Mysterious Island, at Disney's Animal Kingdom

A rumored expansion at Animal Kingdom, adding a new "land" to the park.

Do a search for Tokyo DisneySea's Mysterious Island, and you'd get a good idea of what it might entail.

If this is to happen, it will probably be a multi year construction project especially if they want to make it look just like TDS. Personally, I would love to see at least JTTCOTE come over and maybe a ride based on From The Earth to the Moon or something unique for AK.

If this happens, DAK will probably become my favorite park. Right now its in third. That said, I'm not holding my breath. If it does happen I think we're at least 5 years away from it even getting officially started. I certainly hope I'm wrong.

Folks, PLEASE don't get your hopes up about this.

The hard and fast reality of MI is that the budget had virtually no ceiling. The OLC spared no expense. That, in and of itself, is a HUGE part of what makes MI so amazing. You can stand in the caldera for an hour and just take it all in and not get bored.

NO ONE on this board (I'm lookin' at you, jt04 ) can argue that if they built MI here it would be done with the same budget. That's not how TDO operates. OBVIOUSLY. MI got built the way it did for one main reason: Disney wasn't writing the check.

So. IF MI were to get built here at home, it would be on some sort of sliding scale. It would be something less than what currently exists at TDS. Like WDW's pirates vs. any other pirates in the world, for example. Or like TDL's Pooh vs. any other Pooh... Although that's not completely fair because TDL's wasn't the first one built, I don't think. But you get the point.

And a downsize in budget wouldn't just mean less detail in the rock work. It would mean less money devoted to the insides of attractions and possibly restaurants. Although a lot of the design work has already been paid for, so there would be money saved there. Just how much money would depend on how much they had to redesign for budget changes, etc.

The other main reason I don't think it'll happen is that with JTtCOtE, there would be 3 e-tickets in one park with similar endings: Encounter with large creature at the end with a narrow escape. I don't think they'd do that. But that's just complete conjecture on my part. Maybe they would.

I guess my point is this... I'd rather see them spend good money on a couple new stand alone attractions that highly impress than see them build MI as something less than the way it exists in TDS right now.

My thoughts exactly. I'd rather something new than a watered down MI.

Im guessing this is a 3x

Personally I HOPE this isnt what they're adding, it doesnt really fit the whole ANIMAL kingdom theme imo. There are WAY more options that make sense, i mean even beastly kingdom makes more sence then stealing TDS's journey and MK's old 20K leagues. Also that is FAR too few attractions imo for a land add. I think they need E-A tickets (ATLEAST a thrilling E, a smooth family attraction, and a kid based attraction). IMO before Nemo I thought that DINOLAND was the best land. It had a monster E ticket, a family wildmouse coaster, a kids ride, kids play area, and a show. What could be any better than that combination!!??

Yea, I agree. Short of a massive project to move the entire state of Florida to become one of the islands right off Japan, there is NO way we will ever get ANYTHING half as cool as Tokyo DisneySea.

That's the way this country operates I'm afraid.

As and when something similar to JTTCOTE and 20K is built at DAK don`t expect the same lavish show building; Orlandos is meant to only be seen from one angle. Also expect a staggered construction and opening period.

Wow, that is a fantastic site!

The level of detail, theming and scale of DisneySea is absolutely amazing.

I feel a call to the travel planner coming on....

It is ABSOLUTLY worth it if it's something you can afford, I can tell you that.

In thinking about it... I don't know if they would put a second mountain on the opposite side of the park from Everest, either... The two would be intended to be two very different looks. I don't know if they'd contrast well, or if they would conflict. Just thinking out loud.

It fits into the mythical creature aspect of the park very nicely.

Indeed and 20K is different from what is was at WDW. No cool exterior views really.

But the rides have Mermaids, Sea Serpents, Giant Squids, various kinds of aquatic life and Journey has a nice lava monster.

The seen from one angle bit sounds really lame though. But I have a feeling that one angle, like EE would be quite impressive.

I fear if it ever is built, it will get the Pooh treatment. (WDW spent $30 million or so, TDL spent $130+ million) We will just have a 4th rate, watered down version of what we could have had...
