To be fair, they do have gondolas in Italy.

Also, my history many be a little fuzzy, but I believe they did have gondolas in colonial america as well. Isn't that what George Washington used to cross the Delaware???

I just don't see this as that big a deal. IMO, the huge GotG show building is much more obtrusive, and visible from many places around Epcot and approaching the entrance from the parking lot.

It isn't that bad now, but when operational it will be lined full of gondola cabs. Those will definitely be noticeable an eyesore.

I don't see them being all that concerned since there is another Gondola coming up only a few feet away. Eight if it instantly works out that way, six if a group of six happens to be next. Maybe the next is two people and the next group is 3, that is what will be riding that Gondola. They time it would take to sort out exact number would defeat the entire purpose. Most parts of the day, it will consist more of individual families because there is no need to crowd everyone into one cabin. I'm more then sure, it will work like clockwork and be a slick operation. Of this I have no doubt.
I was talking about the 8 person chair lift at a ski resort that somebody brought up, not the gondola at Disney.

Yea, because it will be far more gaudy then those highly artistic and sophisticated plastic bowling pins and yoyo's at POP. It's hard to get classier then that.

boy, i've been in some lines after the fireworks that seemed like there were 5000 in it
I know what you mean. I don’t get claustrophobic at all and I still get a heightened level of anxiety when in a mob of wall to wall people at close (especially at MK).

There are definitely times when >5000 people are leaving the park at once but they won’t all be getting on the gondolas. I have no idea what the breakdown is between on property and off but assuming 50/50 half the people are heading for a car. Of the half staying on property less than 25% will be staying at a gondola resorts. It probably breaks down to less than 10% of the total guests in the park that day. I have seen online somewhere that DHS has a max capacity of 65,000 (I’d hate to be in a park with 4 rides or even 6 now and that many people). Even at max capacity 6,500 is 10% of the total and not everyone will stay until park close post fireworks unless maybe on NYE or July 4th. I’d say it’s unlikely >5000 will be looking to board the gondolas at once on all but the super peak crowd days.

Rode a ski resort gondola for the first time in years (last time I was 9 years old and learning how to snowboard) and my group of seven friends actually fit quite comfortably in a cabin meant for eight people. However, me being 6' 2" and 220lb and fitting seven others with bags in an eight person gondola cabin might be an interesting task.

WDW's gondolas will be 10 seaters. Except for families or large groups that want to stay together, they'll likely be filled only to 8.

You're right, I really should stop assuming that people are talking about Disney's Skyliner in a Disney Skyliner thread.

You mean the "theming" at Pop which can't be seen from a theme park.
Look, I don't think the gondola's and towers in sightlines are that big of a deal either and I think this is going to be a fun and popular addition to the parks (plus anything that is an alternative to buses is a win to me). However, there is difference between tacky but intentional theming which is not out of place in its created environment versus an intrusion on sightlines that effects theming in a way that was not intended when the park was first built and which changes the intended perspective.
