New Enhancements, Dining Options Coming to Disney’s BoardWalk

and they are umbrellas...not some grand thought-out thematic addition... oh, red and white stripes...ground-breaking. The Carousel Coffee Shop literally looks like any bland mid-range motel USA. WHY is following their own legacy so difficult for them now... It doesn't have to be an E ticket, but at least follow the theme of the hotel, and/or the name of the shop... and one photograph of a carousel doesn't quite work...especially with the mid-mod light fixtures and wallpaper... in the 1940s Boardwalk themed hotel. It is just ridiculous. This is NOT why we spent crazy sums of money to stay there and to be DVC members... Boo!

If people have to look to umbrellas in order to celebrate "a win" or something being "on-theme", you need to re-think things.

Seeing more pics, that coffee shop looks like it was mostly lifted from a hospital or Generic Chain Hotel, USA.

Do I have this correct, the coffee shop replaced the former sundries shop where DVC members could get "groceries"?

I'm wondering if the coffee shop will get further touch ups down the road. Seems like they like this approach now where they open a bit more bare and then add in things later on

As a DVC owner whose home resort is the Boardwalk, I am very happy with the umbrellas. There were few covered places to eat along the Boardwalk area, which made it unpleasant. This is an improvement. The Sundries shop was next to the check in area, it didn’t really carry groceries, but it did have snacks, drinks, some Boardwalk themed merchandise, toiletries items and such. The main gift shop with groceries is located on the Boardwalk itself.

The like was for the main gift shop info. The rest we’ll have to agree to disagree (even though we admittedly don’t own at BWV), as this feels like putting lipstick on a pig to me. I’ve never understood what the appeal of the actual boardwalk is. Like you said, there’s few places to sit and eat. Few options (the last time I was there) for grab and go. Entertainment was sparse and mainly after dark. 🤷‍♂️

I think this one is a bit beyond being saved some additions. But you are likely right, there will be a few more touches to come.
Easy peasy...

highly doubtful...that is what people said about The Riviera Resort and The Enchanted Rose lounge...and they are what they are... I am sure that is what is planned for this as well... nothing.
In general, we have been feeling like the bloom is off the rose for quite a while... this continued devolution of theme and all things that made WDW special and unique are having a toll... we are considering selling off our DVC and have already made fewer trips there... It feels sad to me.
I guess the saddest part is knowing there will always be people cheering them on to more mediocrity, and applauding their removal of theme and design.

Did people actually say that about the Enchanted Rose? It's not spartan or anything, just ill-fitting.

For the Riviera, on the other hand, I could see where that idea would come from. The first floor and roof exteriors are fine, but the massive span of bland stucco in between is the real problem, not to mention the plain awnings and shutters. They might have something serviceable if they just made the lobby building and tower fully stone while setting the west wing, east wing, Toppolino's tower, and western annex in contrasting colors of *gasp* the Riviera. Would probably look more fitting from Caribbean Beach too.

Photo update as of January 11, 2023. Continued demolition of the ESPN Club at Disney's Boardwalk resort. The exterior of the original building appears to be on the way to a full demolition. While not visible in the below photos, the ground floor interior of the octagonal building is fully demolished.

A large opening is visible at the original entrance to the ESPN Club.

A detail from the opening at the original entrance shows the interior fully demolished.
