New Disneyland Parking Garage and Transportation Hub

Ah, remember when we used to talk about this stuff back in 2015? Good times...

From one of my posts in that thread:

A couple of quick observations, in no real order.
  • The HKS drawing shows the proposed sky bridge taking up roughly half (the north half) of the existing structure.
  • Google Maps earth view shows it contains mechanical equipment. It would need to be relocated / removed.
  • I took a quick field trip there yesterday. The only open businesses on the upper level are Johnny Rockets and Fire+Ice.
  • There does seem to be active construction for the Toby Keith's I Heart This Bar and Grill.
  • (That name has always bugged me.)
  • There appears to at least be prep for demo in the old theater location (future HOB).
  • The two plots to either side of the fire station are still dirt and weeds.
  • On a positive note, nobody will need to be displaced to run that sky bridge straight into the courtyard.
  • Positive note 2: their generous 1st hour of free parking was double what I needed to do a couple laps of looking around.
The entries in bold are applicable here. Where the drawn-up sky bridge would terminate at AGW is existing retail space. What I was eluding to was that everything in that area was empty. if AGW wanted to work with the new hotel, they could reconfigure the space to allow an interior walkway.
Oh barf. Toby Keith has a restaurant???

The funny thing is even though all these sub-forums are on the same server and domain, one would think they're as far apart as their subject parks. More than once I've seen people in the "Walt Disney World" section speculating, or asking blind questions about Disneyland when that info is readily available right here. It's an odd phenomenon.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with that. I don't bother responding to those people lol.

No, it failed to open. Darkbeer just let us know earlier in this thread that they had money problems, reneged on their contract, and the GardenWalk owners got to keep some of the equipment already installed before they walked away.

And I will raise your barf and see you a double-barf. That Toby Keith I Love This Bar & Grill (seriously, that was going to be the name) concept would have gone absolutely nowhere in SoCal, especially Orange County. I used to watch Hee-Haw occasionally, but even I have my limit.

DB - you will find this site to be the best environment for Disney chat on the web.. regardless if its DLR or WDW.. because of the way the owner operates it. This site doesn't have the build up of some of the old tipsters other sites had.. but its not some fantasyland nor dead space. The owner here allows all points of view as long as people keep it civil.. he even seems to have a soft spot for some that I would argue are persistent trolls vs legit commentary.. but what you won't find here is whitewashing and mandates on what you must think.

Agreed. At its best, this DLR forum can be like a fun adults-only cocktail party with sparkling and informed conversation about Disneyland. If there are little kids or teens here who have very little personal point of reference for anything, they must be very well behaved because I can't tell.

Are you always so fancy?

You guys may be fancy, but I'm the guy in jeans sneaking out to the backyard with my one hitter.

Where can I find this? Obviously new to the site. :)

OK, the big three I worked for was MiceAge (Al Lutz asked me to come over from MousePlanet shortly after he left MousePlanet), of course MosuePlanet, and Jim Hill Media, using my main writing name, David Michael.

Here is an easy link to three hopefully fun "way back" reads from Jim Hill Media.

I also have provided photos and writings at other websites, and then even broke a story on AP (McDonald's closing at Disneyland).

Ironic, I am still on George Lopez's invite list, though I haven't seen him in quite awhile.

So there is a start of my history.

Also, I saw recently that the MouseInfo forum pages are still available online from before DCA opened in 2001, where there are the infamous Marcie vs Darkbeer debates, Marcie was a TDA PR CM who would try to spin higher and faster than anyone has ever been...

So welcome to this site, hopefully we should get some good info from the city's Staff Reports when they are hopefully released next week for the public planning commission hearing. So I don't think this thread or I will be leaving anytime soon. Already have scheduled to be at the actual Planning Commission Hearing when it is held.

Happy Labor Day weekend to all, and talking about traffic issues, it is a Marathon weekend at Disneyland this weekend...

Just to add, the standard lease allows the owners to keep anything built and attached to the property, so a restaurant that is leaving can take all their supplies, the registers, pots, pans, etc. Also tables and chairs (unless they are booths built into the side of the wall.)

This is why in general, restaurant "pads" remain restaurants, as a lot of infrastructure, such as vent hoods, gas and power lines, and lots of infrastructure, such as a bar stay with the owner.

Of course, that is if they get out in time, some locations just "bail" and run away since they can't make the rent (close and take what they can in one night). Anything left the landlord can keep to offset money owed.

So that is why the AGW location Toby Keith's was working on will more than likely remain some sort of large restaurant/bar concept. AGW has some enticement to draw someone with some of the needed expenses already paid for (including some of the building permits to allow the vent hoods for example). If it needs to be converted, usually the landlord has to pick up the costs of demolition to return it to a straight "empty box" space to be rented out. So cheaper for them to just hand over the equipment as part of the new lease.

Let me just say, there are reasons for this madness, whether you agree with it or not, it is a choice the current owners/management has made.

They made the pivot a few years ago when they switched their model to be a content aggregate and their measure of success was clicks and blog comments. They intentionally made moves to try to boost the front page at the expense of other mediums. They choked their own child hoping it would boost the other. They failed to refresh when large parts of their core locals audience 'aged out' and their interests shifted.. instead holding onto the same power circle regardless of their actual interest level in the site or community. The only people they did let in, were people they knew they could keep in a corner and never empowered them. All while blatantly denying it all the whole time. Telling people 'forums are dead...' and basically threatening anyone who tried to question the moves. The shift in how people 'find' news is clear.. but that doesn't mean all online communities have shifted to facebook newsfeed.

Add onto that the mandated 'smile all the time' and respect every opinion, even if its a stupid, mantra... policed by people not even active.. is what put the nail in their coffin. Sure they'll get people to show up at their events... but they peaked years ago and will never recover because they've shifted to people consuming their product because its Disney, instead of people consuming Micechat/Age. When the next upstart has a sweeter offer... they'll be left in the dust because they lost their core value.

They were arrogant... and frankly, wrong about the shifts in online ecosystem and they've done it to themselves.. so I won't bat an eye when they fade away.
