New Film for Soarin' and Potential 3rd Theater

Those are interesting time periods. Dark for MK, but like the current Soarin' showing DL, lighting can be arranged or manipulated given the right film/digital. It's a good weekend to film with the end of the Easter crowds and Spring Break still going on, so lots of potential people..... except the 5:30 to midday shoot on a Monday. With WS not opening until 11am, Epcot will be mostly dead. More architecture than crowd scenes? Also, it's still dark at 5:30 this time of year, will there be early morning fireworks/Illuminations for the flyover?

Curiouser and curiouser...

Also, @Scuttle (or other pilots on the forum), what are the FAA regs for flying low over WDW. If they want to fly low for promotional purposes, can they ask the FAA for a waiver? Or since they own the property, do they just do it? I assume they still have to honor a certain distance AGL if there are people below.

Regs are nothing below 3,000, buuuut it's not as strict as you might think. I've been given clearance before to fly below 3,000 on different occasions and I've also flown an extended final approach into Kissimmee Gateway before and you'll also see airplanes flying around the lagoon/MK area nearly everyday below 3,000. ATC usually will grant the final request. As to them asking for a waiver I really don't know the answer. The Flight Restriction is a federal restriction, so I really don't think it matters if they own the land or not, but I could be wrong.

I do find this hilarious if they have to jump through hoops and get a waiver to shoot there because for years TDO requested a flight restriction and the FAA wouldn't oblige until 9/11 and now they have to get a waiver(assumption). Lmao.

I'd think Disney would wait until Summer crowds die down a bit to announce this. Let Mine Train have it's time. They could wait until January even, potentially. It's all depending on WHEN next year they want it open. They announced TT2.0 in January 2012, it closed in April and then opened in December the same year. I wouldn't be surprised to see them follow something similar for Soarin'.

Perhaps they are starting at 5:30 am to get an idea of what shots might work. Then taking the full, useable shots for the new film as the parks open.
