I'm looking for advice from people who have ridden the various roller coasters at WDW. I am a little fearful of riding ROck n Roller Coaster and Expedition Everest for the first time as I HATE big drops and consequently don't ride roller coasters very often. I can handle Space Mountain (love it in fact) and Big Thunder, but cannot take the drop at Splash. Can anyone advise me as to whether they have severe drops, or if they are just faster (and inverted) versions of Space and Thunder?
Thanks

RockNRoller coaster is the only Disney coaster that loops - its in the dark so you don't really see them coming.

Everest is a combination of Big Thunder and Splash - its fast and has a big drop.

If you can pluck up courage to ride Splash (try shutting your eyes for the drop at the end) then you'll quite easily cope with Everest. As for RNR I think that one has to be a big decision (incidentally - my wife loves Big Thunder, Splash and Everest but won't go near RNR)

If you can`t do drops then I dare say yoy wouldn`t like RnRC. However, the big drop on Everest isn`t as stomach-leaving-behind as even the dips on Space; it is very fast but very smooth. The interior section of Everest can make some people feel nauseous

Like Splash Mountain it`s worth a try. On Splash the drop is over before you know it - just as you really pick up speed you are already levelling out, and you have one of Disneys best dark rides either side of the main drop

if you can do space mountain then i would say you can do any of the disney rollercoasters, as space is the most jarring uncomfortable of the rides and because its pitch black the most scary as you dont know where you are going or whats happening around you.splash is a great ride beautifully themed great fun and does prepare you for the drop, the view from ride is great, do it, you wont regeret it and youlll be back in the queue in no time!

I personally don't like roller coasters at all and won't go on inverted (looped)coasters. Last year I did EE and liked it alot,it is very smooth and drops aren't as bad as SM .I wouldn't go on RnR for a million dreams.Splash is awesome and really shoudn't be missed, it is one of the must do's at WDW.

i love roller coasters and and ride both quite often. Rock n roller coaster is very fast and it does drop but not bad. You go through 3 cork screws but it is so fast you don't really have time to react like you do on splash mountain. Everest is a beautiful roller coaster. You do have a big drop of 80 feet but it don't feel that bad. A Disney roller coaster is more than just the thrill of the coaster its all about the atmosphere and the adventure. I think thats why I can ride then trip after trip and never tire of them

There are no significant drops on Rock N Roller Coaster. But you do go upside down three times.

The drop on Everest is longer (in length) at 80 feet than the one on Splash (at 50 feet), although you're traveling faster so the effect is not longer.

I would hesitate to ever contradict anything marni says, but I have a slightly different take on the 2 rides.

I wouldn't consider RNR to have any real drops, it's a launch coaster with fast turns and inversions. Maybe I'm thinking of "drop" differently (as in big hill).

Also, the backwards drop on Everest makes me suck on my large intestine.

But both rides are simply brilliant in my book.

rockin roller coaster and everest are two of the best roller coasters at WDW and definately shouldn't be missed!! you gotta ride them or else you'll be saying your "shoulda woulda coulda's"...and you'll be missing great rides! the worst part of RRC is how it shoots you off at first...the loops are NOTHING! the ride on everest to me is pretty bad, but it's over in a second and the rest of the ride is amazing! i also HATE big drops...they're the worst part of roller coasters, but if i didn't ride them because of the drops, i'd be missing out...and i pay good money to go to WDW to sit out because i don't like drops!!! ya know? GOOD LUCK!!! DO IT!! :)

Having never been on EE, I can't weigh in on it, but as for RnR, I'm a huge fan. Like previously mentioned, it's a different type of ride than Splash. There's no "huge" drop. It's more about the speed. Honestly, if you can handle Space Mountain, you should be able to ride RnR. Besides, the height is only 90'. Check the American Coaster Enthusiats specs here.

Hi,
I hope no one gets mad here, lol... but my experience as a coaster freak made me think I could take anything. Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain, TOT, Splash Mountain, LOVE LOVE LOVE them all... Rock N Roller Coaster, my favorite, my 6 year old sons favorite, totally great. The inversions are over before you know they are there and you're like "WOW!"
*possible spoiler ahead*
Expedition Everest, however, while being a fantastic coaster, has a long (IMO) portion of BACKWARDS, that made me nauseous to the point of not being able to eat 6 hours later, and had my son vomiting for the rest of the day.
Nothing has ever done us in like that before, except some bad food at the sci-fi theater once, and I'm not going to even get into that here...
Good luck!

looking at everyones responses it appears that each ride depends on the individual. im a huge roller coaster fanatic. it takes a lot to get me fazed by one. RnR is awesome and one of the smoothest rides you can go on. there are inversions but you barely notice them, until they are over, and no large drops. im suprised that you enjoy SM and BTMR but not splash, but obviously thats your thing. my fiance does not like big drops either. she HATES them. she refuses to go on ToT. but she LOVES splash mountain. she doesnt like space mtn because of the jerking around. shes also fine with BTMR. i somehow got her on RnR and she loved it! go figure... i also somehow got her on EE. now she rode it and it was fine but she said she will never go on it again. more than big drops, she does not like going backwards. she cant even ride backwards on the subway. even i understood this a little. after riding EE back to back, i started to get a little dizzy. that may also be due to the fact it was first thing in the morning and i dont think i had eaten anything.

anyway, the best way to know if you are ok with the ride is to just go on it. unless you have a health condition or easily vomit...

