To TDO World Showcase is just a mall, and apprently they want to expand on that with the addition of a dvc. If that goes through. If only Imagineering had their way and made the choices instead.

Map7711,
Yea, but that looks like old info. Isreal, Africa and especially Spain don't have the resources to support a pavilion here.

You won't see a new pavilion in a long time.

Might as well go back to the dream of Germany opening the Rhine River ride.....

But, certainly an interesting read though

Actually, I think they would need to go back and revise the concepts fort that ride - after all it was a truly West German attraction that was planned that avoided showing anything from East Germany. The cruise was planned to show Rhine, Ruhr, Isar and Tauber. I think after German re-unification in 1990 it would be odd if not something from the East would be included as well, especially a scene from Berlin (river: Spree).

Btw, interesting fact: Rhine, Ruhr and Tauber are on the other side of the European Watershed than the Isar. The first three drain into the North Sea, the Isar into the Black Sea (which is connected to the Mediterranean Sea). And I think until they finally finished the Rhine-Main-Danube-Canal there was no way to reach the one river system from the other by ship without going all the way around Spain and Portugal. Hmmm. Maybe that was more than anyone on here ever wanted to know about German rivers...

No offense meant, that is an interesting tidbit about spelling of Hercules, but why would it at all be relevant to where they placed a Hercules meet and greet? The Disney movie clearly placed them in Greece and most of the world associates the story of Hercules with Greece Disney never exactly has been one for historical accuracy...see Pocahontas as an example of that. The only things they got right was that there was a person named Pocahontas, a person named John Smith, and a person named Ratcliffe and that it took place while establishing Jamestown. Everything else was basically nonsense. Not that I still didn't enjoy it... ;)

Also, yay!!! 200 posts for me!

Also, could you elaborate on why Disney would have to be so careful when it came to putting Greece in? Yes Italy had a lot of Greek influence, but still, they are very different, different histories, arts, ect. I'd love to see a mini Acropolis put in. And I would totally watch a movie about ancient Greece...they could even talk about how the influenced Italy! It's sad this is all hypothetical and Greece is so broke I think there is about as much a chance as North Korea going into the world showcase as there is Greece.

Wait, you're saying Grandmother Willow wasn't real? What about Flit and Meeko? They were historically accurate, right?

Haha...shockingly...No. Sorry to disappoint you ;) Though that wasn't exactly what I meant. Like, for instance, Pocahontas was much younger than she was portrayed. I wish Grandmother Willow had been real though...I think we could have some good conversations after I got over the initial shock of a tree talking to me. ;)

I'd like to see Thailand, Greece (could do some sort of mythology ride), and Ireland

I also think they should add to the America pavilion.

I too fall into the category of people who want to see attractions/rides in each country. Honestly, aside from looking at some of the decor in some countries, there isn't really much to keep me there more than say 5-10 minutes. If you aren't eating in that country, and not shopping, there's just not much.

Agreed. And you don't need a ride for every country, the shows are entertaining.

I agree that there doesn't need to be a ride for every country though I think more rides would be nice. But they need to update all the movies of they want to keep them remotely relevant. Watching a film from the 80s doesn't exactly draw a ceowd

Haha. I'm not Canadian but I'll take your word for it that it was fun to make fun of the hat. :) In general though, some of those films could really use updates. They are nice but nearly 30 year old films about the countries just aren't that relevant. So much has happened in 30 years. I'd love to see where "countries are now"

I am not sure you would - I just saw the French film for the first time last October and I know France quite well as I have been on vacation there very often. At first I did not even notice that it was an old film (even though I knew theoretically, but we had just before seen the updated Canada film) because of the fantastic quality it has now. And then it was about three scenes which I thought were odd - those were mainly related to people's fashion or when you see cars (especially those parked underneath the Eiffel tower). I think people aren't interested in seeing French modern architecture (even though the modern version of the Arc de Triomphe is quite fascinating) - they want to see the quaint, the old. And to be honest, I think in many ways a scene filmed in a European town in 1980 might transport that better than if you film it now, where you can see the Starbucks, McDonald etc signs on the facades...

Hmm, maybe I'm just odd then...or they should just have the films then mainly focus on some of the more "timeless" things in those countries. Man wouldn't I like a film on the Louvre for France. Then again, that's just me. Some of the films hold up better than others. I haven't watched the French film in a while but I think most of Norway's film...you can just tell it's so outdated it takes you right out of what you are trying to watch.

They have... China in 03 and Canada in 07. France is 30 years old though and Spirit 24.

After I posted I thought that I should have clarified that I was more talking about a general "you" than meaning you - Bubbles - personally. :)

I think we might think about the films differently because of which we did see last. I had seen Norway some years ago - and I would agree that it needs updating, but mainly because it is focussing on relatively "new" stuff with the oil industry etc. But last trip I saw China, Canada and France. Since the first two are already updated I actually really enjoyed France a lot for being so timeless. I thought it was a bit odd that China was showing so much high rise buildings with neon on them. I understand that the country wants to showcase its modern side as well. But unfortunately it is so generic. Those scenes could be from the US, Brazil or South Korea. I think these films always will be a tiny fraction of what the country is and the modern stuff is not the most unique unfortunately.

Overall, I think it would be wonderful if it were possible to transport an image that goes beyond the typical stereotypes at the World Showcase. But it just isn't realistic. And for what it is trying to acchieve I think it does an amzingly excellent job (even if my own country - Germany - is reduced to more or less only one rather small area of the whole).

:( I keep hoping for some actual new country news someday... this thread title is false advertising :D

But isn't that the case with about half the threads on here? ;) Like the one about there being no timeframe about the Yeti being fixed that is called "The Yeti is indeed being fixed" - this one at least has a question mark at the end! :D

Agreed, but the OP did forget to mention (or overlooked) that the Screamscape rumor he was quoting was over a year old.....

Well the best indication that something isn't really true is either using ?!?!? or it is not linked on the main page. This is the rumors section.

"Screamscape announced rumors of a new country at Epcot." Quaint punctuation aside, also mentioning the fact Screamscape announced the rumor in 2011 might be a little pertinent....
