Negative Changes at Le Cellier?

I am greatly anticipating my July trip to WDW, but am starting to hear some disturbing comments about my favorite restaurant at Disney- Le Cellier at Canada in Epcot. The new chef has been making changes, and some are saying for the worse. Can I get some feedback from those who have eaten here recently? Thanks for your help...

We haven't eaten there, but I have seen the new menu, and I was disappointed with some of the items left off and some of the items that are on the menu and what they are served with. Thankfully, the cheese soup and the Chocolate on Chocolate Whiskey Cake is still on the menu.

Not really recent as I am not sure when a change was made, but over Thanksgiving week 2007, we had 3 non buffet dinners. Our order of enjoyment is as follows: 1) The Brown Derby, 2) Shutters, 3) Le Cellier. Steaks were average at best and they messed up my kids order not once, not twice, but three times. "We said NO GRAVY!!!"

Soup was good though :slurp:

I just went and looked. They changed the filet! I loved the filet with barbeque sauce. I don't like mushrooms, so this is bad for me.

I believe the Mushroom filet was there on the previous menu too. Perhaps if you ask for it the BBQ way they will still be able to accommodate you.

The food has been consistently terrific there for years. And it was on a recent visit as well.

Some rather vocal online whiners have been ripping the place for all sorts of reasons, but I can honestly say that Le Cellier is one of the few Epcot locations that is absolutely worth every penny.

Good eatin!

Menus change all the time. People complained when the rice was taken away and replaced with scalloped potatoes at 'Ohana. Now people are complaining that the potatoes are gone and the rice is back.
Each new chef wants to make his mark so they tweak the menu.
As long as the cheese soup and pretzel bread remain I will be happy. It took us years to get in there so if people stop going maybe I can get back sometime soon. :lookaroun

Yeah, it was there before. I did some research and found that the new chef will not give you the BBQ filet or the cream cheese mashed potatoes. Very disappointed.

My wife heard about changes to her favorite Filet Mignion- she is not happy. Do they still have the 4 less common Canadian beers besides Labatt's? I also heard that my Beef Soup bowl is now a cup- oh well.
Thanks for all of the responses!

Actually when I was at Ohana on 3/24, the potatoes had been replaced with a peanut noodle dish. I personally preferred the fried rice over both the potato and noodle sides, but it seems like the potato dish was very popular.

Menu changes at Le Cellier don't sound that bad. The restaurant is always so packed that we don't bother going to it anymore, but I remember that the food is overall quite good and a menu change won't ruin it.

Can someone explain why Le Cellier is so popular. While I enjoy a filet as much as the next person, the menu doesn't seem like it would be that appealing to the masses. Being a picky eater, I wouldn't even touch any of the side dishes, and the way some of you are talking about the negative changes, it doesn't sound like they'd let you substitute anything either. Just curious.

Personally, what I like best about Le Cellier is the service and ambiance. The food is very good, yes; but a big part of the appeal for me is that it simply feels like a world away from the crowded promenade outside.

In terms a being a picky eater: I am a vegan, and no entrees on the menu are vegan as-is - however each trip they have been able to make a nice meal for me upon arrival.

Also, last October when we were there for my parents' anniversary - after just mentioning it to the servers, the meal was ended with a beautiful celebratory chocolate mousse cup and card signed by the staff. Just a lovely experience!

I ate there (Lunch) last May for my birthday. I had the fillet mignon with cream cheese mashed potatoes. I'm just about the single pickiest eater on the planet but it was meat and potatoes, so really, what's so odd about that?

Now, if they wouldn't let you have the creamed cheese potatoes anymore, I think I might throw down because they were SO GOOD (we've even taken to making them that way at home) but at least when I ate there, the food was superb and very picky-eater friendly. It would indeed be sad if it changed to something less open for a broad range of people to enjoy.

I've eaten twice at Le Cellier with my family. The first time was great, food was excellent, our server(who bore a striking resemblance to Harry Potter) was very attentive and everything was perfect. The second time, we saw our server when he took our order and didn't see him again until he brought over the check. It took 45 minutes for our food to arrive, we never got refills for our drinks(which were done before the food ever came out) and we felt like we were being ignored the entire time. Needless to say, we really didn't leave much of a tip for that one and haven't bothered going back since.

It certainly seems its easier to eat in the Castle, than Le Cellier these days!

You're absolutely right, it is!!

Ate at LC once to say I did last year, liked it, but was not crazy enough about it to want to do it again. I like the chicken sandwich that was on the previous menu and now it's gone. Just like the Ahi with wasabi mashed potatoes being taken off the Coral Reef Menu. I'm not in love with either new menu now and won't be gone back to either place anytime soon.

Hope everyone who has LC ADRs enjoys though! To each their own, I say..cause I'm thrilled to have two Ohana reservations on two different days during our 11 day, 10 night stay this year! :sohappy:

Even though the cream cheese mashed potatoes are on the current menu?

Good question. Someone posted on another board that they were unable to get them with the Mushroom filet. I posted without thinking about it. Probably more to that story we don't know about. I'm still sad about the BBQ filet.

I am too. :( But if I could get those potatoes with any other steak I would be satisfied. :)
