New effects in The Haunted Mansion

I'm just praying nobody changes their mind and decides to make any of this permanent. I find it rather cheesy and I don't like the recent trend in rides of making everything with projector screens and 3D glasses. I think there's more brilliance in what Imagineers accomplish in real-world effects, sets, and AA technology.

Yep, the old puppets-on-sticks was so high tech.

I never said they were high tech. Very little of HM can be considered "high-tech", even when it was new (except maybe the AA's). My point was that it doesn't have to be. I get tired of everything being computer generated and I find something with an actual physical presence more effective than a cheap, flat computer creation. When I ride FJ at WWoHP, I find the AA dragon far scarier than the projection of him on the screens.

I can't believe that people are complaining that Disney actually spent some time and money to on a temporary effect. You all do know that they could have just spend five minutes and put up the curtain and left you looking at a blank wall? Give them some credit where it is due.

^ I have to agree, this is better than nothing folks, and as it has been said this is temporary. I actually find this to be good for what it is, an effort to keep the same sort of idea alive during an upgrade that is relatively effective.

i couldn't agree more. i haven't seen it in person yet but it certainly looks like the effort was made.

I think that it looks pretty good, especially considering that it's temporary. Honestly, some people would throw a hissy fit if one of the Jungle Cruise gorillas started parting his hair differently.

For a temporary effect, I would have liked to have some "Space Mountain" style cameras shooting footage for some fake mirrors to get real-time footage, then layer the ghost animation on top of the people. I mean, it'd be temporary, but it'd suit the finale a little better.

Honestly, I'm just glad that they did SOMETHING instead of the normal tarp and blank wall or cardboard cutout. And I sorta like the design of the temp ghosts!

Oh my god, the complaining woman in that video has me cracking up!

It does look pretty stupid though. Good thing its temporary. I still question what was wrong with the old effect though. Why does everything have to be A PROJECTOR??

Why would they need projectors? The effect is perfect the way it is and the fact that it doesn't use projectors is pretty incredible.
The effect is perfect? Yeah, if this was 1969. The hitchhiking ghost effect can be plussed in soooooo many ways... it is far from perfect.

As for the moron in the video... I have little respect for someone's opinions when they say "I don't like this new thing I've seen for 3 seconds, I am never riding this again."

Exactly. I mean, they could have just thrown up cardboard cutout ghosts with strobe lights....

Can't really tell in the video but when the 3 ghosts are standing there with their thumbs in the wind is that also a projection?
Just the same nice they put something nice together in the interim.

Agreed...this is many times better then what they did to the 5th dimension scene in Tower of Terror during Summer Nightastic. I'm actually rather impressed they did take the time, however little or much it took, to make CGI versions of the characters and the small expense of the projectors for a temporary effect that sounds like it might last only a month or two. *gives TDO pat on the back*

When did the gorilla start parting his hair?
