Ive encountered a few folks like that. While its annoying, Id say its a far cry from 'out of control'. Not being argumentative, just saying that it may be a slight overreaction to label it that way. I do agree there are a few folks who drink and get a little rowdy, but its not like you see it on a daily basis. I see it more often at a local restaurant or bar and far less at a Disney park.

Rowdiness has no place at WDW, If you want to get drunk and rowdy go to a place with sawdust and peanut shells on the floor where everyone else there has the same goal Biker or Cowboy bar should do just fine.

Not unless you start something. This entire thread stems from an incident that happened several years ago.

Look around next time your in Epcot. You would expect to see a scene from Green Street Hooligans after reading this thread, but alas, You will see families and young adults who are on vacation.

Dont be alarmed by sounds of song and merriment echoing from World Showcase, its only people enjoying themselves, not the bloods or crips beating in a new initiate to their Orlando chapter. Now break yo'self, fool...

Except on weekend evenings during the Spring and Fall pub crawl festivals. Do yourself a favor and be somewhere else those times.

during the Spring and Fall pub crawl festivals
They don't have "pub crawl festivals". Just like they always have, they offer food and alcohol. The only reason to avoid the park during those times is the immense popularity of those festival periods; especially on weekends, the park gets incredibly crowded. But, as many others have said, it isn't any more rowdy or unruly than at any other time.

Yea I can vouch for that. The last Boyz II Men show had like all these drunks singing along, which was fun, but sort of boorish.
For what it's worth, the worst scene I've ever experienced at EPCOT was the huge line outside the pavilion waiting for the Boyz II Men show when its cancellation was announced. I honestly thought a riot was going to break out.

If you want to avoid a crowd, then yes, avoid Epcot on weekend evenings during F&W.

Ford, you know I love ya, but I gotta disagree on this one. You make it seem dangerous to be there. Is it crowded? Yes. Can it get a bit loud with random people dancing in the walkways or groups of people occupying large areas? Yes. But it's not dangerous. I have no problem walking around with my young nephews or niece and the most I ever had to do is say, "excuse us" so we could get by.

Crowded and loud does not neccesarilly mean dangerous.

I had no idea they even cancelled a Boyz II Men show!

The ones running up to people and getting in their faces smelling of beer.
I've never had that happen at a Food & Wine Festival.

At Typhoon Lagoon? Absolutely. At Fantasmic? Absolutely. At the Dawa Bar at Animal Kingdom? Yep. Around the Germany pavilion, any time of the year, any time of day? All the time.

Give me a break.
EPCOT has had beer & wine since day one. The Food & Wine Fest isn't full of rowdy drunks. People aren't rampaging around like fratboys. EPCOT hasn't "fallen".

I'd hazard to say that Food & Wine aside, @marni1971 is quite right that there are a few ways Epcot has fallen. Not that it can't rise up again...

Specifically for Food & Wine, I can remember a time -- probably ten years ago or so -- when there were free "tasting" presentations during the festival. All you had to do was reserve a spot. I went to one such event on a Sunday afternoon at the Rose & Crown courtyard. Groups of four or five were seated at tables that had a bucket of five different beers in the center of the table -- the drill was to listen to the presenter discuss a particular brew then open a bottle and pour out a taste, then share the rest of the bottle with your table, then go on to the next brew, and so on.

Well, there was one gentleman at an adjacent table who had already had a few before the event started, figured he'd keep his buzz unimpeded, and decided to start drinking from the bucket in front of him as soon as he was seated. The presenter politely asked him to wait, he didn't... the request was made a second time, and promptly a security guard appeared to escort the gentleman out, which he was not appreciative of. The rest of us were, though!

That's the only time in many visits to F&W that I witnessed a really belligerent demonstration. Sure, folks overdoing it can be found most anywhere, but I personally don't think Epcot deserves the "drunkytown" moniker. Obviously the days of the free tastings have gone by the wayside... probably a good thing.

But, there's still many ways that Epcot could pick up its game in terms of... well, adding new attractions at a faster pace than every 8-10 years, for one thing... but that's another topic.

They absolutely still offer free tastings. At least, they did just last year, when I last attended.

The completely refurbished Test Track, which is (apart from the same ride track) essentially a new attraction, opened less than three years ago. The Seas opened seven years ago. The new Frozen ride opens in a year or so. Let's not go there.
