New Gillig Buses

Just shows that there are people who are as crazy about busses as a lot of people here are about Disney... :D
Thanks. I'm depressed now. I feel like a bus/train/plabne spotter now. :oops:

The nasty thing about being an obsessive fan is that eventually you will encounter rabid fans of other interests. Very confrontational. God, did I really turn into a closet trainspotter? Help!

Back in my day we figured out our bus destination by the little flag on the side...

Really like the new buses' look — the old ones looked like the '90s exploded all over them.

I know I was there during the "flag" system, but we always stayed off site and drove ourselves around property when I was growing up (80s through mid 90s), so I don't have any actual memories of them.

Well, for one thing I think I remember there was a bus (red flag???) which ran a Transportation & Ticket Center to Epcot to the Disney Village Marketplace route (no bus transportation at the MK back then). We used it at park closing and then walked next door to the Vacation Villas.

Imagine that - a bus from the parks to the Marketplace. Hmm...

I take it we are moving from this to the new bus design ? Sometome tell me I am correct in this thought pattern ? These busses had the lower floors IIRC and were very roomy. {and thanks to one driver when it got COLD this past January, very WARM AND COMFY, I think the guys name was Dave.. not sure though, I barely remember the bus numbers as it is!}

Even so, I like this version the best, however the new version as stated by @FireChiefGoofy does indeed go by the driver uniforms and I for one like the look. However I do not like the squared off design, the rounded front was indeed... aheh.... cuter and actually felt more Disney like to me. Straight boxed corner design reminds me far too much of downtown Hong Kong

NOTE: I rode on three busses that were rather high up in the air, {three steps to get into the thing! no wheelchair or motor scooter ramps!!} and severely cramped! Tell me THOSE are the buses getting replaced yes ?

Yes, those are the OLD RTS style busses. They are being phased out.
Oh good, thank you very much for the quick reply, I am still wondering if the bus image above is also getting phased out ? are we still keeping the Nova designed buses ? last I recall those too had the wider entry doors. They were squareish IIRC

Where do the old busses go? Lynx? Bought by hotels for shuttles? (Bus heaven, eventually, I'm sure...but in the meantime...)

Enquiring Minds want to know.

I believe the photo above is the old style bus, with the steps up into the cabin. Perhaps not. But yes, the NEW buses are going to be the ones with the square front, wide body, and entry doors at floor level - just like the photo in the OP.

I'm guessing their paint will be stripped and they'll be sold as used, or scrapped for parts.
