New Fantasyland - Phases

From what's been going around...:
- Pixie Hollow, as advertised in the concept art and D23, will not be happening. (the oversized meet and greet and possible ride, located either adjacent to the Mermaid or across from the Barnstormer). The Pixies will be represented somewhere else in Fantasyland, however, but where, I'm not sure. Wherever, it won't be on the scale of Pixie Hollow (which was essentially oversized flowers and gardens). No depiction of Pixie Hollow is on the current construction walls.

- The tent facades around Small World and Peter Pan's Flight were refurbished and staying. The Winnie the Pooh-area tents will be removed (presumably including Pooh's Thotful Spot). Earlier on, a clock tower above Mrs. Pott's Cupboard was refurbished to add a thatched roof to help blend in with the new area. It remains to be seen whether the tents above Mickey's PhillarMagic and Snow White's Scary Adventures will remain.

- The only parts of Toontown not being demolished are the tents and Barnstormer coaster. The Barnstormer will be re-themed and re-named to "The Great Goofini". The tents will eventually be re-purposed as meet and greet areas. Donald's Boat, Pete's Garage restrooms, Mickey and Minnie's Houses, and Toon Park are all being demolished. The Toontown Fair railroad station will be refurbished and restrooms will be added to the side of it.

- The Speedway is staying. The final curve will be shaved a tiny bit to accomodate the new Dueling Dumbos located adjacent to it. The modification will be seemingly un-noticeable by Guests.

The tents are staying!?! I heard (around here) they were the first things going. Didn't everybody say they were rotting and long overdue to be destroyed!?!

Are you saying that the Big Top is going to be made up of the existing Toon Town Fair tents and that meet and greets are going here instead of the Dumbo queue?

No.
The tent that will house the Dumbo queue will be a new construction, located between Barnstormer and Speedway.

Still trying to pin down exactly what's up with the tents.
Best I can say right now is that they will be seeing substantial renovations.
Looking for better info...

That was my response in one of the other threads also. Apparently reports of the tents' demise were premature and their deterioration exagggerated (??)

Regardless, it seems everyone is upbeat that this will all look good and the whole thing will be much different in the end. Still seems like slapping lipstick on a pig to me but I am trying to be open minded too.

I can tell you from site surveys, parts of the tents are dry rotted. Don't stand in certain places when it's raining outside. I think the idea is to see what can be salvaged.

That sounds more likely. I had heard several years ago that the tents were rotted, I guess I'm surprised they've stayed around this long. Does anyone know what they're made of?

Thanks for the clarification. I have never spent much time in the before and don't anticipate that changing in the future but I guess time will tell.

I'm not exactly sure, but they seem to be standard canvas tents. They might have a special coating.

as cool as all this is gonna be and I for one am very anxious to get on here, a big piece of me says a lagoon should still be there along with 20000 leagues :-( I never got to see it, but I've done a lot of research on it and boy do I wish it was still there. Something just doesn't seem right not having it anymore. It SO could've been repurposed, specially that show building. IT WAS HUGE!! oh well, I know the next part of Fantasyland will be awesome anyways! :)

Uh so they decide to demolish Mickey's house, yet keep the tents? I just don't get this...:brick:

It was a great attraction, but I am glad that it is gone and what could happen with this expansion of FL could be much better than ever!! We just have to hope that the money keeps flowing and this expansion will be spectacular.

A couple of tidbits about 20K. How many people including me complaing about the Indy speedway and the smell of exhaust fumes. Well 20k was by far worse with the diesel fumes. Some days if the wind was just right or no wind at all you thought you were going to suffocate standing in line waiting. The capacity per hour was horrible. The load and unload was slow and torturous. If you were first on, it seemed like forever to get out of the sub when unloading. They also seemed hot stuffy and smelly in the subs. The waits for 20K were always rediculously long, mainly because of the slow loading and unloading. I always felt sorry for the CM's working that attraction

With that said I still loved it and it will always be in my memory. It was the absolute first ride I every was on at WDW besides the bus from my resort. :D

I was just comparing Bing aerial photos of MTTF to this photo of the original Mickey's Birthdayland:

http://www.lostepcot.com/images/blarea.jpg

I never realized these are no longer the original 1988 temporary tents (which looked like they could have been off-the-shelf tents for weddings or something)

When were they replaced? And was it a complete top-to-bottom replacement, or just new roofs on the existing tent structure? (And while I'm asking questions, why did they rebuild Mickey's House? Was that a complete rebuild or just a new roof?)

If the circular walls are still stable, I see no harm in replacing the tent roofs (or simply re-covering them with a new fabric, as long as the mildew inside is removed). It seems like a no-brainer to keep the tents since they were building a Dumbo area anyway.

The fact that cooler heads stepped in and saved money so it could be spent elsewhere should be applauded. It would have been a waste to tear down that merchandise and M&G area only to build new merchandise and M&G areas (and no other attractions). Imagine the outrage if they had axed TLM so they could needlessly level and rebuild Pinnochio Village Haus restaurant. I don't have a problem with them sparing those tent buildings if it means additions instead of replacements.

As long as people happily accept half-measures then the more Disney will be happy to provide them.

That said, so far the FLE seems top notch but we will have to wait to see what was changed to really know for sure.

It would make a lot of sense to build a new merchandise location while County Bounty is open, then just move everything outt inn the third shift. That way, you can demo the tents while constantly maintaining profit from the second most profitable MK merch locale.
