I'd say 2-3 years away. There are two companies Disney is already approaching about it, and an advantage is, unlike other destinations, these self-driving vehicles will mostly be on a very short, familiar route, so it won't need to re-calculate a lot of things.
It's one thing for the vehicles to be driving on a private track or in exclusive ROW such as the tram paths within the parking lot.

There is a ton of regulation and other various issues surrounding getting them on the surface streets.

I'd love to see it in 2-3 years, but that's Elon Musk level of optimism.

Tesla plans to go full autonomous in certain areas of the country this year. As far as regulations are concerned, my guess is Disney has a leg up concerning the roads around the parks.

I wish you were accurate, but you're not.

They are still investigating and planning a cross country demonstration.

I understand Level 4 autonomy is just around the corner, but fully autonomous, driverless vehicles is Level 5, and absolutely no one is talking about that happening within 5 years.

It just is not the case.

It will come. Please do not get me wrong. But it's not this year. It's not next year. It is not 2019.

At least 2022 - 2025.

I wasn't talking about level 5 asleep at the wheel mode.

I used the wrong wording when I said full autonomous. I meant self driving with training wheels.

Also of note, they have begun cutting down the trees on the opposite side of the parking lot along century drive.

Photo update as of Thursday, June 15. This is the seldom used parking lot between the north end of Pop Century Resort, north of the bowling pin building, and the northern end of Art of Animation. Currently, there are temporary parking barriers (see left side of photo) around this parking area. The center of this photo shows the chain link fence rolls and construction scrim materials that will be installed around this area.

This photo is from Century Drive (the entrance road to Pop Century) viewing the berm used to obscure the parking lot. Some trees have been removed from this area, and from the opposite side of this photo which leads to the area across the lake from Trinidad South at the Caribbean Beach Resort. In other words, between two proposed stations for the future gondola transportation system. In the background is the northernmost building of Art of Animation.
