Of note: She doesn't exactly scream "Bride" like some of the previous incarnations.

Is it the lack of a bouquet? missing veil? It honestly reminds me of an animatronic Halloween decoration I saw at Party City. Not in execution of course, but stylistically, a design choice. Had to look it up, it's called "Rising Ghost Woman", how appropriately generic. There's definitely some similarities. Did we just go from one extreme (Constance) to the other?

Now I'm questioning if the new Ghost Bride is too understated? Did we just go from one extreme (Constance) to the other?
She’s in the dress, we pass several photos of her in a wedding dress, there’s a wedding cake, “Here Comes the Bride” is playing. I think it reads just fine.

I don’t mind them upgrading the figure, but I’m surprised that Constance was seemingly disliked on this forum. The comments I’ve been seeing elsewhere are people wondering why they changed the character of the bride.

Constance being disliked is hardly a new take, especially among Mansion fans and purists.

I found Constance to be far too cartoony for the attraction- the rest of the attic is ominous, but Constance felt almost like a parody. I do... I did

Her dress is more night gown than bridal gown.
Exactly.

It's an impressive effect but the choices to incorporate a candelabra and "one-eyed black cat" prop doesn't effectively convey that the character is a bride visually. Especially the gown. The primary indicators that this scene depicts a bride come from the obvious complementary decorations and overt musical cues, such as the presence of a wedding cake in the attic or the unmistakable bridal march music. In contrast, while not perfect, other Ghost Bride variations appeared more bridal in appearance. It's a choice that I don't quite get. This version incorporates new additions but visually loses a lot of what makes her, bridal.

Whereas the Black Widow bride spoon-fed us a story and visually-supported that narrative through character design this one just... exists. Oh and there's a cat to satisfy the "long-forgotten" fandom. Not bad mind you, it's a choice. I just think they could have done more with the character (or lack of)

It's perhaps too understated? It probably comes off like I'm picking this apart just to do so but I was so-looking forward to this. It doesn't satisfy as I had hoped. It's an improvement but otherwise uninteresting.

I'm not aware of any cemetery crypts in the hitchhiking ghost or little leota scenes unless you are implying they will add one.

I'd bet money it will be here:

You know....in a crypt....in a cemetery....

The new projection HHG look.. uhm.. well, I’m glad they aren’t “over the top”. But, their torso cut-offs are a bit distracting to me. The old Pepper’s Ghost effect seemed to “contour” better to the shape of the Doombuggy. I think these new projections desperately need some kind of “fading” to them towards the bottom of their torsos or some updates to better match the doors of the Doombuggies, because, well:

Yeah, the above images from the updated HHG’s look bad to me. The abrupt cut off towards the bottom of them is rough, it doesn’t sell the illusion as well as what was there before. Holiday doesn’t have this issue because all the “gifts” are fully realized and float above the safety bar.

For reference, here is what they looked like before:

IMG_4534.jpeg

They still cut off, yes, but the difference feels like night and day to me. The second set of images sells the illusion of someone sitting there better, I think. The first set FEELS like someone smacked a .JPG image over me.

Unrelated but also related, please tell me these plants are supposed to grow in. Because the “floating” tombstones outside in the queue look awful.

They couldn’t be bothered to bury them a bit to help them feel natural? Again, I REALLY hope those plants grow in to help conceal the bases of the tombstones at some point. Because this looks silly.. and not in a “Grim Grinning Ghost”, sort of way.

I think we lucked out. Bride looks good, although I would’ve liked her to have a 3D-sculpted head.

The stretching room lives another day! I think we may be out of the woods on this one hopefully, as no matter what Kim Irvine said, if there was a time to change it that time would’ve been over the past year. Fingers crossed they just forget about it. If it was that insensitive to them they wouldn’t have wasted a second removing the hanging man.

I like the candelabra in the graveyard. The projected ghost it replaced always looked a little cheesy to me. I was very aware I was looking at a piece of fabric with a fan blowing it.

The hitchhikers are a net-zero gain to me. They’re brighter now and their size is more proportional. I always thought Gus looked too big in the mirror compared to his size when we see him hitchhiking. Looks like they fixed that. The issue is the cut-off of the projection where the lap bar is. Very distracting especially looking at the doombuggy in the next mirror over. They could easily implement a fade or taper effect though like you can on any free photoshop app.

I understand why they didn’t add the pop-up ghosts back to the attic. They’re a little scary for the kids and a little cheesy for the adults. I was hoping though that they’d bring back the loud raven sounds from the pre-Constance attic. Those noises added some extra atmosphere

Right now we’re at….

Stretching Room untouched - Big W

New Bride - Lateral move to small W (the effect will probably take it over the top and help make up for the poor design)

Hitchhiking Ghosts - ???

Update:

Stretching Room untouched - Big W

New Bride - small W - still not crazy about her design/ face

Hitchhiking Ghosts - L 😔

Every new change is a downgrade or a mixed bag. I’m over it. Guess it could have been worse but the fact that they’re cut off at the waist like that is pretty awful. Not sure what the work around would be for this especially when looking at someone else’s mirror/ doom buggy from an angle. Wait! I have the perfect solution- you could have just left the damn thing alone! Even on your own ride vehicle It only works when the ride vehicles stay head on in front of the mirror. When they do that rock back and forth from left to right it kills the illusion and exposes that the ghosts are cut off at the waist.

I’ll also miss the more subdued realistic look of the original HHG’s. With that said they don’t look as bad or cartoony as I feared… at least on video.

If they could easily fix that with a fade or taper effect they need to do it asap! But then again why wouldn’t they have already done so? How could do they think this was good enough especially if an easy solution is available. Guess that checks out for modern WDI though.

I couldn’t tell, but the original seemed to be more transparent with a greenish glow, and these seem more one dimensional with a blueish, Force ghost tinge?

Yup. I’m not sure the greenish hue is any better than the blue. I think it’s just that the older ones not only seemed more three dimensional/ real ( because they are) but also not as bright due to the nature of the peppers ghost effect.

So there you have it folks. They did it better 56 years ago. Good stuff. Gotta love something being downgraded 56 years later! Yay to technology! Progress. Imagineering peaked years ago.
