I thought it was the other way around... That WED created the current fire effect, then the fire chief freaked out when he saw it because he thought it was real. Kind of a "pat yourself on the back" situation.

Possibly.. I am not sure.. I may have had the story twisted...

I'm a little surprised that (according to this) they're not updating the fire effect in the burning town at all.

Yes, it looks fine, but one would think that in 40 years something much more realistic could be put in there than lighting and blowing sheets... Digital projection or something? Who knows.

I just thought for sure that would be part of the update.

could it be the sky with the clouds you are thinking of because on the pirates web site they have a video clip with some updates they are doing. One of the updates was digital projection for the sky and clouds and moon I think.

Captain Jack, temporarily abandoning the mantle of command has struck out on his own to find the treasure.

And so, after a night of revelry and looting, we find Captain Jack victorious, enthroned in a vault full of gold and jewels, enjoying a drink and verse or two of the attraction's famous theme song and intoning "Drink up, lads, there is treasure enough for all!"

All information has been approved for release to Guests in anticipation of the Pirates of the Caribbean re-opening, tentative scheduled for July 7, 2006.

But if he wants the treasure for himself why does he then say that there is treasure for all???

Officially, Disneyland's POTC is scheduled to reopen to all guests on June 26th, following the premiere of the film at the park on the 24th.

Only WDW's POTC is scheduled to reopen to all guests on July 7th, the day the film opens.

Ah ha. I didn't think about that. June 26th isn't after the film's been opened, it's just after the premiere at disneyland. Thanks for pointing that out. =D

Kind of sucks for me though ;) I go to DL often but being stuck in Phoenix for school not as much. I'll be going to LA right before Pirates opens, going to WDW and missing DL's pirates opening by a few days, coming back from WDW a few days before its pirates open, but going back to phoenix without a chance to visit DL's pirates.. So basically i'll be in both parks within a week of each other and miss both new pirate versions =P

I'm not sure if I am for the changes to the ride. I love the movie and look forward to the next installments but I am surprised that so many rides are moving away from the original story ideas and following the movie themes (e.g., Haunted Mansion the movie). Disney is supposed to be all about story telling. I remember reading somewhere that the captain of the pirate ship from POTC was the husband of the bride in the HM and when she found out he was a pirate she hung herself? Isn't that the person hangin in the beginning of the HM? This is never mentioned in either movie or maybe it will be in future installments of POTC but it doesn't seem so yet. I love reading about and seeing how far the imagineers will take the ideas to the n'th degree even though most people don't appreciate or even recognize any of them. If it is all about selling knick-knacks it is sad to see when money and sales takes priority over quality and the values that brought this company to where it is today.

The Haunted Mansion hasn't seen movie-related changes, just new technologies and new show scenes..

Master Gracey is the person hanging.

Of course that's what I meant. New RCS, brand new software, new consoles, lots of fun that I can't discuss :)

The Haunted Mansion movie follows the background story of the ride and extends it, explaining why Gracey hung himself.

I really don't want a movie tie-in from Haunted Mansion- I mean, just imagine an Eddie Murphy audio-animatronic IN EVERY ROOM OF THE RIDE! Creepy isn't it.
