New Monorail Fleet for WDW

I am always one to be super skeptical about any rumors I hear, but I happen to have a very reliable source for this new information!

A Monorail CM told me yesterday that he and the rest of the Monorail transport team were informed by their managers that the topic was discussed at length in a recent Transportation board meeting. Supposedly, the entire fleet is to be replaced, as the (now nearing) 30-year-old Mark VIs are becoming completely out-dated with regard to being able to find proper parts to make necessary repairs. Alledgedly, 24 brand new, custom trains will be replacing the current fleet. That's right, 24. Apparently, there was more discussion on connecting the two remaining parks. He also said that Epcot would become the new TTC, as it has the platform capacity space that the current TTC does not.

I was hoping someone might be able to at least confirm if this holds any water at all. As reliable as my source is, I'll still believe it when I see it. :p. I know very well how rumors can sound real when discussed among CMs.
I was talking to a Monorail CM on July 18th and he said that we should see new trains in 5-8 years and NOTHING about new tracks.

I just took this snapshot of the exposed monorail footer backstage east of Future World. New details can be seen. There's a hook in the middle and an obscure inscription on top. It looks like three letters but I can't make out what it says.

That's for a Spurline, WDW won't have a monorail go backstage with guests, especially since that I in front of the WDI Field office. It was discussed about this foundation years ago http://micechat.com/forums/walt-disney-world-resort/147657-new-monorail-pylons-being-built.html

It was for a spur that was supposed to be built in the early-mid 80's to WDW Village. The project was also supposed to include a new resort and shopping district with a New Orleans Square theme. The spur line, resort, and shopping district were axed some time after Eisner arrived in 1984 but construction was just about to start.

I disagree. I have always hoped all resorts and parks would someday be connected by the monorails.
I was once a stockholder myself. I don't understand why that would anger this stockholder. As a shareholder, especially those who plan on holding on to their shares long term, you would want that infrastructure projects like this happen, especially if it will be paid for by the quasi-government arm of the company - RCID. Reedy is supposed to take care of all infrastructure, including monorail, and they have the power to sell low-interest government bonds and set a tax to pay for it. An all-inclusive monorail transportation system saves money by not requiring bus service, is good for the environment, is an attraction in and of itself, and brings people to revenue generating locations, indirectly making revenue.

For a stockholder to say that they don't want the parks to be connected by monorail is sheer ignorance and short-sightedness.

This debate is as old as Disneyland itself is! Guess what side of the argument Walt was on? His belief in monorails and people movers was so strong by the time of his death that he had planned these two systems as the main method of getting around all of WDW (which included the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT - the city, etc.).

24 trains, like to see where they could put them all. Also they won't expand to the other gates, the costs far out way the benefits.

The WDW Master Plan, as conceived before Disney bought Lucas, did include monorail expansions (I discuss the plans in detail here - http://micechat.com/7930-disney-world-parks-monorails/ - note that the images used are reproductions I made using Google Maps).

The Master Plan is as much wishlist as it is actual plans that will come to fruition. It's a "what if" blueprint to keep things on track as new things are conceived, added, and built. It's a living document that gets updated all the time.

And yes, as of a couple of years ago, there was one such (wishlist?) plan to add monorail track. I have no info about it being put on the front-burner, but I wanted to point out that it's not impossible, given the Master Plan.

Why didn't you focus?
That's the most detail you're going to get now, which is more than before. Before, all you got was what appeared to be a big rectangular concrete structure and nothing else.

And believe me, I spent at least a couple of hours trying to get more focus at of it. I tilted it at every angle at different altitudes and that's the best I could get.

What kind of cheap camera do you have?

Just walk up to the thing and take a picture.

I thought that maybe the letters were "MAPO". If so, that would be good enough evidence that its for the monorail system. I also thought it could be the letters "TECO" - the electric company that inter-operates with the RCID. If it says TECO, then it is not monorail related and debunks the myth.
