New Film for Soarin' and Potential 3rd Theater

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Why do people refer to him as Puddy when he is more famous for like 20 other roles before Puddy?
Because Seinfeld made such an impression on an entire generation.
It is one of the few comedies of that time that still holds up to repeated viewings.

His most recent role was as Jeff on Rules of Engagement, but he will always be "Puddy" to millions of us.

Off topic a little - is there any word...or rumor...of them filming other scenes for a totally new film? Here in Washington, D.C. this weekend I watched a commercial helicopter with a large film setup doing a pattern that started over the Potomac, flew over the Roosevelt Bridge past the Kennedy Center, Watergate, over Georgetown, then climb and hover over the city facing the National Mall (White House, Capital Building, Smithsonian Institution buildings, etc). It was, roughly, the same basic pattern that the Tahoe scene is from the current Soarin film.

It was a great weekend for it. Beautiful weather, cherry blossoms still out, whole city in bloom but not too dense like it is in the summer. The helicopter did the same pattern a number of times.

We watch helicopter filming take place all the time here in DC, and this rig was much larger than normal (which made me think iMax format).

That's interesting to hear. Hopefully it was for the new film. Does anyone know if filming for locations is still on-going? I'd personally like to see them do random sequences, if that's at all possible, like they do for Star Tours. You could "travel" to many different places, but man the lines for it would be insane (though to me that means Epcot needs a bit more to do).

Good catch. :) According to MiceChat, the new Soarin film will have a much broader, global focus, so the film could very well include some DC footage.

Thanks. It is probably in no way related... For the sake of the rumored new film, it would be beautiful footage if it were for Soarin 2.0.

The fact that most people refer to him as Puddy pretty much proves that he in fact not more famous for anything else. He may well have had 20 more substantial roles, but they didn't bring him the fame that Puddy did.
He's one of the most famous voice actors. He is noteworthy for Joe on Family Guy, Brock on The Venture Bros, Kronk on Emperor's New Groove/school, and a host of others. If people don't recognize his face, they know his voice.

Absolutely. Yet, as you noted, his is known to more people as "Puddy" than anything else.

Regs are nothing below 3,000, buuuut it's not as strict as you might think. I've been given clearance before to fly below 3,000 on different occasions and I've also flown an extended final approach into Kissimmee Gateway before and you'll also see airplanes flying around the lagoon/MK area nearly everyday below 3,000. ATC usually will grant the final request. As to them asking for a waiver I really don't know the answer. The Flight Restriction is a federal restriction, so I really don't think it matters if they own the land or not, but I could be wrong.

I do find this hilarious if they have to jump through hoops and get a waiver to shoot there because for years TDO requested a flight restriction and the FAA wouldn't oblige until 9/11 and now they have to get a waiver(assumption). Lmao.

It will be interesting to see if the assumption by totalorlando is correct by the use of 'drone' types of devices for flyovers?
If Disney really want some 'wow factors' for Soarin, the close up 'buzz by' effect that these things create would be amazing on a big simulator screen!

Some breathtaking video from a quad copter, admittedly a bit slower than Soarin, but I guess it shows some kind of idea on what can be done?

Helicopter was flying very low and circling the MK during Celebrate the Magic last night. I read elsewhere filming was scheduled for this weekend.

This would be epic. While a lot of it wouldn't fit in the framework of Soarin' (a hang glider) I think the footage possible with such devices should definitely not be discounted. And Hollywood's got the serious gear.

My only concern is what kind of load capacity do those have?

It's one thing to strap a little GoPro to one, it's another thing to even try an IMAX camera (let alone two of them if they are indeed going 3D).

Edit: Wikipedia says that an IMAX 3D camera weighs in at ~249 pounds... Since that's more than I weigh and I don't see a drone lifting me in the air, I'm going to say no to the drone...
