addition in the parks.

In the NY Times article, it discusses FAO Schwarz building a "Muppet boutique" where you can build your own Muppet. Seems to me that would be ideal for the Downtown shopping expansion that is supposedly coming. They would get at least a couple hundred (or thousand :lookaroun) out of me because there would be no way I could resist building my own Muppets!

Why oh why would you want to build your own Muppet? Afterall, Ms. Piggy is already the model of perfection! :animwink:

I'm designing it in my head already...

Gonzo's nose....on Sam the Eagle's face...with Rowlf's ears...Fozzie's body...Kermit's arms and legs.

Off to photoshop! :lol::lookaroun

As a huge Muppet fan... I really wouldn't mind if they turned DHS into all Muppets, and only keeping the classics.

And for any other Muppet fans out there, here's a trivia question:

The Country Trio, from the Muppet Show, was based off of who?

That may be too easy, though...

To not give away my age here...lol....but Muppets and any Muppet show was my fav to watch on t.v. Remember Fraggle Rock? The Muppet Show was beyond hilarious and a not miss. We always always hit the Muppets Vision when we go to DHS. It never gets old. Watching the little kids try and pop those bubbles and hearing their giggles and ''ooohhhhhs'' is the highlight. It would be great if Disney would bring more of the Muppets to the park(s) in any manner.

I LOVED fraggle rock!!! The dozers....trash heap....uncle traveling matt!!! ahhhh, the memories!

Hi guys! I joined awhile back, and never really did much on the board. But, now that I have alot more time on my hands now, I am gonna get more involved around here. So, allow me to re-introduce myself! I am AREM. And I am a Disneyaholic.

This topic really got me fired up.

I think it is sad that the Muppet franchise has been allowed to go so downhill, to the point that hardly any kids that I know can name 4 or more Muppets. After Muppet's Wizard of Oz, which was only so so, they have yet to produce any form of seriously funny and/or classic Muppet magic.

I present Exibit A: Muppet's Christmas Carol.

Not only is this a Muppet movie at its finest, but it is the best, most faithful retelling of Christmas Carol EVER. See, Disney seems hellbent on holding onto the past, and not making any bold, new projects.

The Muppets I remember were bold, edgy, even a bit racy. They had edge. They had humor. REAL humor.

If they are having as many problems with relaunching the Muppets as I hear, then I beleive that a brand new ride at DHS would be a great shot in the arm. It would raise awairness for the franchise, and would have more promotional info than it would know what to do with.

Just a thought.

As I see it...who cares if kids don't know about the Muppets. Make them know about the Muppets by making a great movie or a great TV show or something of that nature to make people care. They are still great so you just have to showcase that greatness by making something Muppet-worthy in the now.

This is, and always will be, one of my favorite movies.

Linky no worky for me. Maybe I was just too lazy or cookie conscious to sign up, but I digress.

I saw that new American Express commercial that starts out with Jim Henson and has American Express commercial through the years in it. I thought to myself, "how relevant are the Muppets today?". That's reinforced by the kids who didn't want to watch the Muppet movies and first graders who don't know them.

I grew up on them, so I still have a fondness. They are FAR from mainstream these days and are on a back burner WAY, WAY back on the Disney stove. We adults, and I use that term loosely, still love them, but do/will our kids? Sure, Muppet Vision 3D is nice. But, does kids enjoying that neccessarilly make them Muppets fans? Not any more than HISTA makes kids run out to watch those movies and want to buy Rick Moranis t-shirts.

Having said all of that...I'm a fan of any proposed Muppets projects at the park(s). However I think that Disney will have to step up and push the Muppets on tv and movies/DVD to make it work. BTW, I think Disney needs to push ALOT of their "older" characters as well, from Mickey on down, to keep them relevant in this Pixar, Hanna Montana, HSM, Shrek, Dora, Sponge Bob world.

I agree with you on that... It's funny when you think about it... Have you ever noticed that it's always what the adults want brought back.. If it wasn't for the new stuff at the parks our children wouldnt want to go.. and then what excuse would we have to go play at WDW again... I was watching some Disneyland youtube video.. and I thought it was funny to see the three little pigs in the promo video... I mean.. who the heck are they.. haha :ROFLOL:

look at these

or this

what would we do if this was the park of today!!! :snore:

Everytime I see that credit card commercial I immedietely think of Muppetvision 3D. I would love to see more Muppets at the studios. It would bring back an old feeling, you know?
