New Anna/Elsa standby procedure?

You simply cannot do that.

You can't tell a day guest that shows up that they had to book a reservation six months ago to meet the most popular characters at Disney.
If Disney wanted they could set it up where the old Standby capacity is not released until the day-of and even make it so one must be in the park.

so let me get this straight we are going from a fast pass plus system ....... and adding paper fast passes again.... any one else smell the crazy in this plan lol....and no one can line up ... so people will now lineup for paper fast passes.
Here is a fresh idea why not fill more meet and greets with anna and elsa... put them in a utilidor if you have to.... put them back in Norway..... shove them in front of expedition Everest.. and underneath the big hat in Hollywood studios....you easily could put more then one room of anna and elsa in the magic kingdom...
I love that idea! They have multiple ride systems for many major attractions. Why not have a split somewhere in the queue where each line goes off to meet a different "Anna and Elsa"?

In my opinion, I don't like Disney taking away the standby option and here's why.

But by taking the standby queue away, I feel that Disney is now taking that choice away from me. With this new approach, I may arrive at the attraction mid-day and find that there are no standby passes/times available at all. So basically, Disney is preventing me from experiencing that attraction at all that day even though in my example it's only mid-day and I may have chosen to wait standby for it.

I'm not a Disney basher by any means...actually quite the opposite because I'm a DVC member and an AP holder...so yes I drank the Koolaid in huge gulps...but I feel like this is a "take away" and not a "value add".

I agree with your logic and decision making process on whether to wait or not, but I think this is a special situation that they had to address, but I don't necessarily agree that this is a "take away". Waiting in line for 3-5 hours isn't good for the guest or Disney. This is a workable solution for the problem. I don't think it's the "best solution", but it works for now. Perhaps given a little time they can integrate it with MDE, which may help make the process a little smoother.

I think it's a "take away" when a guest doesn't even have the option to experience something they really wanted to, as will happen this afternoon when the passes are gone and a parent has to tell their child that they can't see Anna and Elsa

So basically the lines will now be divided into FP+ and FP-, yes?

The biggest issue (if I understand this correctly) is that once the paper FP-s run out, there's no longer a standby option to wait in? You can't CHOOSE to wait in a long line anymore? Well, I guess that's what happens when people go to GR to complain about the long lines. "Well, if people are so miserable waiting hours in line, then we'll just take that misery away by not letting them wait at all! Suckers."

But how many hours will the line be to get these passes? Could a guest get 4-5 tickets and then go sell then to some desperate ticket-less family for hundreds of dollars a pop?

Disney keeps trying to reinvent the wheel here. Just let people wait in the dang line...

I can just image the meeting this was thought up in:
Ok, people not using FP+ are stuck in line and not spending money.
Let's eliminate the line and have return tickets with times on them on fancy paper and FP+.
Now they have to go spend money while they're waiting.
*backslapping and high fives all around*

What's ALSO gonna suck about this is the people returning for their standby time who think it's actually a FP.
"Yes, that's for the standby line."
"No, but I have my FP right here. See? It's a paper ticket like FPs have always been."
"No, FP is the new standby. You're behind the times, old man. Now you have to wait in line to get a ticket to wait for your return time to wait your turn. It's the latest and greatest in making sure you don't wait."
"Why didn't I just get in the standby earlier then? Instead of all this ticket nonsense?"
"Oh, we don't allow that. We can't allow you to wait that long. You either get to wait to NOT wait, or your just don't get to wait at all. But you're very lucky. There are only so few people allowed to wait in this magical line. It's truly a privilege to wait to not wait."
:hilarious:

that is hilarious to read.. but I cant imagine how infuriating would be for those poor victims.
