New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

This isn't a "maybe." I just came back from a 13 day trip. We consistently tapped in 1-1.5 hours past expiration time over multiple days, in part to test to see if this was accurate, in part because our plans needed to be adjusted based upon exhaustion of our children. (Disney isn't just tough for the disabled). The 15 minute grace period is dead. It's now a 2 hour grace period. They could change it back I suppose, but it's definitely a 2 hour grace period right now, so 3 hours total.
That’s great to hear! I hope they keep it that way as it will be helpful to some.

Except that from Disney's perspective, waiting for your DAS time in a shop or quiet area is you waiting in a standby line. It's why time you must wait is roughly equivalent to the the current standby wait.

Preventing the DAS user from also using the LL would be seen as discriminatory because able-bodied people are able to avoid some standby lines by using the LL, so a disabled guest should be able to avoid their version of a standby line by using the LL service.
Oh there’s no doubt Disney LOVES this…for the reason you say and others. They’re hitting them with the dutch door

A history lesson: the entire reason for fast pass in the first place was to get you into the shop more. That was it. And it worked

Every mongrelized “revision” since that version has gotten farther away from that.

I think most of us would agree it isn't fair for a DAS user to ride another ride (either via standby or LL redemption) while holding a DAS return time. As a standby guest is unable to ride another ride while waiting in the standby queue.

However, to prevent DAS users from entering standby would either require everyone in standby to Tap in or facial recognition software and cameras at each Standby entrance (not feasible or not worth the investment)

It would be relatively easy/cheap to not allow someone to redeem a LL, while holding a DAS return time. However, this could impact LL sales (why would Disney want to do this).

Lol, you must have been absent from the first 50,000 posts in this thread because many people iwould argue that it is their god-given right as an American under the ADA to ride one ride while waiting for their DAS time to be up for a second ride.
Yes, optimizing touring plans to maximize this was the main focus of many DAS groups before the change. It was only after the change that the party line became that DAS is a bare bones accommodation, not even that great, really, so why can't everyone have it?

I think most people argued that 1) it was within Disney's rules (explicitly stated on the website that DAS users can enjoy other attractions) and 2) it was not feasible to stop it.

I don't think I saw many people arguing that it was fair.

Exactly.

I have no issue whatsoever with DAS users buying LL and holding a DAS return time & an LL at the same time, as that's really no different than me waiting in line while I have an LL return time.

My issue is with DAS users being able to ride other attractions while they wait for their DAS return time, but I also realize that Disney allows - even encourages - it, so out of my hands.

It’s not

Standing in a standby is what you must do to get on that ride

A DAS and lightning lane does not require that commitment. That party can go into another line or do other things that actually gives them “time” in their day…for the same prices. It is an imbalance.

We'll just agree to disagree - a person with DAS IS doing the standby time, they're just doing it outside the line. What difference does it make if they have an LL time as well?

I give up today

A das is basically a virtual queue into the LL…a LL is a prebooked reservation time

Neither require using the standby in the traditional sense.

Good evening, all…carry on

Sometimes I think people completely forget that DAS is for a very small group of people with specific disabilities.

Some of the more recent posts commenting on it are treating it as an alternative way of touring the parks.
I agree. This new enteration of DAS fits that description. IMO prior to the change, there were many that probably didn't need DAS but could use an alternative like they are doing now. Many used DAS as an alternative to Genie+ cause it was free.

True. But there are many who needed DAS and even more to have anything close to a normal experience. Hopefully those people are still getting it.
