New Frozen Show replacing Aladdin at DCA

Well, the petition has certainly gotten more signatures than Maelstrom did.

Behold the power of the Southern California Annual Passholder.

If it's at 12,000 signatures, that's the same people that see the Aladdin show in one day at a busy time of year when they do six shows.

It's also roughly the amount of people that ride Pirates of the Caribbean in five hours.

In short, it's a drop in the ocean compared to the 25 Million people who visit the Disneyland Resort every year. If the petition can get to a few hundred thousand signatures I think it might elicit a public response from Disney, although I doubt it could stop the show from closing in January. If anything, TDA might be trying to roll out a quick release of Aladdin musical merchandise to sell to the fans this Christmas before it closes.

More than ever it's still a park about California and attendance numbers are through the roof.

Hmmm... I wouldn't say that. The original DCA had way more "correct" California references than it does now (now California is completely fantasized)... The California theme is stretched. Also, I wouldn't say attendance is "through the roof." Universal Studios Hollywood was slightly less than two million behind DCA in terms of attendance last year, and not only is USH way smaller than DCA, it has way less attractions, too. DCA is doing much better than when it first opened, but its attendance numbers aren't that impressive, in my opinion.

Forgive me for being ignorant, but what does 'BLAST!' stand for?

BLAST! is actually shorthand for "The Power of BLAST!" which was the show in the Hyperion Theater back in 2002.

When Steps In Time debuted in February, 2001 and immediately fell very flat with audiences in a park that was falling flat all over the place, they revamped Steps In Time in Spring, 2001. But that didn't help either. So after the summer of '01 they closed Steps In Time and went outside Disney to find a temporary show to fill the Hyperion Theater. This was generally a time of mild panic in TDA and Burbank as nothing they did seemed to fix the horrible mess that was DCA Circa 2001. They tried bringing back the Electrical Parade from the dead, they tried letting kids in for free (seriously), they tried ticketing gimmicks and massive commercial campaigns, anything short of offering free churros.

Back in the early 2000's there was a popular Broadway show called BLAST!, which was a very hip and modern take on marching bands and drum corps and flag girls. The Power of BLAST! used performers from the Broadway company in a 30 minute condensed version of the show. The big hit number was a performance of Bolero that I distinctly remember bringing the half-full Hyperion Theater to its feet in 2002.

The BLAST! show only lasted a year, and reportedly there was quite a lot of backstage drama and haughtiness from the Disneyland Entertainment team because The Power Of BLAST! was wildly popular with the modest crowds in DCA circa '02 but it wasn't Disney. It wasn't a Disney production, but it was darn good and many of us still remember it very fondly. I really wish they had gone that route of putting Broadway spin-offs into that theater every two years instead of installing Aladdin and then letting it sit for over a decade with the Genie doing "topical" pop-culture jokes from the Britney Spears era to the Kardashian era.

And it still sits right next door to Disbeyland to boot. That's a lot of people that just walk past and never consider taking the short walk between the two.

I just thought it was kind of funny to point out, but this may be the first attraction being removed from DCA out of many that people are actually going to miss.

I really have no problem with them ending Aladdin's run...it really is time for something new in the Hyperion. Frozen, meh, not really my cup of tea but I kinda laugh at these petitions as they will accomplish nothing as history has pretty much shown. This will be immensely popular whether those that have been Frozen out want it there or not. The funny thing is that many of the vocal haters (not pointing fingers at anyone here...think social media) will be the first ones there when Disney has an AP or press preview...they hate it so much that they have to be first in line.

I wish a Tangled show would go in instead, I love me some Flynn Rider! Anyway, the Aladdin show was good but a new show will be good too. The Frozen musical has got to be better than the sing-a-long that is at DCA. I have seen all the Frozen sing-a-longs (not really because I have Frozen fever but because it is something new to experience) in three different parks: WDW, DL, and Disneyland Paris. The Paris show was the best it didn't rely totally on just showing movie clips there was a lot of singing and dancing with actual performers and they even brought Olaf out on stage. It was more of a show.

I know I'm not serious; I'm sure that those evil executives will ignore the fan's cries of outrage and put in another cash-grab replacing a beloved classic.

By the way, how many supporters would it take to save the show?
Is this about saving the show or keeping Frozen out? The show does not need saving and needed to be replaced after a 10 year run. It's ridiculous that Disney, with so much IP, has kept the show around for so long especially with such a high % of AP's making up their attendance. Yes it was popular, I love it, but time to move on. I personally find this petition stuff ridiculous...you want to make an impact, stop spending your dollars there. But Disney fans won't, they complain but keep on going. This show will be packed every single day, Disney knows it and doesn't care about a fairly vocal minority that has complained about pretty much every change to the park in the last decade.

If fans of Frozen want to watch the story they could watch the movie. Why does it need to be regurgitated in another medium?
Because it's still very popular. So by your standards, should we never have a ride based on a Disney IP? They are in fact being regurgitated in another medium as you say...albeit an abbreviated version in most cases. Aladdin was a regurgitation...a great majority of the live shows at Disney parks are like this. I have a feeling that if this were anything but Frozen, most folks would be ok with it.

Why not severely limit IP? Nobody would say that the Studios needs to be more "Disney" and only forever do remakes and sequels.
