New Center Stage at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Who says it is going to be ugly?

I just mean that..why tear down one thing that blocks the view of the Chinese Theater if they are just going to put up something else? Before the hat, was there a stage there? Many people were upset that the view of the building was obscured and were happy the hat came down. So now why do the same thing again?

We don't know that it will block the theater. It's a stage: by definition a flat object. It could be very short.

Any stage needs rigging for lights and such, but we don't yet know what form that will take or how concealed it will be. So it's a wait-and-see thing.

There is a stage in front of Cinderella's Castle, I wouldn't describe that as blocking the view of the castle.

Also at least now it will be a stage in front of the theatre. Not a stage in front of a hat, in front of a theatre.

The stage is unlikely to block the view. Just like the castle stage does not block the view of the castle.

The stage in front of the hat was horrible. It was a metal cube that sat in front of the hat, which was in front of the theater and caused so much congestion. Pretty sure Disney has learned its lesson from doing that.

I'm hoping the stage will be like the castle stage (themed) and Fountain of Nation stage (non-intrusive).

As discussed, the Epcot stage is flawed. Hopefully DHS will get something more sympathetic.

The temporary DHS stage was just that. Temporary. As the disdain in the company for the hat grew, as the parks larger problems did too, the stage and roof was left up as long as possible between removals.[/QUOTE]

Both the Castle and FoN are elevated, unlike the Chinese Theatre, so any stage will certainly impact the view. Let's just hope it's a five-foot high stage, not one with an enormous roof.

Why does Epcot even have that stage? It almost never has anything going on.

There used to be a lot more on that stage. Without all the garbage in the center of FW, the fountain is the focal point, and the stage was used for various shows throughout the day.

The stage was originally built for SPLASHTACULAR in the 1990s. The show was a ill fitting character fest that used the FoN as a backdrop. Crowds built up for the show, restricted guest flow, and they cancelled the show. The stage was left there. And now they use it for Xmas entertainment and NYE.

there will be a stage, but it will be 'different'.. what I meant by 'think of it like "The Hub"' is that Center Stage will be the reference point of the center of the park..

Will this be the first piece of work in the DHS redevelopment (and the standard of workmanship we should expect for the rest) or just a project that is happening shortly before a DHS redo?

I remember Splashtacular. I was like 7. It is astonishing that that ugly stage remains two decades later. Just build a temp stage for Christmas. The stage blocks a bunch of the water sprayers (I'm sure there is a better term) in the FoN, which should be reason enough for its removal.
