The weather downtime issue has been re-evaluated. There’s a possibility of a bare bones bus service to take up some of the slack given the realisation (!) the system will probably close down for several hours a day in the summer. Not the most elegant solution but better than nothing.
How on earth was that not considered before???
We spent pages discussing that very topic here.

I guess the bigger question is.. how many of them will go at full capacity? Or, does it really matter? At ski mountains, they typically require that every seat be filled. That means in the gondolas, a family of 9 could have 1 straggler. Usually not an issue for me because I like to talk to anyone, It is only an issue when I realize that the one straggler just finished a cigarette. Then again, maybe it isn't an issue if the window slats are open.

What is the maximum sustained wind that will see the gondola shut down?

Maybe they should pave under the gondolas so the Busses have a clear path to the parks., although that would only really work for Hollywood Studios.

Gotcha.
Well, just in the middle of the afternoon then more than likely.

The impact at DHS will be minimal, but IG will be quite the confusion from a guest perspective.
Oh that is a good point. Guests hurrying to the IG to get out of the rain and go back to their hotel, will have quite an unmagical experience when they are told, 'Nope, You need to walk to the front to get back to your hotel.'

It’s predicted to be longer than that given the safety radius.
Do you have a number on that safety radius? Wondering if its a WDW self-imposed radius, or a Florida law they have to comply with.

EDIT: Searching around, the closest number seems to be 15 miles. Unsure if WDW imposed or law.

I don't understand Disney's thinking on the character wraps. You had better believe that couples are going to be joining the 30-foot-high club inside of the gondolas. All the wraps will do is provide additional incentive.

With family members who have worked in the parks, and experienced these things first hand, I can tell you that couples have gone at it just about everywhere you can imagine. CMs have had to do everything from make PA announcements on Pirates of the Caribbean ("You know we can see you?!") to remove used condoms from the Swiss Family Treehouse (listening to bands wasn't the only things kids were doing on Grad Nights/Nights of Joy)!

Windows aren't the only thing you'll need to worry about Disney cleaning! 🤣
Heh.. Im assuming they will be keeping them pretty full but on the off chance they do run one empty that couple would have been just cruising the system all day and night hoping for an empty one. Guess I will make sure to have hand wipes just in case lol.

How long until they come to the realization that it gets hot in Florida and that they should install A/C? ;)

So...
Disney realizes that the idea of being in a gondola on a hot and humid day with several other people might be excessively uncomfortable?

They do. It’s not believed to be excessive. If the lengthy tests are wrong remains to be seen.
SETTING:
DIS C-Suite

RANDOM SUIT: Sir, we are getting our test reports back on the Skyliner and they aren't looking too hot.

BOB IGER: Skyliner?

RANDOM SUIT: Ah yes, sir, it's the new gondola system at Walt Disney World.

BOB IGER: Ok.

RANDOM SUIT: Well, you see, sir. The gondolas are getting a bit more hot and humid in the cabin then the initial models predicted. The tests really seem to suggest it could be quite uncomfortable for guests in the heat of July and August.

BOB IGER: It's not excessively uncomfortable, is it?

RANDOM SUIT: Um, uh, um, well, no. No sir, it's definitely not excessive.

BOB IGER: Carry on.

END SCENE.
