News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

What really frustrates me about this is that you have to get off one line and walk to another line. There is no reason why the two stations at the bottom of the picture can't be all one line (unless of course I am completely wrong and it is all one line). There should be a digital input to tell your car where you want it to go. They should have built in transfer mechinisms throughout the entire line. How Disney would that be?
If you have all systems linked that is a drastically different order of difficulty to test and keep track of. With 3 separate systems you not only just worry about the spacing on gondolas on that one spool, but you don't have to count how many are in each section and try to guess which way to send the return gondolas when they come back. No major signaling system needed just to keep turning the big red wheel and no collisions to be had if everything is moving in the same direction.

Imagine it's a DHS extra magic hour and everybody is looking to get to TSL. If people from 3 different departing stations wanted the same terminal station, then they can't all efficiently get to the same place at the same time. It actually ends up being more efficient any time there is unbalanced traffic to have people get off to switch to the next line and get on the next available lift.

I've heard this suggested a few times and I know it is mostly made in a blue-sky Shangri-La spirit, but since this also means that everyone in the cabin has to mostly agree on where they want to go, right? Brava Centauri, Mesa Verde, or Sea Castle?

I don't see what the big deal is with transfers, especially as it probably also means less downtime for the system as I'm sure some bespoke system would have more problems.

And if, somehow, one single line is down for any reason whatsoever the other lines remain operable and it is easier to run busses for the one destination than for all of them.

Yeah, I see your point. I guess I was going for the "Disney can figure out something this technologically advanced" sort of route. I hadn't really thought about on and off time crowd flows. I guess the way it would have to happen is that some cars would have to go into temporary storage and be summoned when it was high flow to get people where they wanted to go. That being said, my idea would probably double the cost of the entire system if not more. I agree with you on this one.

No transfers aren't that big of a deal. I just thought about trying to advance gondolas like no one has. But, I thought if anyone could figure it out, Disney could.... and probably would if Walt were at the helm. Then again, we'd have more Monorails if he were around.

Speaking of the ropes themselves, Mickey Views just announced that the Speedway station that the Skyliner will be crossing over will be closed for a few days this week and he suspects it is because they are going to "test" the towers at night near the station to see if the ropes are okay and everything. And on a side note, what do TIG, THS, and TPD stand for? I'm guess IG is International Gateway and HS is Hollywood Studios, but what's PD

We'd also have People Movers!!!!

Or you wouldn't have to hide it, just make it whimsical and amusing. Each one could have a character interacting with the tower in some way. You could have Goofy climbing one with a pole lariat, etc. They could design it to replace the mountable ladder.

I like this idea! Kind of like they do on the cruise ships.

Imagine if the company had developed some kind of... people moving.... system to do just that...
