New interactive game at MK? - Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom

Looks interesting but that doesn't explain the QR codes on the signs out and about, you need to read them with something. Clearly the one posted has a message on it and doesn't require any special application. Maybe its a combination of the cruise technology and something new. I really hope it brings more elements from the KP game to MK. Interacting with the environment was one of my favorite things about it. I don't want to ruin anything for anyone who hasn't done it but seeing the finale to the UK adventure was one of my favorites. I absolutely didn't expect that much of a result.

You should reread the original article in post 1. The QR code sign was from a test in Disneyland back in May. The article also states the Magic Kingdom game will not require the players to use a device.

My bad, I think thats a bit of a let down based on how fun the kimmunicator is. The cruise game seems interesting and the use of augmented reality markers is cool. What i really want to see is this game interacting with the enviornment just like at epcot.

Right, I wasn't very clear when referencing the QR codes and KP. The KP game doesn't use'em but I did see this:

It just looks like these signs MAY cause some theme issues; and I think they are not aesthetically pleasing...any where in polite society, not just Disney. But especially in Disney in my opinion.

I'm sure it's an easy solution to roll out the game on schedule and under budget utilizing existing technology. Use existing best-of-breed, proven tech/process but don't forget to "plus" it if the results are a bit off. Disney Imagineering is best when they innovate.
Hopefully the QR codes are just to make it easier/quicker to test. When they actually get around to implementing the game, there are a few different ways to go: something like the Leapfrog TAG, where there's a proprietary code printed too small to easily notice on top of something like a picture or story. There's also augmented reality, like Disneyland's Nightastic used or the WWoHP map thingy. I've never played Mickey's Mid-Ship Detective Agency, but whatever they do seems to be pretty non-intrusive as well.

All the talk of cards and codes and such made something occur to me. Do you think Disney may be looking into not only creating a new "attraction" to address capacity issues, but maybe also a new collectable merchandise craze like pins and vinylmation? Just go with me here, did any of you ever play Magic the Gathering or any other card trading game? Ok, imagine that kind of format, but applied to a tech heavy interactive game. You maybe would get a free/cheap starter pack of cards representing things like Disney heroes/heroines, enchanted items, and magic spells. Each card would have a QR code/RFID chip/something else that would allow the cards to interact with the game in a manner unique to the card. Then as you play the game, you would choose which items/characters to use to overcome challenges and defeat villains. Some choices would bring victory, others not (leading to another section of the quest to try again). The merchandising genius of this setup would be that the starter pack would only have a meager selection of possibilities, the truly powerful characters/spells/objects can only be bought/traded for. And new/rare ones could come out in a similar fashion to other collectables. What do you think? I can't imagine I was able to think this up rather quickly, and somehow Disney hasn't already considered it. It seems right up their ally.

I used to play Magic years ago, in fact a bunch of my friends and I would meet every 2 weeks or so to play in teams. Fun fun game. I think your game sounds like even more fun. I'd definitely play it!

I played as well, and then traded in that level of nerd-dom for my Disney fanatacism. I'm not sure what would happen if the two worlds collided.

I've never played the KP game in Epcot and I've wondered, about KP the this upcoming game, what is the replayability like? It it something that's really only interesting the first time you go through it?

Also, from having seen other people playing in Epcot and seeing some of the interactive stuff going off, will that ruin some of the surprise if I ever do play KP and could the same "spoilers" potentially happen with the new game?

It's a little like the new Star Tours where you won't do everything in a country the first time, but when you go back the second time, you'll have some stuff you've already seen mixed in with the new-to-you stuff.

You mean I might not get to say "danger is my cup of tea" to someone next time? I have been practicing Every day since our last trip.

PS Just noticed you are from and exceptional city, congrats on sharing it with me.

Looks like a similar technology (visually) to the Sleeping Beauty vignettes in the Castle at Disneyland.

Wonder how long it'll be before religious groups have a problem with the whole "casting spells" angle and whatever else... Like what happened with Harry Potter when it first came out.

I like the idea behind this game, but I'm a little bothered by the conspicuousness of the interactive elements, especially the speakers.

The Kim Possible stuff at Epcot seems more well-hidden to me.

I passed by a test of it in Adventureland today. It was one located in the shopping area near the main Adventureland restrooms. They waved the card and Kronk came on screen, said some lines, and then told them to proceed to the next destination which was Tortuga Tavern. Very cool stuff! I was excited to not only see that, but also see where else they had placed the interactive spots.
