Negative Changes at Le Cellier?

I make a point of booking Le Cellier every trip. I call exactly 180 days out and even then occasionally have to adjust my preferred dining time. It's popular because it's good, simple as that.

In my experience, we get treated like visiting royalty every time we're there. I even have had servers who remembered me from previous visits :D. The worst complaint I've ever had was a server who told some of the worst [as in not-funny] jokes I've ever heard, but his service more than made up for the suffering!

The food has been consistently top-notch in preparation and presentation, on par with some of the finest restaurants here in Canada and the service has been exemplary every time we've eaten there [about ten times since 2001].

Menu changes only affect me in that they give me different choices of excellent food.

Can someone explain why Le Cellier is so popular. While I enjoy a filet as much as the next person, the menu doesn't seem like it would be that appealing to the masses. Being a picky eater, I wouldn't even touch any of the side dishes, and the way some of you are talking about the negative changes, it doesn't sound like they'd let you substitute anything either. Just curious.

First, there really isn't anything (other than burgers and fries, cheese pizza, mac'n'cheese and chicken fingers) that is more basic than a slab of beef.

So, a steakhouse is naturally going to be popular. And Le Cellier has a much-deserved reputation as excelling in what it does.

As for being picky, WDW in my experience has loads of guests with the palates of poorly bred 6-year-olds, so I can't imagine anything on Le Cellier's menu being that far out.

And if a risotto or anything green scares you, rest assured, this is WDW and they will gladly toss some fries on your plate instead.

I had read that the portions of the Cheese Soup have went down from what was there a couple of years ago? Can anyone else confim this? I think I read it on another website, but I'm not sure.

Not really recent as I am not sure when a change was made, but over Thanksgiving week 2007, we had 3 non buffet dinners. Our order of enjoyment is as follows: 1) The Brown Derby, 2) Shutters, 3) Le Cellier. Steaks were average at best and they messed up my kids order not once, not twice, but three times. "We said NO GRAVY!!!"

Soup was good though :slurp:

They took filet off the menu at The Brown Derby  They replaced it (at the same price) with a strip steak. I only tried the strip steak because they ran out of salmon, but it was AWFUL!!!!

The last time I was at Le Cellier (March 2008) a waiter spilled an entire glass of iced tea on me. I was completely soaking wet. I sat through my entire meal shivering. When we were finished, the manager came over and apologized. He offered us a fast pass but we declined since we had only gone there for lunch. He minimized my discomfort and said "the waiter said it wasn't that bad." He finally gave us a 20% discount, but any other restaurant would have given us a free meal. I don't have any plans to go back there soon.

The filet is still available at the Brown Derby during dinner hours. The strip steak is $24 the filet is $32.

That was my thinking, which is why I wondered why it was so popular. Certainly people can go to a steakhouse near them which is just as good (granted, I live in New York so I can find restaurants that put anything at WDW to shame), so I was just wondering. I figured it had to do more with that than anything else. The first time I went to Disney World I looked at eating there as well because I am a steak kind of guy, but I really wanted to eat in the France Pavillion.

I was just there less than a week ago. Strip steak was on the menu for dinner for $32.00. Filet wasn't on the menu at all :(

oh no! :( That was one of my favorite meals on property. The menu had just been updated the day before we last went (late Feb.). I didn't think it would change so drastically so soon. :(

I won't say it's not good but I do think it is a bit overrated. I don't think Le Cellier is so hard to get into solely because of quality. It is hard to get in there because it is the smallest table service restaurant in the World Showcase. The simply don't have the capacity so they fill up quickly.

It seems around September/October timeframe there was a MAJOR rework of many menus in Epcot and around the World. The number of entrees and appetizers has been reduced by about 25%. I guess it is in an effort to simplify the demands on the kitchen and stocking. I've lost favorite menu items from a number of locations....:(

We have the now Filet-less :( Brown Derby menu up on the menus section:

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=54931

We have kept the older menu from February for archival purposes. There are quite a few changes and an almost across the board price increase for the few items remaining from the previous menu.

Well Brown Derby wasn't worth a 2 credit per person for dinning before the Filet, now it is even worth less.

You will continue to see a decline in the quantity and quality of menu options as long as DDP is around.

You can't have both. Let's get rid of DDP!

It's easy to blame DDP, but some sort of DDP has been around since at least 2000. The food quality has only went down since 2005.

Disney inflate the price for non DDP to force people to go to the DDP. It's Disney taking advantage of the plan over years.

Any report of the actual status of the Le Cellier menu changes? Are there still maple and/or garlic fillets available on the menus? What about cream cheesed mashed potato substitutions?

I had the lunch (garlic) fillet with the mashed potatoes last year and it was SO GOOD. I'll be totally bummed if that's no longer available as I LOATHE mushrooms and would only want those 'tators again as the side.

what ifyou told the chef that you were alergic to mushrooms. I wonder if they would cook the fillet differently :drevil::lookaroun

You could probably get it without the sauce. That's what we did last year for lunch because Love is allergic to garlic and the lunch fillet had a garlic demi glace. They just left that off.
