News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

We knew this was coming, but it's annoying to see it confirmed. They really aren't thinking long term on this one. If people complain about the lack of AC, it may force Disney to add it at a later date, costing more money than it would have to put it in to start with, and it would also be terrible for DHS transportation to have the gondolas down.
...or the AC won’t be necessary and only those who have already decided it is going to be a problem will complain. Those people are a rounding error on overall guest survey responses :)

A Walt Disney World spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday that the gondolas would not have AC. The cabins were “specifically tailored to provide a comfortable ride for our guests in the Florida climate,” she said. The units will use cross-ventilation for sufficient air flow and reflective windows to prevent direct sunlight, she said.

While disappointing, it is pretty cool to read (in near real time) information worthy of updating Post #1. ;)

For what it's worth, I don't plan on complaining. That's not who I am. But I know that a lot of people probably will unless this ventilation system is state of the art and keeps the Florida heat out.

Top and bottom slats on the sides and the expected travel speed will make the inside fairly breezy...The motion of the car will generate breeze inside of it.

You’re joking.

If they are the same people that complain about standing at this bus stop, in the sun, for longer than a gondola trip; as they currently are, they will continue to be ignored by WDW.

Other than the temporary bus stations at DHS, all Disney Bus stops have some form of shelter and fans which guests can use to avoid standing out in the sun. Very much similar to the Gondola's passive cooling system. Only difference is once you get in the bus you get blasted with 60 degree A/C goodness for the rest of your trip.

"Specifically tailored."
In layman's terminology: Open windows and tinted glass.

Not all.

And even though shade and fans are present in the photo quoted, the queues which guests need to be standing in if they want to board the bus during peak times are unshaded.

As opposed to you having to queue up at the gondola station... The IG station for example doesn't have very much cover to it.

Haha. Fair point. :) However, I do think the gondolas will be an enhancement for guests. They could have just continued to run buses. People prefer non-bus transport options.

I don't disagree at all. This should transport guests from the resorts it services to Epcot and DHS in a much more timely manner, and more efficiently than via bus. I think overall it will be a win, but it will have to be in operation for a full 12 months before we know for sure how well it works in different seasons.

There are, yes, but when it's busy, guests queue up in the lines in the sun. They don't all sit back in the she and patiently keep track of who got there first.

Yes but the option is available to the guests. To make the comparison and say that all are alike it mischaracterizes the situation.