I would compare RnRC with Space and Thunder. No huge drops (look at the building, it just isn't that tall). So if you can handle inversions and the 0-60 in no time flat start (one of the best parts of the ride), you'll be OK. Plus there's a great soundtrack.

Everest, on the other hand, has the big drop. Not a 150-footer like you'll find on the headliners at Six Flags and Cedar Fair parks, but still a steep fast drop. It is a great ride, but if you fear drops to the point where you don't enjoy the ride because of the fear, you might be better off skipping it.

That said, if you are one who has the fear, but wishes you didn't, there is no better place to try to get over than Disney, because Disney rollercoasters, Everest included, aren't just about the thrills. There's a story, there's effects (when they're working), great scenery, etc. So you've got something else to concentrate on.

When I was a teenager I could ride ANY coaster without even a second thought or minute of sickness. As I got older, I lost some of my tolerance. Spinning is completely out of my ballpark now. There are only two rides I have ever ridden that I could never ride again - Primeval HURL and the teacups. Yuck-o! I got very sick on those two rides. That being said, I adore Rock'n'Roller Coaster and Everest. They don't bother me.
My husband won't do heights and drops; the front row of the Tower is out. However, he can handle Everest, Splash, and Aerosmith great. Everest is his favorite coaster.
Our family rule is ride everything at least once.

You have to think about it logically:

A thousand people get on the roller coaster.
A thousand people get off the roller coaster.

Every day.

Enjoy the scary parts.
Enjoy the ride.
Go for it.

I finally mastered the Tea Cups using great perserverance and courage and now I enjoy them as well as the roller coasters.
Tha't me now - Master of the Tea Cups. Yeah.
I wish you well.

Good luck.

Shucks :o

Yep; I shouldn`t have used the word drop for RnRC - more like G Force and stomach-leaving feelings. Of which there are several. The rush at launch though is amazing :D The dips on Space are larger and steeper, and Space is a far rougher ride than RnRC.

As for the RnRC track, look here http://www.wdwmagic.com/rnr_construc.htm

RnRC was my first ever launch coaster. Man, I really love that launch.

You're right, there's plenty of stomach-leaving on RnRC.

I'm like some of the others...as a kid nothing ever made me sick...well...except my first time going out sailing in the Atlantic on a 35 foot sailboat... It seems maybe childbirth did me in. Age coulda been a factor as was weight. I gained extreme amounts of weight with my babies and I suddenly was not able to ride the "big" rides like I used to. Spinning was totally out of the question. I've lost a lot of weight and focused on physical health which has helped me tremendously. I can ride M:S orange once (not twice). I can EE, Space Mtn, & RnRC exactly 3 times in a row before I'm not okay. I can even do the teacups with the kids as long as they don't spin the stupid cup which I know stinks for them because they enjoy whipping it around as fast as possible (that's why I always offer to let them ride alone and only ride if they really want me to).

My family loves roller coasters. The hubby, younger son, and I will ride anything. My older son is a little more reserved but he's only ever backed out of really really big headliner hyper-coasters at Six Flags. Also, older son won't ride ToT with us but that's not because of the dropping. He's got a major issue with the dark and ToT is pitch black at times during the ride. I tried to give him little glow sticks so he'd have "control" over the dark but that didn't help. He wasn't convinced.

That said, I don't think RnRC has any significant drops where you get that falling or dropping sensation. Because of the launch everything whizes by so fast without that initial plunge to build momentum. Also, with the music and the scenery it's a totally enveloping sensory experience. I loooove it. I sing my little booty off and laugh the entire ride. I also think RnRC and EE are far smoother than Space Mtn. Space is really rough. That's the toughest one on the hubby and me. The hardest part of EE for me is the backwards stuff especially when you're in the mountain and the g's are strong. The drops to me are very short and small but then I've been on huuuge coasters that scared the bejeezus out of me that had drops that I was able to scream, suck in breath, and scream again 3 times during just 1 drop. LOL! EE seems like IASM compared to that sort of thing. LOL!

I wouldn't tell the OP to not do any of the coasters. My best suggestion is search YouTube for ride videos to see what you think you can handle. I like to try everything at least once because what-ifs make me insane. Not everyone is like that. When I think about it, when it comes to rides since I was 11 years old there has never been a time I pushed myself to go for it and regretted it afterward. Okay, well maybe the time I got off the Looping Starship at Six Flags choking my lunch back down I wasn't so thrilled but at least I gave it a shot. Right???

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I don't think either one is too bad, but I know my dad (who has a heart problem) couldn't go on either one. My first time on RnRC (now my favorite ride) it was so fast I didn't even know we had gone upside down. On EE the big drop is surprisingly not stomach lurching. I say go for it, but don't feel too pressured by us if you really don't want to. We're right behind you regardless. :)
