looks like their maybe a type of "peoplemover" or moving walk way connecting you from the tower to the main tower.

Hopefully this will be DVC. I really want this to be DVC!

COME ON DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! LISTEN TO WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok good news and bad news. First the good news. My heart stopped when I read your title as I thought they were replacing Mary Blair's wonderful mural in the concourse. Now the bad news. This design totally looks out of place next to the wonderful A-frame of the contemporary. It would be an ok hotel in its own right but there is nothing elegant about it compared to the wonderful original contemporary design.

Big thumbs down from me. I'm not even certain its better than the North Wing which was there before. They certainly didn't look contemporary in any way so I wasn't upset to hear they were leaving (in fact they looked like a bad Motel 6 to me) but at least they were understated and didn't take away from the grandeur of the Contemporary. This just seems to be a garish half circle rising in the air and attempting to distract attention away from the design of the main hotel.

Looks fantastic, but they'll have to touch up the old Contempo because it certainly looks its age next to that. If they re-painted it in the same lighter shade it would look better, although its dated, angular design clashes quite a bit with the new tower, IMO.

I wonder if there'll be a new rooftop restaurant a la California Grill. The new tower looks even taller, so the views of Wishes may be even cooler.

So this new building is exclusively DVC?

The only thing I agree about in your post is that they clash with each other. However I disagree with everything else. The A frame is a classy timeless design that feels contemporary but slightly futuristic at the same time. The new North wing just feels, as someone else put better than me, like any old condo building out there. There is nothing classy or timeless about it, and certainly nothing forward looking as the contemporary was meant to be.

That looks . . . like it shouldn't be near the Contemporary. Why can't they just design another A-frame style or boxy building? It looks awful.

The design looks as if I have seen it before, not something that is one of a kind. This might not be the final design, but just one of many ideas. It looks very much like condos you can see by the beach.

This is disappointing to some of us who have stayed at the Comtemporary almost every year since it opened in 1971.

The new tower does overshadow the older one. Considering that the Contemporary used to be THE premiere deluxe hotel at WDW, it's a shame that it is now a shadow of what it used to be, and will become a shadow to the newer tower. Unfortunately, the Contemp's downfall started whe, the GF was built.

That being said, I stayed at the North GW in 2005 and it was badly in need or repair/refurb. The hallyway carpet was the same one from 1971, the A/C didn't work anywhere in the building, and everything we touched in our room seemed to fall apart. I guess this new tower is the reason why the NGW did not get any TLC.

The reasons why the Contemporary was considered so contemporary in 1971 was that the a-frame allowed the monorail to drive through the building, and the fact that the rooms were completed at a separate location, moved to WDW, lifted on a crane, and slid into place. That, in itself, is pretty cool, but I guess instead of doing that again, it's easier (and cheaper) to do an on-site refurb of the rooms.

Even though I now stay at the BC, the Contemporary will always have a special place in my heart. It's where I spent almost every summer (and my honeymoon) from 1971 till 2005, Viva le Contemporary!

Hmmm, I think the cyndrical form sort of complements the geometric theme of the concourse. The newness of the tower is going to overshadow the old building no matter what. Will be interesting to see how it actually fits in to the landscape of the lagoon/MK area

Eh...the Contemporary has always been my least favorite of the Deluxe Resorts, and this certainly neither improves nor damages my opinion of the complex. It'll certainly have nice views, though.

I agree with what some of the above posters said. It only looks like a "Contemporaryified" Miami beach resort. I wouldn't say its terrible, but its nothing exciting at all. The views will be nice I guess... but still...
